About JoJo Rugs
Truly bizarre
For nearly forty years, one family bloodline has battled vampires, ancient warriors and supernatural spirits across continents and centuries, striking impossible fashion-model poses while the air around them fills with menacing sound effects. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of the most original, influential and endlessly memed manga ever created. A JoJo-inspired rug brings that wild style into a room: rows of menacing katakana, a star-shaped birthmark, zippers and ladybugs, dramatic pose silhouettes or surreal, clashing pop colors. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.
JoJo-inspired designs
| Design | The look | Best in |
|---|---|---|
| Menacing katakana | Rows of bold purple sound-effect characters | Anime rooms, dorms |
| Star birthmark | A single star on a bold color | Bedrooms, round rugs |
| Zippers and ladybugs | Gold zippers and red ladybugs on a pattern | Teen rooms, studios |
| Pose silhouettes | Dramatic, twisting fashion-model poses | Studios, dance rooms |
| Surreal pop colors | Clashing pinks, greens and purples | Gaming setups, creative spaces |
| Italian streets | A sunny Naples alley with laundry lines | Living rooms, hallways |
Each part of the story has its own look, so a Golden Wind fan may want Italian streets while a Stardust Crusaders fan might choose the star birthmark.
The series
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is written and drawn by Hirohiko Araki and has been running since 1987, first in Weekly Shōnen Jump and later in Ultra Jump. It is divided into parts, each following a different member of the Joestar family, nicknamed JoJo, in a different era and place: Victorian England, 1930s America and Europe, a road trip from Japan to Egypt, a quiet Japanese town, the Italian underworld, a Florida prison, a horse race across America and beyond. From the third part on, characters fight with Stands, spirit-like manifestations of their willpower with strange powers, many named after bands and songs. The anime adaptation by David Production, which began in 2012, brought the series to a huge new audience.
Menacing
When something threatening is happening in the manga, the background fills with the katakana characters ゴゴゴ, a sound effect suggesting a low, ominous rumble. It has become one of the most famous visual jokes in anime. A rug of rows of bold purple menacing katakana on black or pale pink is a funny, instantly recognizable design for an anime room or a dorm.
The star birthmark
Members of the Joestar family share a star-shaped birthmark on the back of their necks, connecting them across generations. A single star on a bold color, or a round rug with a star at its center, is a simple, meaningful design for a fan, and a nice family symbol for siblings who share the series. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.
Zippers and ladybugs
The series is full of strange, specific motifs: one hero's power lets him put zippers on anything, and another wears golden ladybug brooches. A playful pattern of gold zippers and red ladybugs is a fun, fashionable design for a teen's room or a creative studio, and it simply looks cool and stylish to anyone else.
The poses
Araki's characters strike elaborate, twisting poses inspired by fashion photography and classical sculpture, and fans recreate them everywhere. A rug of dramatic pose silhouettes in black on a bright color is a funny, artistic design for a studio, a dance room or a dorm room. Araki's love of fashion and art is so well known that his work was exhibited at the Louvre in Paris.
Surreal color
The manga's covers and the anime's backgrounds often use bold, unexpected color, purple skies, green skin tones and hot pink shadows, changing from scene to scene. A rug of clashing pinks, greens and purples in a bold, abstract pattern captures that surreal energy for a gaming setup or a creative space. For more trippy color, see our psychedelic rugs.
Italian streets
One of the most beloved parts takes place in Naples and across Italy, among sunny alleys, cafés, laundry lines and ancient ruins. A sunny Naples alley rug is a warm, beautiful design for a living room or a hallway runner, lovely even to someone who has never read the manga. A custom runner up to 10 ft long fits most hallways.
Music and Stands
Many Stands are named after Western bands and songs, from classic rock to pop, and Araki is a huge music fan. A rug for a music room, with a record and a few menacing katakana, is a playful nod for fans who love both music and manga. For more, see our vinyl record rugs.
