About Kill la Kill Rugs
Loud, red and impossible to ignore
A transfer student arrives at a school ruled by a terrifying student council, carrying half of a giant red pair of scissors and looking for the person who killed her father. Her secret weapon is a living school uniform that gives her incredible power. Kill la Kill is one of the loudest, fastest and most stylish anime ever made, packed with huge title cards, outrageous fights and nonstop energy. A Kill la Kill-inspired rug brings that bold style into a room: a giant red scissor blade, glowing red threads, bold red-and-white typography or a sailor-collar stripe pattern. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.
Kill la Kill-inspired designs
| Design | The look | Best in |

The scissor blade is the boldest design, and red, black and white is the easiest palette to fit into a modern room.
The series
Kill la Kill was the first television series made by Studio Trigger, the studio founded by staff from Gainax, and it aired in 2013 and 2014, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima, the team behind Gurren Lagann. Ryuko Matoi enrolls at Honnōji Academy, a mountaintop school ruled by its fearsome student council president, where students wear special uniforms that grant superhuman powers based on their rank. Ryuko's own living sailor uniform makes her a match for anyone, and the story escalates into a battle over the fate of the world, with clothing itself as the enemy.
The scissor blade
The heroine fights with a giant red blade shaped like one half of a pair of scissors, searching for whoever holds the other half. A rug of a giant red scissor blade on black is a striking, graphic design for a gaming setup, a dorm or a teen's room. As a shaped rug cut to the blade's outline, it's even bolder. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm).
Red threads
The series' mysterious enemy is made of glowing red fibers woven into everything people wear. A rug of tangled, glowing red threads on black is a dramatic, abstract design for a bedroom, a studio or a dorm, and it reads as a bold, modern abstract pattern to anyone else.
Bold title cards
The anime is famous for its enormous title cards: giant red-and-white characters slamming across the screen to introduce characters and moments. A rug with your own words, a name, a motto or a room title, set in huge, bold red-and-white lettering, is a fun, graphic custom design for a dorm or a studio. Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′.
Sailor collars
The series is built around school uniforms, especially the classic Japanese sailor uniform with its navy collar and white stripes. A rug of navy and white sailor-collar stripes is a simple, clean design for a bedroom or a minimalist room, and a subtle nod for longtime fans. For more seaside stripes, see our coastal rugs.
The mountain academy
The school towers over the town from the top of a mountain, a giant, fortress-like building under a dramatic sky. A rug of a towering academy on a peak beneath a red sky is a cinematic design for a home theater or a hallway runner. A custom runner up to 10 ft long fits most hallways. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by.
Red, black and white
The series' palette is strong and simple: red, black and white. A rug in bold blocks of those three colors is a powerful, modern design for a gaming setup or a living room, recognizable only to true fans. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft. For more, see our gaming rugs.
School uniforms in Japan
The sailor-style uniform, with its wide collar and neckerchief, was adopted by Japanese girls' schools in the 1920s, inspired by European naval uniforms, and it's still an icon of Japanese school life today. The series exaggerates that idea wildly, turning uniforms into armor and rank into power.
A school with a class system
At the academy, students are ranked from no-star to three-star, and their rank decides everything, from their uniform's power to where their family can live. A rug with a row of stars, one, two and three, in bold red and black is a funny, graphic nod to that system.
Speed and style
The animation is famous for its frantic pacing, smash cuts and explosive visual gags, influenced by classic Japanese action films and manga. Even its still frames look like posters, which is why its bold graphic style translates so well onto a rug.
Fashion and fabric
The story is, at heart, about clothing: what we wear, how it shapes us and who controls it. That makes a Kill la Kill-inspired rug a fun choice for a fashion student's room or a sewing studio, with a red-thread or sailor-stripe design under the cutting table. Our office and studio rugs page has more setups.
Studio Trigger
The studio went on to make Little Witch Academia, Promare and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, carrying the same explosive, colorful style. For those series' cousins, see our Gurren Lagann and Cyberpunk Edgerunners rugs.
Best friends
The heroine's best friend is a chaotic, endlessly loyal girl who bursts into enthusiastic speeches at the worst possible moments. For best friends or sisters, a pair of rugs, a red scissor blade and a cheerful sailor stripe, is a fun nod to that friendship.
For older teens and adults
The series is intense and includes a lot of fan service and violence, so these designs suit older teens and adults. The sailor stripes, the bold type and the red-black-white palette are the most subtle choices.
Cosplay and photo backdrops
For cosplayers, a red-thread or bold-type rug is a dramatic backdrop for photos at home, especially paired with a plain black wall. A custom title-card rug with your cosplay character's name makes the shot even more fun.
Bedrooms and dorms
A red-thread or bold-type rug brings strong personality to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Round rugs
A round rug with glowing red threads spiraling inward, or a ring of bold title letters around the edge, is a striking, bold shape for a gaming corner or a dorm. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.
Entryways
Just inside the front door, a small bold-type rug with a fun welcome message of your own is a confident, fun first impression for guests. Keep it indoors, out of the weather, and choose Standard for its grip on tile and wood.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit bold, high-contrast rooms: black and white furniture, red accents, a few framed prints of your own and dramatic lighting. A single red chair, cushion or lamp ties everything together nicely.
Colors
Kill la Kill-inspired designs look best in bright red, deep black and crisp white, with navy for sailor-collar stripes.

Gifts
A Kill la Kill-inspired rug makes a bold gift for an anime fan or a fashion lover. The scissor blade is the most iconic; the bold title type is the most personal and fun.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use for custom designs; official character art and stills belong to their owners. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the red stays loud and bright, wash after wash.
Goku Uniforms and the Elite Four
At Honnouji Academy, power is stitched into clothing. Students wear Goku Uniforms ranked by stars: one-star uniforms give ordinary club members a boost, two-star uniforms go to club captains, and three-star uniforms belong to Satsuki Kiryuin's Elite Four, the academy's terrifying inner circle. Ira Gamagori, the giant disciplinary chief, Nonon Jakuzure, the music club's conductor, Houka Inumuta, the information strategist, and Uzu Sanageyama, the swordsman, each fight with a uniform built around their role.
At the top stands Satsuki herself, wearing Junketsu, a white Kamui, while Ryuko Matoi fights in Senketsu, her talking sailor uniform with a single eye on the collar. Ryuko's best friend Mako Mankanshoku interrupts the most dramatic moments with her famous, nonsensical speeches, often under a spotlight and a burst of color.
Those details make bold, graphic rugs. A row of star badges, one, two and three stars, in gold on black, is a clever symbol for any fan. A set of four emblems in the Elite Four's colors, Gamagori's disciplinary purple, Jakuzure's pink, Inumuta's blue and Sanageyama's green, brings the whole council into a room. A single red eye on a navy sailor collar is pure Senketsu, minimal and instantly recognizable.
Studio Trigger's series aired in 2013 and 2014, and its loud, fast style still feels fresh. Pair these designs with red, black and white elsewhere in the room, a bold poster, a striped pillow, and the space captures the show's over-the-top energy without a single scissor blade.
For cosplayers, a star-rank rug also makes a great photo backdrop for Honnouji Academy uniforms, since its bold colors read clearly on camera. Pair it with a bright spotlight and strike a pose worthy of the Elite Four.
Gold stars on black also read clearly in photos, so the rug doubles as a backdrop for figure displays.
