About Code Geass Rugs
A prince, a power and a game of chess for the world
In an alternate history, a vast empire has conquered Japan and stripped its people of their name. An exiled prince of that empire, hiding as an ordinary student in Tokyo, receives a strange power from a mysterious immortal girl: he can make anyone obey a single command. Behind a mask, he becomes the leader of a rebellion, playing the war like a chess match against his own family. Code Geass is a dramatic, twist-filled anime with giant robots, moral dilemmas and one of the most famous endings in anime. A Code Geass-inspired rug brings its look into a room: a chessboard with a black king, royal purple and gold, a glowing red eye, a dark cape, mecha blueprints or a pizza box. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The series
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is an original anime made by Sunrise, directed by Gorō Taniguchi and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi, with character designs by the manga group CLAMP. It aired in 2006 and 2007, followed by a second season, R2, in 2008, and later films. The Holy Britannian Empire has conquered Japan and renamed it Area 11. Lelouch, a brilliant exiled prince, gains the power of Geass and becomes Zero, a masked revolutionary leading a resistance army called the Black Knights. His greatest opponent is his best friend, a Japanese soldier fighting for the empire, and their clash shapes the fate of the world.
The black king
The hero is a chess genius who treats every battle like a game, and he believes a king must lead from the front. A rug of a classic black-and-white chessboard with a single black king standing at its center, the other pieces scattered, is a striking, elegant design for a study, a game room or anyone who loves strategy. For more, see our checkered rugs.
Chess and checkmate
Chess is about 1,500 years old, born in India and carried through Persia into the Arab world and Europe. The word checkmate comes from the Persian shāh māt, often translated as the king is helpless. A chessboard rug can be a real board too: printed with 64 squares large enough for oversized floor pieces, it turns a playroom into a giant game. A 5×7 ft rug or a custom square works well.
Royal purple and gold
The empire's palaces and uniforms are dripping with purple, gold and white. A rug of rich purple-and-gold damask, an ornate imperial pattern, is a luxurious design for a living room or a bedroom, and it reads as a classic royal rug to anyone who hasn't seen the show. For a soft, plush finish, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². For more, see our gothic rugs.
The red eye
When the hero uses his power, his eye glows red. A rug of a single glowing red eye on black, with light rippling outward like rings on water, is an intense, dramatic design for a gaming setup or a dorm. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.
The cape
As the masked rebel, the hero wears a sweeping black cape with a purple lining and makes speeches with dramatic gestures. A rug of a black cape swirling across the floor, lined in purple and gold, is a theatrical design for a teen's room or a cosplay corner.
Giant robots
Battles are fought with Knightmare Frames, agile humanoid robots that race on wheels and fire grappling hooks. A blueprint rug of a sleek fighting robot of our own design, drawn in white lines on deep blue, is a smart design for an office or a model-kit corner. For more mecha, see our Gundam and Evangelion rugs.
Pizza
The mysterious immortal girl who gives the hero his power has one obsession: pizza, which she orders constantly and hugs as if it were a treasure. A rug of an open pizza box with a hot, cheesy pizza inside is a funny, cheerful design for a kitchen or a game room, an inside joke for fans and a crowd-pleaser for everyone else. In a kitchen, choose Standard for its grip on tile. For more, see our kitchen rugs.
Round rugs
A round rug of a glowing red eye, a gold imperial medallion of our own design or a pizza seen from above is a bold shape for a gaming corner or a kitchen. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.
Hero or villain?
Part of the series' fame is that its hero is also a manipulator who will do almost anything to win. Fans still argue about whether his choices were right, and the ending is one of the most discussed in anime history. A chess rug is a perfect nod to a story where every move has a price.
Brothers and sisters
Everything the hero does is for his gentle younger sister, who uses a wheelchair, and her dream of a kinder world. For siblings sharing a room, a pair of rugs, a black king and a white queen, is a sweet, simple nod to that bond.
Best friends and rivals
The hero and his childhood best friend end up on opposite sides of the war. A chessboard rug with one black and one white king facing each other across the board is a fitting design for roommates or rivals.
For teens and adults
Code Geass has war, violence and dark moral choices, so it suits teens and adults. The chessboard, the damask and the pizza box are the most widely appealing designs.
Bedrooms and dorms
A damask or black king rug brings a regal, dramatic mood to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Studies and game rooms
For a study or a game room with a real chess table, a chessboard rug underneath ties the whole room together, and a darker design hides dust between cleanings. A 4×6 ft rug fits under most small tables with room for the chairs to slide back.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit dramatic, elegant rooms: dark wood, velvet chairs in purple or black, gold frames, a chess set on a side table and a few model robots on a shelf.
Colors
Code Geass-inspired designs look best in royal purple, gold and black, with crisp white, a glowing red and the cheerful colors of a pizza.

Gifts
A Code Geass-inspired rug makes a great gift for a chess player, a mecha fan or an anime fan. The black king is the most elegant; the pizza box is the funniest by far.

Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the royal purple stays rich, wash after wash.
Knightmare Frames and the mask
The giant robots of Code Geass, called Knightmare Frames, each carry a distinctive color scheme. Suzaku's Lancelot is white with gold trim and glowing green accents, elegant and knightly. Kallen's Guren is crimson with a silver, clawed right arm. Lelouch commands the black-and-gold Gawain and later the Shinkirō, while the Britannian army fields rows of purple Sutherlands.
Those palettes make striking rugs without a single face. A white-and-gold Lancelot schematic suits a bright study, a red Guren claw makes a bold design for a game room, and a black-and-gold blueprint of Lelouch's frame feels regal under a desk. A pattern of purple Sutherland silhouettes in formation gives a room the look of a war room map.
Then there's Zero's mask, black and sleek with violet accents, perhaps the most recognizable image in the series. On a round rug, it becomes a dramatic centerpiece for a fan's bedroom. And for a lighter touch, C.C.'s beloved yellow plush, Cheese-kun, is a funny wink to anyone who knows how much pizza she ordered.
Pair any of these with royal purple, black and gold elsewhere in the room, a velvet pillow, a chess set on the shelf, and the space feels like Lelouch's private quarters at Ashford Academy.
For collectors who build model kits of the Knightmare Frames, a schematic-style rug under the display shelf ties the collection together, as if the models were standing in a hangar. Choose a palette that matches your favorite frame, white and gold or crimson and silver, and the shelf and the floor tell the same story.
