About Poké Ball Rugs

The most natural round rug there is

A Poké Ball is already a circle, which makes a round Poké Ball rug one of the simplest and most satisfying character rugs you can buy: red on top, white on the bottom, a black band across the middle and a white button in the center. It's instantly recognized by every Pokémon fan, it works in a child's bedroom as well as a game room, and it doesn't need a character to say Pokémon. For a fan who wants something rarer, the purple Master Ball is the favorite alternative. Every Poké Ball rug is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

Choosing a size

DiameterWhere it works
2.6 ft (80 cm)Beside a bed, in front of a desk, a pet's spot by the window
3.3 to 3.9 ft (100 to 120 cm)Under a gaming chair, the center of a small bedroom
4.6 ft (140 cm)The middle of a child's room or a playroom
5.2 to 5.9 ft (160 to 180 cm)A large bedroom, a living room or under a round table

The 3.3 to 3.9 ft (100 to 120 cm) size works well under a gaming chair, where the ball sits neatly beneath the wheels.

As a rough rule, choose a rug about two feet smaller than the space you want to fill, so there's a border of floor around it. Under a desk, measure how far the chair rolls back and choose a diameter that covers it. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.

The classic Poké Ball

The original red-and-white ball has been the symbol of the series since Pokémon Red and Green in 1996. In the games and the anime, trainers throw one to catch a wild Pokémon, which shrinks inside and stays there until it's called out again. The design is often compared to the capsule toys sold from vending machines in Japan, and it's as recognizable as any logo in gaming. In red and white on a light floor, it's bright and cheerful; on a dark floor, the white half glows.

Every ball type

Over the generations, the games have added dozens of different balls, each with its own design and purpose:

  • Great Ball: blue on top with two red stripes, better at catching than a basic ball.
  • Ultra Ball: black on top with yellow markings, for tougher Pokémon.
  • Master Ball: purple with pink bumps and an M, which catches any Pokémon without fail. Most games give you only one.
  • Premier Ball: all white with a red band, given as a bonus for buying several balls at once.
  • Luxury, Dusk, Heal, Net and Dive Balls: black and gold, green and black, pink, blue netting and ocean blue.
  • Hisuian Poké Balls: wood-and-brass versions from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Any of them can be printed as a round rug. A pattern of many ball types scattered on white makes a fun rectangular rug for a collector's room.

The Master Ball

The Master Ball is the rarest and most precious ball in the series, the one players save for a legendary Pokémon. Its purple-and-pink design, with a bold M on top, is the most striking ball of all. A Master Ball rug is a sweet way to tell a child they're one of a kind, and a cheeky nod for an adult fan who still has their first one unused.

A Poké Ball bedroom

A Poké Ball rug is the easiest way to start a Pokémon bedroom, because it fits any color scheme built around red, white and black. Pair it with red or white bedding, a few Pokémon plush toys and a shelf of cards or games. For a softer look, put a Premier Ball, white with a red band, on a pale floor. For a bedside rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², the softest we make. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

Playrooms and kids' rooms

Children love a Poké Ball rug: it's bright, round and perfect for games. It can be a battle arena for toy figures, a target for beanbag throws or a "safe zone" in a game of tag. On a hard floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², so the rug stays put when kids run across it. Every rug goes in the washing machine, which matters after snacks, crafts and muddy shoes. Our kids play rugs have more ideas for active play.

Under a gaming chair

A round Poké Ball rug under a gaming or desk chair is a classic look: the chair sits right over the center button. Choose Standard, 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm), depending on how far your chair rolls. Its non-slip faux leather back stays put, and the short crushed velvet lets wheels roll freely. It's a perfect setup for a Pokémon tournament player or a streamer. See our gaming rugs for more setup ideas.

Poké Balls and Pokémon together

A Poké Ball pairs with any Pokémon. Many fans put a round Poké Ball rug in one part of the room and a character rug in another, or choose a design with a favorite Pokémon bursting out of an open ball in a flash of light. You'll find our Pikachu, Charizard, Gengar, Snorlax and Eevee pages for rooms built around one of them, and the full range on our Pokémon rugs page.

A Pokémon Center welcome

In the games, every Pokémon Center has the same comforting sight: a nurse at the counter and a healing machine that restores your team with a cheerful little tune. A Poké Ball rug at the entrance of a bedroom, or a 2×3 ft rug with a single ball by the front door, is a playful welcome in the same spirit. On a hallway floor, choose Standard so it doesn't slide.

Apricorns and handmade balls

In Pokémon Gold and Silver, a craftsman named Kurt makes special balls from Apricorns, colored fruit that grows on trees, and each color makes a different ball, such as the Moon Ball, the Love Ball and the Friend Ball. Fans who grew up in the Johto region remember them fondly. An Apricorn ball design, in soft, playful colors, is a charming, lesser-known choice for a collector.

Your pet, your starter

Plenty of pet owners joke that their cat or dog is their real starter Pokémon. An 2.6 or 3.3 ft (80 or 100 cm) Poké Ball rug by a sunny window, or under a pet bed, makes the joke official, and it's practical too: pet hair lifts off with a vacuum on a low setting, and the whole rug goes in the washing machine when it needs it. On a smooth floor, choose Standard so it stays put when your pet jumps on and off.

Colors and rooms

The classic ball's red, white and black is bold and graphic. On a pale floor with white furniture, it pops; on dark wood, the white half stands out. For a calmer room, a Premier Ball or a pastel Heal Ball is softer. For a darker, cooler setup, an Ultra Ball in black and yellow, or a Dusk Ball in green and black, looks sleek under RGB lighting.

Standard or Premium

Standard is best on hard floors, under chairs, in doorways and in busy playrooms, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best beside a bed or anywhere you sit on the floor. Both are printed the same way, so the red stays bright and the white stays clean-looking, and both go in the washing machine.

Your own design

If you want a Poké Ball with your child's name across the band, a team logo or a ball in your own colors, our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, as a round rug up to 5.9 ft (180 cm). Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.

Gifts

A Poké Ball rug is one of the easiest Pokémon gifts to get right: every fan recognizes it, it fits any room and it doesn't depend on a favorite character. It's a great birthday gift for a young trainer, a dorm gift for a student or a housewarming gift for an adult fan. If you aren't sure which ball to choose, the classic red and white is the safest; the Master Ball is the most special. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the red stays red, no Pokémon Center required.

A note on the design

Capsule toys and the Poké Ball

The Poké Ball's design echoes one of Japan's favorite childhood thrills: gashapon, capsule toy machines where you turn a dial and a round plastic ball rolls out with a surprise inside. That two-colored capsule, split down the middle with a hinge and a button, became the perfect shape for a world where every capture is a small surprise.

A rug of a Poké Ball rolling out of a capsule machine, or a wall of colorful capsules with one red-and-white ball among them, is a clever nod to that inspiration and a fun conversation piece for a game room.
