The most powerful kid who just wants to be normal

A quiet, polite middle schooler has psychic powers strong enough to flatten a city, but he'd rather fit in, make friends and join a club. He keeps his emotions bottled up, and when they reach 100 percent, things explode. Meanwhile, he works part-time for a fake psychic con man who somehow turns out to be the best mentor he could have. Mob Psycho 100 is a funny, warm and visually spectacular series. A Mob Psycho 100-inspired rug brings its style into a room: an emotion meter filling toward 100%, a cheeky salt shaker, a little green spirit, swirling psychedelic bursts or a giant broccoli tree. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The series

Mob Psycho 100 began in 2012 as a webcomic by ONE, the creator of One-Punch Man, drawn in his famously loose style. The studio Bones adapted it into three anime seasons, in 2016, 2019 and 2022, praised as some of the most inventive animation of the decade. Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, is an eighth grader who hides his enormous psychic powers and works for Reigen Arataka, a self-proclaimed psychic who has no powers at all but plenty of confidence. Along the way, Mob joins the school's bodybuilding club, makes friends and learns that being a good person matters more than being powerful.

The emotion meter

Throughout the series, a counter on screen shows Mob's emotions building, from 0 toward 100 percent, until they burst. A rug of a meter filling from 0 to 100%, in bright segments, is a clever, graphic design for a teen's room or a dorm, and a funny, gentle reminder to let your feelings out before they explode.

Salt

The con-man mentor's signature move is throwing a handful of salt at spirits and shouting the name of his technique as if it were a powerful attack. A rug of a cartoon salt shaker mid-sprinkle is a hilarious design for a kitchen or a game room, an inside joke for fans. In a kitchen, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², for its grip.

A little green spirit

A small, scheming green spirit attaches himself to the hero, hoping to use his powers, and ends up becoming a loyal, wisecracking friend. A rug of our own little green floating ghost with a sly grin is a fun, cute design for a kid's room or a gaming corner.

Psychic bursts

When Mob's powers explode, the anime fills the screen with swirling, hand-painted, psychedelic colors. A rug of swirling psychic energy in purples, pinks, blues and gold, bursting outward from the center, is a stunning design for a gaming setup or a round rug. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. For more, see our psychedelic rugs.

The giant broccoli

In the second season, a battle ends with a colossal tree that looks exactly like a head of broccoli growing in the middle of town. A rug of a towering broccoli tree over a little town is a funny, surreal design for a kitchen, a playroom or a family that loves its vegetables.

The consultation office

The mentor runs a tiny, shabby office offering psychic consultations, exorcisms and spiritual advice. A retro office-sign rug, with bold lettering and a list of services of your own invention, is a fun design for a home office or just inside the front door; keep entry rugs indoors, out of the weather.

The bodybuilding club

Mob joins his school's bodybuilding club, where a group of kind, enormously muscular students cheer him on. A workout rug of dumbbells, push-up counts and encouraging words is a sweet, motivating design for a home gym or a teen's room. For more, see our sports rugs.

Hand-painted animation

The anime is famous for switching styles in its biggest moments, from clean lines to painterly, hand-drawn bursts of color that look like they were painted on glass. Fans often call it one of the most visually daring series of its time, and a psychic-burst rug captures a little of that explosive art.

Brothers

The hero's younger brother, talented at everything except psychic powers, is jealous of him for much of the story, and their reconciliation is one of the series' most moving arcs. For brothers sharing a room, two emotion-meter rugs, each at its own level, are a funny, fitting pair.

The art of the con

The mentor is a fraud, a showman and a surprisingly good person, giving fake massages and real advice. A rug of a retro office with a desk, a phone and a sign promising psychic help is a funny nod for anyone who runs a small business on charm.

Kindness over power

The series' message is gentle: being kind, honest and true to yourself matters more than any superpower. Many fans say the relationship between Mob and his flawed mentor is one of the warmest in anime. A cheerful rug in a teen's room can be a small reminder of that.

Gaming setups

A psychic-burst or emotion-meter rug under a gaming desk pairs beautifully with purple and blue lighting. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.

Teen rooms and dorms

A meter, spirit or salt rug brings humor and color to a teen's room or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

For older kids and teens

The series has some intense battles and spooky spirits, but it's warm and funny at heart, enjoyed by older kids, teens and adults. The little green spirit, the salt and the broccoli are the most lighthearted designs.

Kitchens

A salt-shaker or broccoli rug in front of the stove is a funny, cheerful touch for a family kitchen, and it goes straight in the washing machine after real spills. Choose Standard for its grip on tile.

Hallways

Down a hallway, a custom runner up to 10 ft long with an emotion meter stretching from 0% at one end to 100% at the other is a funny, graphic passage. Choose Standard, which stays put as people walk by.

Pairing with furniture

These rugs suit bright, playful rooms: simple furniture, a few framed prints of your own, a shelf of manga and figures and colorful LED lights for the psychic-burst designs.

Colors

Mob Psycho 100-inspired designs look best in bold psychedelic purples, pinks and blues, with the bright green of the little spirit and simple black and white for meters and signs.

Gifts

A Mob Psycho 100-inspired rug makes a great gift for an anime fan. The emotion meter is the cleverest and most stylish; the salt shaker is the funniest by far.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the colors stay at 100%, wash after wash.

Teru, Claw and the Telepathy Club

Mob's world is full of other espers, and many of them start as enemies. Teru Hanazawa, the self-confident boss of Black Vinegar Middle School, is the first powerful psychic Mob meets, and after their fight, which leaves Teru with a sudden new hairstyle, he becomes one of Mob's most loyal friends. Mob's brother Ritsu later awakens his own powers and gets drawn into a dangerous world.

Then there is Claw, a secret organization of espers that wants to rule the world, with its Seventh Division of young psychics and a leader known as the Boss. The Claw arc brings rooftop battles and city-wide chaos, but also Mob's growing understanding that power doesn't make anyone better.

At school, Mob is a member of the Telepathy Club, a tiny group whose members have no psychic powers at all, and of the Body Improvement Club, a group of kind, muscular boys who cheer him on in every workout. Those clubs are some of the show's warmest moments.

These characters make fun, character-light rugs. A sleek blond wig on a pedestal is a funny nod to Teru's transformation. A Claw-style corporate logo pattern on dark gray suits a teen's room, a little satire of evil organizations. A club room door labeled Telepathy Club, with a crooked hand-drawn sign, is a sweet design for anyone who loves the show's small, human scenes.

Studio Bones' animation, with its painted backgrounds and explosive psychic sequences, ran from 2016 to 2022. Pair these designs with warm, slightly faded colors and a bit of green, and the room captures the show's mix of chaos and kindness.

For fans who love the show's message that kindness matters more than power, these club and friendship designs are often the favorite choice. They suit a teen's bedroom, a shared dorm room or a family room where the series is watched together, and they bring a smile without needing a single psychic explosion on the floor.
