About Overlord Rugs

The last player in the game, and now its ruler

When a hugely popular online fantasy game shuts down for good, one loyal player stays logged in until the final second at midnight, sitting on his guild's throne as his character: a skeletal undead sorcerer king. But the servers don't go dark. Instead, he wakes up in a new world, still in his skeleton body, with his guild's fortress and its powerful servants now alive and completely devoted to him. Inside, he's an ordinary office worker trying not to panic; outside, he plays the terrifying overlord everyone expects. Overlord is a dark, funny fantasy anime and one of the defining isekai series. An Overlord-inspired rug brings its look into a room: a dark throne room, a dungeon map, a skeletal crown and red orb, an inventory grid, a midnight countdown or royal robes. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The series

Overlord began as a web novel by Kugane Maruyama and became a light novel series illustrated by so-bin, published by Kadokawa's Enterbrain since 2012. The studio Madhouse adapted it into an anime that premiered in 2015, with three more seasons through 2022 and a film in 2024. Satoru Suzuki, known in the game as Momonga, is transported into another world as his undead character. He renames himself Ainz Ooal Gown, after his guild, and sets out to find whether any of his old friends came with him, while ruling the Great Tomb of Nazarick, an enormous dungeon fortress, and its loyal, often frightening guardians, whose misunderstandings of his orders drive much of the story.

The throne room

The fortress's grand throne room, with towering pillars, rows of banners and a dark throne at the end, is where the story begins. A rug of a dark throne room in deep purple, black and gold, seen from the entrance, is a dramatic design for a game room or a man cave, and as a long runner up to 10 ft, it turns a hallway into the path to the throne. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by. For more, see our man cave rugs.

The dungeon map

The Great Tomb is a vast dungeon with many floors, each guarded by a powerful servant, from icy halls to a jungle and a lava zone. A top-down map of a sprawling tomb dungeon, with rooms, corridors, traps and treasure marked in a classic fantasy style, is a perfect design for a tabletop gaming room or a study. For more, see our Dungeons and Dragons rugs.

The skeleton king

The hero is a skeleton in rich robes, with a glowing red orb set in his ribcage and points of red light for eyes. A rug of a crowned skull and a glowing red orb on black is a bold, dark design for a gaming setup or a Halloween display, and a fun skull rug for anyone who loves gothic style. For more, see our gothic rugs.

The inventory grid

The hero still thinks like a gamer, managing his items, spells and stats as if he were playing. A rug designed like a fantasy RPG inventory screen, a grid of slots filled with potions, swords, scrolls and rings of our own design, is a clever, playful design for a gaming setup or a dorm. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.

The midnight countdown

The whole story begins as the game's clock counts down to midnight and the end of the servers. A round rug of a glowing clock face, or a digital display ticking from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00, is a clever nod for fans and a fun piece for any gamer who has stayed up for a game's last day. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.

Royal robes

The overlord's robes are deep purple and black, trimmed in gold. A rug of flowing purple and gold fabric, folded and draped like a royal cloak, is a rich, luxurious design for a bedroom or a living room, and it reads as an elegant abstract to anyone else. For a soft, plush finish, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m².

Isekai

Isekai, Japanese for another world, is a hugely popular genre of anime and light novels in which someone from our world is transported to, or reborn in, a fantasy world. Overlord is one of its best-known examples, and it's often praised for flipping the formula: its hero isn't a brave young adventurer, but the most powerful villain in the room.

A salaryman in a skeleton's body

Much of the comedy comes from the gap between how the overlord looks and how he feels. His servants see a genius strategist; inside, he's a tired office worker improvising, worrying about his subordinates and pretending he planned everything. Many working adults find him surprisingly relatable. A throne rug for a home office is a funny nod for anyone who has to act confident at work.

The guardians

Each floor of the tomb has a guardian with a wildly different personality, from a devoted succubus and a vampire girl to a polite demon strategist, an insect warrior and twin dark elves. A rug of bold stripes in colors inspired by each guardian, one band per floor, is a subtle design only fans will decode.

Online games and guilds

The story starts with a fictional online game and a guild of friends who built their fortress together over many years. For anyone who has spent nights raiding with a guild, a rug with your own guild's name and colors, of your own design, is a fun tribute to those friendships. For more, see our World of Warcraft rugs.

For older teens and adults

Overlord is dark, with violence, cruelty and a hero whose side does terrible things, so it suits older teens and adults. The dungeon map, the inventory grid and the royal robes are the most widely appealing designs.

Bedrooms and dorms

A throne room or royal robe rug brings dark grandeur to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors, or Premium for a plush feel. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

Tabletop game nights

Under a gaming table, a dungeon map rug sets the mood for a long night of dice and campaigns, and it goes in the washing machine after the snacks. A 5×7 ft rug fits under most small game tables.

Halloween

For Halloween, a skeleton king rug is a dark, original welcome for trick-or-treaters. Just inside the front door, keep it indoors, out of the weather. For more, see our Halloween rugs.

Pairing with furniture

These rugs suit dark, regal rooms: black furniture, velvet chairs, candles, gold accents, banners or tapestries and a shelf of fantasy figures and dice.

Colors

Overlord-inspired designs look best in deep purple, black and gold, with bone white, glowing red and the bright colors of the guardians.

Other anime

For more isekai and game worlds, see our Re:Zero, Sword Art Online and Solo Leveling rugs, and all our anime and manga rugs.

Gifts

An Overlord-inspired rug makes a great gift for a gamer, a tabletop player or an anime fan. The midnight countdown is the cleverest; the throne room is the most dramatic.

Your own design

Want a dungeon map of your own campaign, a guild banner of your own or an inventory full of your favorite items? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape with our shaped rugs. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; official emblems and character art belong to their owners. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the gold stays regal, wash after wash.

The guild and its staff

Before the game world became real, Ainz Ooal Gown was a guild of 41 players, whom the NPCs of the Great Tomb of Nazarick now remember as the Supreme Beings. Momonga, its last remaining member, takes the guild's name as his own and carries its greatest treasure: the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, a guild weapon crowned with intertwined serpents, each holding a glowing jewel in its mouth.

That staff and the guild's history make striking rugs. A golden staff with its serpents and jewels, laid diagonally across deep purple, looks regal and menacing in a fan's study. A guild banner design with its emblem on black velvet, hung above a throne-room motif, captures the tomb's grandeur. A ring of 41 empty seats around a round table, one of the series' most poignant images, is a quiet design for fans who know how lonely Momonga's position really is.

The series also has a softer side, through the floor guardians' devotion and the little moments of everyday life in Nazarick. Designs that hint at the guardians, a pair of dark elf twins' colors, a vampire's crimson, a demon's formal suit, give fans a way to show their favorite without a portrait.

These designs suit bedrooms, dorms and game rooms decorated in deep purples, blacks and golds, with candlelight or a single dramatic lamp. Add a shelf of light novels and a figure of Ainz, and the room becomes your own corner of the Great Tomb.

It suits fans of the light novels and the anime alike.
