About Soul Eater Rugs

A school for the Grim Reaper's students

In a spiky desert city, the Grim Reaper himself runs an academy where students train in pairs: one wields, the other turns into a weapon. Their goal is to collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, turning the weapon into a legendary Death Scythe. Under a moon that grins down with a mouth full of teeth, they fight monsters, madness and each other, while trying to pass their classes. Soul Eater is a stylish, spooky and very funny anime with one of the most distinctive looks in the genre. A Soul Eater-inspired rug brings that gothic fun into a room: a grinning moon, playful skulls, perfect symmetry, a giant scythe, a zigzag floor or piano keys. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The series

Soul Eater is a manga by Atsushi Ōkubo, serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan from 2004 to 2013, and adapted by the studio Bones into a 51-episode anime in 2008 and 2009. At the Death Weapon Meister Academy in Death City, Nevada, Maka Albarn, a hardworking student, partners with Soul Evans, a laid-back boy who transforms into a scythe. Their classmates include a loud, show-off ninja and his gentle partner, and the son of the Grim Reaper himself, who fights with twin pistols and is obsessed with symmetry. As a powerful witch threatens to spread madness across the world, the students face lessons that are much darker than homework.

The grinning moon

In Death City, the sun laughs and the moon grins, a huge, toothy crescent leering over the rooftops. A rug of our own crescent moon with a wide, mischievous grin on a deep purple night sky is a fun, spooky design for a bedroom or a Halloween display, and a perfect shape for a round rug. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. For more night skies, see our celestial rugs.

The laughing sun

The sun over Death City doesn't just shine; it laughs out loud. A rug of our own laughing sun, bright yellow with a wide grin against a red sky, is a cheerful match for the grinning moon, and the two together make a perfect pair for a room that's half day, half night.

Skulls and candles

The academy is decorated with giant skulls, spikes and candles, a look that's more Halloween party than horror movie. A rug of playful cartoon skulls topped with dripping candles, in black, white and orange, is a fun, gothic design for an entryway, a teen's room or a Halloween display. Just inside the front door, keep it indoors, out of the weather. For more, see our Halloween rugs.

Perfect symmetry

The Grim Reaper's son is obsessed with symmetry, to the point of breaking down if a painting hangs crooked, and he hates the three white stripes that circle only one side of his hair. A rug with a pattern perfectly identical on its left and right halves, in black and white, is a clever, elegant design for a living room or a minimalist room. For more, see our geometric rugs.

The scythe

The heroine's partner transforms into a huge scythe with a jagged red-and-black blade. A rug of a giant scythe, shaped or printed on dark gray, is a bold design for a teen's room or a gaming setup. As a shaped rug cut to the blade's curve, it's even more dramatic. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm).

The zigzag room

Inside the scythe's soul is a strange room with red curtains, a black-and-white zigzag floor and a piano, a nod to a famous room in a classic American TV mystery. A rug of red curtains framing a zigzag floor is a striking, surreal design for a music room or a home theater. For the original inspiration, see our Twin Peaks rugs, and for more patterns, our checkered rugs.

Piano keys

The laid-back scythe is secretly a gifted pianist, playing moody, jazzy music in that dark room. A rug of black and white piano keys in dim, dramatic light is a sleek design for a music corner or a study. For more, see our piano rugs.

Death City

The city rises from the Nevada desert, a tangle of spiky towers, crooked houses and giant skulls under that grinning moon. A rug of a spiky, Tim Burton-style skyline against an orange desert sunset is a moody, cinematic design for a hallway runner, up to 10 ft long. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by.

The Grim Reaper as headmaster

The academy's headmaster is the Grim Reaper himself, a cheerful, goofy figure in a cartoon skull mask who greets students with silly voices. That mix of death and comedy defines the series: it takes spooky things and makes them fun. A cheerful skull rug in a kid's room or a teen's room captures that same playful spirit.

Soul resonance

When partners synchronize their souls, they become stronger together. For best friends, siblings or partners, a pair of rugs, a grinning moon and a laughing sun, is a fun nod to two souls in sync.

Madness

The series' villains spread madness, shown with swirling black lines, cracked smiles and wild colors. A rug of swirling black and red ink, abstract and a little unsettling, is a dramatic design for a gothic bedroom or a gaming setup. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.

For teens and adults

Soul Eater has monsters, fights, some fan service and creepy villains, so it suits teens and adults. The grinning moon, the skulls with candles and the piano keys are the most lighthearted designs.

Gothic bedrooms

A grinning moon or skull rug brings playful, gothic character to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts, and our gothic rugs page has more dark designs.

Halloween all year

For fans who love Halloween every day, a Soul Eater-inspired rug is spooky enough for October and cute enough for the rest of the year. It goes straight in the washing machine after a party.

Pairing with furniture

These rugs suit playful, gothic rooms: black furniture, candles, a few skull ornaments, purple and orange lights and curtains in deep red.

Colors

Soul Eater-inspired designs look best in black and white, deep red and purple, with pumpkin orange and the pale yellow of a grinning moon.

Gifts

A Soul Eater-inspired rug makes a great gift for a gothic soul, a Halloween lover or an anime fan. The grinning moon is the most iconic; the symmetry rug is the cleverest.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the moon keeps grinning, wash after wash.

Meisters and their weapons

At the Death Weapon Meister Academy, students work in pairs: a meister who fights and a weapon who can transform into one. Maka Albarn and her partner Soul Eater, who becomes a scythe, aim to collect 99 kishin eggs and one witch's soul to turn Soul into a Death Scythe, a weapon worthy of Lord Death himself. Black☆Star, the loud, self-proclaimed future god, partners with Tsubaki, a calm ninja whose forms include a chain scythe, and Death the Kid, Lord Death's obsessive son, fights with Liz and Patty Thompson, sisters who become twin pistols.

Other characters bring darker colors to the story. Crona, a nervous, troubled student, carries Ragnarok, a black-blooded weapon who lives inside their body. Medusa, the snake witch, schemes behind the scenes, and Excalibur, a legendary holy sword, turns out to be so annoying that almost no one can stand to wield him.

Those pairs make clever rugs. A red-and-black scythe crossing a pale moon is Maka and Soul, a classic design for a teen's room. A pair of perfectly symmetrical pistols, aligned to the millimeter, is a funny tribute to Kid's obsession with symmetry. A blue star with a spiky edge recalls Black☆Star's ego, and a small white sword with a top hat is an inside joke for anyone who has heard Excalibur's endless stories.

Atsushi Ōkubo's manga ran from 2004 to 2013, and Bones' anime adaptation aired from 2008 to 2009. Fans still love its gothic, playful style, which suits rooms in black, white and red, with skull candles, crescent moons and just a touch of madness.

For fans who love the series' gothic, playful style, these designs pair well with candle-shaped lights, skull bookends and a few Halloween decorations kept up all year. They suit a teen's bedroom or a dorm, especially one shared with a friend who has a favorite meister of their own.
