About Sailor Moon Rugs
Fighting evil by moonlight
Sailor Moon began as a manga by Naoko Takeuchi in 1991, and the Toei anime that followed in 1992 became one of the most influential series ever made. Its heroine, Usagi Tsukino, is a clumsy, kind-hearted schoolgirl who cries easily, loves sweets and happens to be the reincarnated princess of a lost kingdom on the Moon. Together with her friends, the Sailor Guardians, she fights to protect love and friendship, in a sailor-collared uniform and a pair of famous pigtails.
Sailor Moon defined the magical-girl genre for the world, and for a whole generation in North America, it was the first anime they ever loved, known in the English dub as the Sailor Scouts. Its pastel colors, crescent moons, sparkling transformations and ribbon-wrapped weapons are still one of the most beloved aesthetics in anime. A Sailor Moon rug brings that softness and nostalgia into a room. Ours are printed into short velvet, so soft gradients, glittering stars and fine linework come out beautifully, and they go in the washing machine.
The crescent moon
The single most important symbol in Sailor Moon is the crescent moon: on Usagi's forehead when her royal heritage awakens, on Luna's and Artemis's foreheads, on wands, tiaras and brooches. A golden crescent on a deep blue or soft pink ground is one of the simplest and most elegant Sailor Moon rugs, subtle enough for a shared room and instantly meaningful to anyone who grew up with the show.
Brooches and compacts
Every transformation in Sailor Moon starts with a brooch or compact, and they are some of the most beautiful objects in anime: the original star-shaped Transformation Brooch, the heart-shaped Crystal Star, the Cosmic Heart Compact and the Eternal Moon Article. Their round, jeweled designs are almost made for round rugs. A brooch rug in the middle of a bedroom floor is a lovely choice, and it looks like a gorgeous ornamental medallion to anyone who doesn't know the series.
The wands and staffs
Usagi's weapons changed with each season: the Moon Stick with its crescent tip, the Cutie Moon Rod, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod with its spiralling ribbon and heart, and the Eternal Tiare. Fans can often tell which season you grew up with by which wand you love most. A wand design works beautifully on a long rectangle or runner-shaped rug, beside the bed or along a vanity.
Luna and Artemis
Luna, the black cat with the crescent moon on her forehead, is Usagi's guardian, mentor and occasional scold, and Artemis, the white cat, is her counterpart. Diana, their daughter, completes the family. The cats make some of the sweetest Sailor Moon designs, especially for people who love cats as much as anime. A Luna silhouette on a round rug is graceful and simple, and it suits a living room or bedroom perfectly. Our cat rugs have more feline designs if you're building a whole cat-themed space.
The Sailor Guardians and their colors
Each Guardian has her own planet, power and color, which makes Sailor Moon a wonderful guide for choosing a rug that fits a room:
| Guardian | Planet and power | Color |
|---|---|---|
| Sailor Moon (Usagi) | The Moon, love and justice | Navy, red and white, pastel pink |
| Sailor Mercury (Ami) | Water and wisdom | Light blue |
| Sailor Mars (Rei) | Fire and spirit | Red and purple |
| Sailor Jupiter (Makoto) | Thunder and strength | Green and pink |
| Sailor Venus (Minako) | Love and beauty | Orange and blue |
| Sailor Chibi Moon (Chibiusa) | The future Moon princess | Pink |
| The Outer Guardians | Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn | Navy, teal, garnet, violet |
A single Guardian's rug, in her color, is a sweet way to say which one you are; a group design celebrates the friendship at the heart of the series.
The Outer Guardians
The third season introduced Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, Haruka and Michiru, along with Sailor Pluto, guardian of time, and Sailor Saturn, the quiet Guardian of destruction and rebirth. Many fans consider them the most stylish characters in the series, and their deeper colors, navy, teal, garnet and violet, make for more grown-up, elegant rugs that suit a modern bedroom or living room.
Tuxedo Mask and Princess Serenity
Every moonie remembers a red rose landing at Usagi's feet. Tuxedo Mask, Mamoru Chiba, in his top hat, cape and mask, and the romance between Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion run through the whole story. A rose-and-moon design, or a portrait of Serenity in her white gown, is the most romantic Sailor Moon rug there is, a natural choice for a couple's bedroom or a gift for a partner who still loves the series.
Usagi's everyday Tokyo
Between battles, Sailor Moon is a story about ordinary life in Tokyo's Azabu-Jūban district: Usagi oversleeping and running late for school, the Crown Game Center arcade where the girls hang out, Rei's Hikawa Shrine with its red torii gate, crepes, milkshakes and endless homework. Those everyday scenes have a warmth fans love. A Jūban street scene, the shrine at dusk or the girls together over sweets makes a gentle, slice-of-life Sailor Moon rug that feels more like a memory than a battle.
