About My Melody Rugs
The sweetest rug in the room
A My Melody rug brings Sanrio's gentlest character into a room: her soft white face, framed by the pink hood with its little flower, on a pale pink round rug. That's the classic design. A rug cut to the outline of her hood, with its two long rabbit ears, is the most charming alternative, and fans of the original look love the vintage version, with the red hood she wore when she first appeared. Every design is printed into soft velvet that goes in the washing machine, which matters for a carpet in a child's room.
Who My Melody is
My Melody was created by Sanrio in 1975, the year after Hello Kitty, and she celebrated her fiftieth anniversary in 2025. She's a sweet, honest little rabbit who lives in the forest with her family, and her hood, made for her by her grandmother, is her signature. In her very first design, the hood was red, a nod to Little Red Riding Hood; over the years it became the soft pink fans know today. Her favorite thing to make with her mother is almond pound cake, and her birthday, according to Sanrio, is January 18.
In 2005, the anime Onegai My Melody gave her a rival, the mischievous Kuromi, and the two have been Sanrio's favorite pair of opposites ever since.
Her face on a round rug
My Melody's face, round and white inside the curve of her pink hood, is a natural fit for a round rug. On a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) rug, it becomes a soft center for a bedroom; on a 5.2 or 5.9 ft (160 or 180 cm) rug, it fills a larger room. On a pale pink background, the look is gentle and calm; on white, the pink hood stands out more. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
A hood-shaped rug
My Melody's silhouette, the rounded hood with two long, floppy ears and a little flower on one side, makes a beautiful shaped rug. Cut to her outline, it looks like she's peeking up from the floor. Shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A small one beside a bed is the first thing little feet touch in the morning; a large one is a soft spot for reading or playing.
The vintage red hood
For fans of Sanrio's history, the 1975 My Melody, in her red hood with a slightly simpler face, is a charming retro design. A vintage My Melody rug, red, white and a touch of green, has a storybook feel, like an illustration from an old fairy tale. It suits a vintage-styled room, a collector's display corner or anyone who loves Sanrio's early years.
Strawberries, flowers and pound cake
My Melody's world is full of sweet things: strawberries, little flowers, gingham and her beloved almond pound cake. A pattern rug built from them, small strawberries and flowers on a pale pink background with a tiny My Melody here and there, is a subtle, pretty design for a grown-up's bedroom, and it reads as a cottage-style print to guests. A pound-cake design, My Melody baking in a little apron, is a sweet rug for a kitchen corner. On a kitchen floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which grips the floor and goes in the washing machine after spills. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.
My Melody and Kuromi
Pink and sweet on one side, black and mischievous on the other: My Melody and Kuromi are the most popular Sanrio pair for a shared room. A split design, Melody's pink on one half and Kuromi's black and purple on the other, is a clever rug for sisters, roommates or a fan who loves both. See our Kuromi rugs for Kuromi on her own.
A rabbit for spring
My Melody is a rabbit, which makes her a natural fit for spring and Easter decor. A seasonal design, My Melody among tulips, daisies and pastel eggs, is a cheerful rug for a child's room or an entryway from March to May, and it doesn't look out of place the rest of the year. Pair it with soft greens and yellows for a fresh, garden-like room, and a basket of plush toys in the corner.
A My Melody bedroom
A My Melody bedroom is soft, pink and cozy at any age. Some ideas:
- A young child's room: a large round face rug in the middle of the floor, pink bedding and a few plush toys.
- A teen's room: a hood-shaped rug by the bed, with fairy lights, a white desk and a mirror.
- An adult's room: a strawberry-and-flower pattern rug, which feels more like cottage decor than a character rug.
- A shared room: a My Melody and Kuromi split rug, or two smaller rugs, one for each fan.
For the softest bedside carpet, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
A My Melody nursery
My Melody's soft pink and white make her one of the best Sanrio characters for a nursery. Pair a pale My Melody rug with white furniture, blush and cream bedding and a few floral touches, and the room stays calm and gentle. Premium's plush velvet is soft for tummy time and first crawls; once your child is walking on a smooth floor, Standard's non-slip back is the safer choice. Every rug goes in the washing machine, which, as any parent knows, will be needed. Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.
Dorms and desks
A My Melody rug is a quick way to make a dorm or a study corner feel like home. A round rug fits under a desk chair; a 3.3×5 ft rug fits between most dorm beds. Choose Standard there: its non-slip back lets chair wheels roll freely and stays put on hard floors. At the end of the year, it goes in the washing machine before it goes home.
Colors that go with My Melody
My Melody's colors are soft pink, white and a little yellow from the center of her flower. They go best with white or pale wood furniture, blush or cream bedding and warm, soft lighting. For contrast, add a little mint or lilac. If you'd like the pink-and-white look without a character, our cute rugs and bow rugs have pastel designs that pair beautifully.
My Melody and the Sanrio family
My Melody often shares a room with other Sanrio characters. She pairs especially well with Hello Kitty, her friend since the seventies, and with Cinnamoroll's soft sky blue for a pink-and-blue room. The whole family is on our Sanrio rugs page.
Standard or Premium
Standard is 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, best on tiles, wood or laminate, under chairs, in kitchens and anywhere children run, because it stays put. Premium is 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, softer and warmer underfoot, ideal by the bed or in a nursery where the floor is for sitting and playing. Both are printed the same way, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes
Her face suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug; 5.2 or 5.9 ft (160 or 180 cm) fills a larger bedroom. A hood-shaped rug works from 2.6×2.6 ft (80×80 cm) beside a bed up to 5.2×5.9 ft (160×180 cm) as a centerpiece. A pattern rug or a Kuromi split design suits a 4×6 or 5×7 ft rectangle; a kitchen or doorway rug suits 2×3 or 2.6×3.9 ft.
Your own design
If you'd like your child's name beside My Melody, or a design built around artwork you own, our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.
Gifts
A My Melody rug is a lovely gift for a child redecorating a bedroom, a baby shower for Sanrio-loving parents, a student moving into a dorm or a friend who has loved My Melody since childhood. If you aren't sure which design to choose, her face on a pale pink round rug is the safest. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the pink stays soft and the white stays bright, wash after wash.
A note on the character
Flat, Rhythm and the forest of Mariland
My Melody lives in the forest of Mariland with her family, and her friends include Flat, a shy blue mouse who often walks beside her, and her little brother, Rhythm. Her grandmother teaches her to bake, which is why pound cake and sweets appear so often in her stories.
A rug of a quiet forest path with My Melody and a small blue mouse walking together, or a picnic blanket with a pound cake and a basket of strawberries, captures that gentle world for a nursery or a girl's bedroom, without needing a big portrait.
Pair it with a strawberry pattern pillow and a small plush mouse, and the room becomes Mariland in miniature.
Soft pink, cream and a little green from the forest keep the scene as gentle as My Melody herself.
