About Dandadan Rugs
Ghosts versus aliens
A high school girl who believes in ghosts but not aliens and a nerdy boy who believes in aliens but not ghosts make a bet to prove each other wrong. She goes to a famous UFO spot; he goes to a haunted tunnel. Both of them turn out to be right, and their lives explode into a nonstop, hilarious, frightening and surprisingly romantic battle against yokai, aliens and everything in between. Dandadan is one of the most wildly inventive anime of recent years. A Dandadan-inspired rug brings its chaos into a room: a flying saucer and its beam, a haunted tunnel, a glowing lucky cat, retro occult magazine covers or neon psychic aura. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.
Dandadan-inspired designs
| Design | The look | Best in |
|---|---|---|
| Flying saucer | A UFO beaming light over a sleepy town | Bedrooms, gaming setups |
| Haunted tunnel | A dark tunnel with glowing eyes inside | Hallways, Halloween |
| Lucky cat | A beckoning cat with a mischievous grin | Entryways, reading corners |
| Occult magazine | A retro cover full of UFOs and cryptids | Dorms, reading corners |
| Psychic aura | Glowing swirls of blue energy | Gaming setups, round rugs |
| Neon palette | Magenta, cyan and yellow blocks | Teen rooms, modern rooms |
The flying saucer suits a round rug, and the neon palette looks best under a gaming desk lit by LED strips.
The series
Dandadan is a manga by Yukinobu Tatsu, published on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ app since 2021, where it quickly became one of the platform's biggest hits. The studio Science SARU adapted it into an anime that premiered in 2024, followed by a second season in 2025, with an opening theme by the hip-hop duo Creepy Nuts that became a hit of its own. Momo Ayase, whose grandmother is a spirit medium, and Ken Takakura, an occult-obsessed classmate who gets the nickname Okarun, discover that ghosts and aliens are both real and both after them. Momo awakens psychic powers, Okarun gains a terrifying speed from a curse, and together they take on one bizarre threat after another, from a creepy old-lady ghost to bald aliens in suits.
Flying saucers
The aliens arrive in classic style, with a glowing saucer and a beam of light. A rug of a flying saucer hovering over a sleepy town at night, its tractor beam lighting up the street below, is a fun, retro sci-fi design for a bedroom or a gaming setup. For more, see our space rugs.
The haunted tunnel
The boy's half of the bet takes him to a tunnel that's said to be haunted, and it is. A rug of a dark, mossy tunnel mouth with a pair of glowing eyes deep inside is a creepy, cinematic design for a hallway or a Halloween display. On a custom runner up to 10 ft long, the tunnel stretches the length of the hall. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by. For more spooky designs, see our horror rugs.
The lucky cat
A powerful, cranky spirit ends up stuck inside a lucky cat figurine, the beckoning maneki-neko found in shops all over Japan, and becomes an unlikely ally. A rug of a white lucky cat with one paw raised and a mischievous, glowing grin is a funny, eye-catching design for an entryway or a reading corner, and a nice nod to Japanese folk tradition for anyone. For more, see our cat rugs. Keep entry rugs just inside the door, out of the weather.
Maneki-neko
The lucky cat is a real Japanese charm: a cat figure with one paw raised in a beckoning wave, believed to invite good luck and customers inside. Tradition says a raised left paw welcomes people, while a raised right paw invites money, and the figures come in many colors with different meanings. Dandadan gives that cheerful charm a wonderfully weird twist.
Occult magazines
The boy reads occult magazines full of UFO sightings, cryptids and conspiracy theories. A rug designed like a retro occult magazine cover, with bold headlines of your own invention, blurry saucers and mysterious creatures, is a fun design for a dorm or a reading corner. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; real magazine covers and logos belong to their owners.
Psychic aura
The heroine's psychic power appears as glowing, swirling blue energy that can grab, lift and throw anything. A rug of swirling neon-blue aura on black, glowing outward from the center, is a dramatic design for a gaming setup or a round rug. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. For more, see our psychedelic rugs.