A family across generations
Because each part follows a new JoJo, the series is a saga of a family over more than a century. For families who share the series, a star-birthmark rug in the living room is a sweet, subtle nod to that idea of a shared legacy.
The ageless artist
Fans love to joke that Hirohiko Araki never seems to age, looking much the same in photos taken decades apart, which has become a running meme of its own. More seriously, his art style has evolved dramatically over the years, from muscular 1980s action heroes to slender, elegant figures, and each part looks distinct.
Fans who pose
At conventions around the world, fans in costume gather to recreate the series' famous poses in groups, sometimes dozens at once. A pose-silhouette rug makes a perfect spot to practice at home, and a fun backdrop for photos.
A road trip to Egypt
The third part, one of the most popular, is a long journey from Japan through Asia and the Middle East to Cairo. A vintage map rug tracing that route, with little landmarks along the way, is a clever design for a traveler's study. For real maps, see our world map rugs.
For older fans
JoJo has plenty of violence and bizarre, sometimes grotesque imagery, so these designs suit teens and adults best. The star, the Italian streets and the zippers and ladybugs are the gentlest choices.
Anime bedrooms and dorms
A menacing or star rug brings personality to an anime bedroom or a dorm. Pair it with bold bedding, a shelf of figures and a few framed prints of your own. On a hard floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², so the rug stays put. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Gaming setups
A surreal-color or menacing rug pairs perfectly with purple and pink RGB lighting. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.
Entryways
Just inside the front door, a small menacing rug is a hilarious, ominous welcome for fellow fans. Keep it indoors, out of the weather, and choose Standard for its grip on tile and wood.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit bold, fashion-forward rooms: a velvet chair in a strong color, a full-length mirror for practicing poses, a shelf of figures and a few art books. Don't be afraid to clash colors; the series certainly never is.
Colors
JoJo-inspired designs look best in bold, surreal palettes: purple, hot pink, lime green and gold, with black for menacing katakana and warm Mediterranean tones for Italian scenes.

Gifts
A JoJo-inspired rug makes a great gift for a manga fan. A menacing rug is the funniest; the Italian streets are the most beautiful and the easiest to live with.

Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the colors stay bizarre, bold and bright, wash after wash.
Part by part
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is told in parts, each with a new JoJo and a new setting. Phantom Blood begins in Victorian England with Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando. Battle Tendency jumps to the late 1930s with Joseph Joestar's adventures across New York, Mexico and Italy. Stardust Crusaders, set in the 1980s, follows Jotaro Kujo from Japan to Egypt and introduced the Stands that define the series.
Diamond Is Unbreakable moves to the quiet Japanese town of Morioh in 1999, Golden Wind follows Giorno Giovanna through the Italian mafia in 2001, and Stone Ocean puts Jolyne Cujoh in a Florida prison in 2011. Steel Ball Run begins a new universe with an 1890 horse race across America, JoJolion returns to a reimagined Morioh, and The JOJOLands takes the story to Hawaii.
Each part offers its own palette and motifs. Phantom Blood's gothic mansion and stone masks suit a dark study. Stardust Crusaders' desert road to Egypt makes a sandy, adventurous rug for a hallway. Morioh's small-town streets in pastel colors feel cozy in a bedroom, Golden Wind's ladybugs and Italian streets bring style to a living room, and Steel Ball Run's horses racing across the American West are a striking design for a game room.
Fans often have a favorite part and a favorite JoJo, so a rug built around one part, its setting, symbols and colors, feels more personal than a general design. Pair it with a shelf of volumes from that part and a few poses for photos, and the room becomes a tribute to one chapter of a family saga that has run since 1987.
Fans who love a particular Stand often add a nod to it too, a small symbol in the corner of the rug or a pattern drawn from its abilities, so the design says exactly which part and which JoJo they love most. It's a fun way to personalize a room around a series with so many distinct chapters and so many loyal fans.