Sailor Stars and the Starlights
The fifth season, Sailor Stars, brought the Sailor Starlights, Seiya, Taiki and Yaten, a trio who were pop idols by day, and Princess Kakyuu, along with Chibi Chibi and the series' cosmic finale against Sailor Galaxia. Its starry, galactic look, gold stars on deep space, and its bittersweet tone have a passionate following, and the Cosmos films brought that arc to a new generation in 2023.
Thirty years of moonlight
Sailor Moon has never really gone away. Its stage musicals have run on and off since 1993, its thirtieth anniversary in 2022 brought exhibitions and new collaborations, and fashion and beauty brands keep returning to its compacts and wands. That longevity is why a Sailor Moon rug doesn't feel like a passing trend: it is decor tied to something people have loved for decades.
The Moon Kingdom and Crystal Tokyo
Behind Usagi's everyday life lies a story of past and future: the Silver Millennium, the ancient Moon Kingdom ruled by Queen Serenity, and Crystal Tokyo, the shining city of the future. Their palaces, crystal towers and silver light against a starry sky make for dreamy, celestial rugs that suit a bedroom beautifully. If you love that look, our celestial rugs share the same moons and stars.
90s anime and Crystal
Sailor Moon has two distinct looks. The 1990s anime has soft cel colors, chunky outlines and the slightly grainy warmth many fans grew up with. Sailor Moon Crystal, which began in 2014, and the Eternal and Cosmos films that followed, return closer to Takeuchi's original manga art: long limbs, delicate lines and luminous pastels. Choose the style that matches your memories. A 90s screencap aesthetic is pure nostalgia; Crystal's art is more refined and ornamental.
A dreamy bedroom
Sailor Moon is perfect for a soft, romantic bedroom. Pair a pastel rug with white or blush bedding, fairy lights, a crescent-moon lamp and a few framed prints. Premium velvet, 7 mm plush on a bamboo and cotton back, is the right level for a bedroom: softer and warmer under bare feet. A 2.6×3.9 ft rectangle beside the bed or a 3.9 to 4.6 ft (120 to 140 cm) round rug in the middle of the floor works in most rooms.
Vanities and dressing tables
Sailor Moon's compacts, brooches and wands make it a natural theme for a vanity corner. A small round rug in front of a dressing table, with a moon or brooch design, turns getting ready into a transformation sequence. If the vanity has a rolling stool, choose Standard, which has a non-slip faux leather back and 5 mm crushed velvet that lets the wheels roll freely.
Kawaii and magical-girl rooms
Sailor Moon is at the heart of a whole magical-girl and kawaii aesthetic: pastel pinks and lilacs, hearts, ribbons and stars. If that's your style, our cute and kawaii rugs, Cardcaptor Sakura rugs and Sanrio rugs sit naturally alongside.
Gifts for moonies
A Sailor Moon rug is a gift that lands with fans of every age, from teenagers discovering Crystal to adults who watched the original after school. If you don't know their favorite Guardian, a crescent moon, Luna or the Transformation Brooch is the safest choice, since every era of fan knows them. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Vacuum on a low setting each week, blot spills with cold water straight away and wash the rug on a gentle, cold cycle when it needs it; let it air dry flat. The design is printed into the fibers, so pastels stay soft and the crescent moon stays golden, wash after wash.
A note on the series
Transformation phrases
Every Sailor Guardian transforms with a phrase fans know by heart, starting with Usagi's Moon Prism Power, Make Up! A rug with your favorite transformation phrase in sparkling script around a crescent moon, in the guardian's own color, is a sweet design for a vanity corner and a little dose of courage every morning.
It also makes a sweet gift for a friend who grew up watching the 90s anime.

FAQ
Questions about Sailor Moon Rugs
Which Sailor Moon design is best for a round rug?
A transformation brooch or compact. They are round, jeweled designs to begin with, so they become a beautiful medallion on a 3.9 to 4.6 ft (120 to 140 cm) round rug.
Is there a subtle Sailor Moon rug for a shared room?
A golden crescent moon on blue or pink, or a Luna silhouette. Fans recognize them instantly; others see an elegant moon or cat design.
Do you cover the Outer Guardians?
Yes. Sailor Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn are part of this page, and their navy, teal, garnet and violet palettes suit grown-up rooms.
Can I get the 90s anime look instead of Crystal?
Yes. Choose the soft cel colors and chunky outlines of the 1990s anime for nostalgia, or Crystal's finer, manga-faithful art for a more ornamental look.
Which level suits a Sailor Moon bedroom?
Premium: 7 mm plush velvet on bamboo and cotton gives a soft, pastel bedroom with a crescent moon or Luna. On slippery hardwood, Standard grips better.
What rug works under a vanity stool on wheels?
Standard. Its non-slip faux leather back stays put and its 5 mm crushed velvet lets the stool roll freely.
How do I wash a Sailor Moon rug?
Gentle cold cycle, then dry it flat. The pastels stay soft and the crescent moon stays golden.
Is this official Sailor Moon merchandise?
No. Crescent moons, Luna and the Scouts' colors are designs inspired by the series; Padrift isn't affiliated with Naoko Takeuchi, Kodansha or Toei Animation.