A neon palette
The anime is famous for its vivid colors, with bursts of hot magenta, electric cyan and bright yellow during its biggest moments. A rug of bold neon color blocks with comic-style speed lines is a high-energy design for a teen's room or a modern living room, recognizable only to fans. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.
Yokai and urban legends
The series draws on yokai, Japan's folklore spirits and monsters, and on modern urban legends, the creepy stories kids whisper about at school. Many have long histories in Japanese storytelling, from shape-shifting animals to haunted places. A rug with a cast of cute, spooky folklore creatures of our own design is a fun piece for a Halloween party or a curious reader. For more, see our Halloween rugs.
Speed
When the boy taps into his cursed power, he moves at terrifying speed, leaving streaks of light behind him. A rug of speed lines streaking across dark asphalt, with bright headlights in the distance, is a dynamic design for a hallway or a gaming corner.
Romance and comedy
Beneath the monsters, Dandadan is a funny, sweet story about two awkward teenagers falling for each other. For couples, a pair of rugs, a UFO and a haunted tunnel, is a fun nod to the bet that started it all: one for the believer in aliens, one for the believer in ghosts.
For older teens and adults
Dandadan has intense horror, violence and plenty of crude, adult humor, so these designs suit older teens and adults. The UFO, the lucky cat and the neon palette are the most widely appealing.
Bedrooms and dorms
A flying saucer or lucky cat rug brings a playful, spooky mood to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Halloween
For Halloween, a haunted tunnel or folklore creature rug just inside the front door is a spooky welcome for trick-or-treaters, and it goes back into a closet until next year. Keep it indoors, out of the weather.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit playful, eclectic rooms: black furniture, neon signs, retro sci-fi posters, a shelf of figures and a lucky cat or two on the windowsill.
Colors
Dandadan-inspired designs look best in hot magenta, electric cyan and bright yellow on deep black, with a cold UFO green and the white of a lucky cat.

Gifts
A Dandadan-inspired rug makes a great gift for an anime fan who loves the weird and wonderful. The lucky cat is the funniest; the flying saucer is the most versatile.

Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the neon stays loud, wash after wash.
Turbo Granny, Acrobatic Silky and the Flatwoods Monster
Dandadan's enemies come straight from Japanese urban legends and American UFO lore. Turbo Granny is a speedy ghost from a famous highway legend, an old woman who races cars at impossible speeds, and after her defeat she ends up trapped inside a lucky cat figure, which is why that cat keeps appearing. Acrobatic Silky, a tall, long-haired spirit, gets one of the series' most moving backstories.
From the alien side come the Serpoians, strange gray visitors with alarming plans for Momo, and the Flatwoods Monster, a towering figure with a spade-shaped head. That one is based on a real legend: in 1952, residents of Flatwoods, West Virginia, reported seeing a tall, glowing creature after a bright object fell from the sky, and the town still celebrates its monster today.
Those creatures make wonderfully odd rugs. A tall Flatwoods Monster silhouette, glowing green against a night sky, is a funny, eerie design for a room full of UFO books. A lucky cat in gold with Turbo Granny's mischievous glint suits a bedroom shelf of figures. Momo and Okarun's world also includes Kinta's dream mecha, the Great Kinta, and Momo's grandmother Seiko, a spirit medium who runs a shrine, each a source of quieter designs.
Science SARU's anime adaptation began in 2024, with a second season in 2025, bringing a new wave of fans who love its mix of horror, romance and comedy. A rug with a saucer, a yokai and a neon palette captures all three at once.
Fans of the occult side of the series can pair these designs with shelves of UFO books, urban legend collections and a small lucky cat figure, building a corner that feels like Okarun's bedroom. A neon palette of pink, cyan and acid green keeps the room fun rather than spooky, and it works well in a dorm or a teen's room where friends gather to watch the latest episode.
