About Dorohedoro Rugs
A lizard-headed man, a dumpling shop and a city full of sorcerers
In a filthy, lawless city called the Hole, sorcerers from another world slip through doors to practice their magic on the locals, often with gruesome results. One of their victims, a man whose head was turned into a lizard's, has lost his memory and wants revenge. With his best friend, a tough young woman who runs a gyoza restaurant, he hunts sorcerers, hoping to find the one who cursed him. Dorohedoro is one of the strangest, grimiest, funniest and most loved cult anime of recent years. A Dorohedoro-inspired rug brings its weird charm into a room: plump gyoza, sprouting mushrooms, strange masks, reptile scales, black smoke or a rain-soaked city. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The series
Dorohedoro is a manga by Q Hayashida that ran from 2000 to 2018, famous for its gritty, detailed artwork. The studio MAPPA adapted it into a 12-episode anime in 2020, streamed internationally on Netflix, mixing hand-drawn and 3D animation. Caiman, the lizard-headed man, searches for the sorcerer who cursed him, while his loyal friend Nikaido cooks in her restaurant and fights at his side. In the sorcerers' world, a powerful crime boss who can create mushrooms rules over a gang of masked enforcers, and when the two worlds collide, the story becomes a twisting mystery about memory, identity and who's really the monster.
Gyoza
Nikaido's restaurant is famous for its gyoza, and the characters eat them constantly, even in the middle of chaos. A rug of plump, golden, pan-fried dumplings on a plate, with a little dish of dipping sauce, is a funny, mouthwatering design for a kitchen or a dining nook, and a crowd-pleaser even for people who've never heard of the show. In a kitchen, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put on tile. For more, see our kitchen rugs.
Gyoza at home
Gyoza are Japanese dumplings, adapted from Chinese jiaozi, usually filled with pork, cabbage, garlic and ginger, then pan-fried until crispy on the bottom and steamed on top. They became popular across Japan after World War II and are now a favorite in ramen shops and home kitchens. A gyoza rug is a cheerful nod to anyone who loves making them.
Mushrooms
The sorcerers' crime boss uses magic that makes mushrooms burst out of anything, including people. A rug of cute, colorful mushrooms sprouting across the floor, in red, brown and cream, is a playful, cottagecore-meets-creepy design for a bedroom or a living room, and an adorable pattern to anyone else. For more, see our mushroom rugs.
Masks
Every sorcerer wears a unique mask, from skulls and gas masks to hearts and strange, stitched faces. A rug of a wall of odd, hand-made masks of our own design, each one weirder than the last, is a fun, eye-catching design for a game room or a dorm. As a custom piece, design your own mask and put it center stage. Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′.
Reptile scales
The hero's lizard head is the first thing anyone notices. A rug of green reptile scales seen up close, glossy and textured, is a bold, modern design for a living room, and it reads as a striking animal-print pattern to anyone who hasn't seen the show. For more scales, see our snake rugs.
Black smoke
Sorcerers produce their magic as black smoke from their bodies, each one with a different effect. A rug of swirling, inky black smoke curling across pale gray is a moody, abstract design for a gaming setup or a round rug. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.
The Hole
The city is a grimy maze of concrete, rusty pipes, flickering signs, graffiti and endless rain. A rug of rain-soaked concrete with pipes and spray-painted tags is a gritty, atmospheric design for a hallway runner, up to 10 ft long, or a man cave. For more, see our graffiti rugs.
Doors between worlds
Sorcerers travel to the Hole through doors that only a rare few can create. A rug of a single strange door standing alone in a gray street, warm light spilling from the crack beneath it, is a mysterious, surreal design for an entryway or a hallway, and a fun puzzle for guests who don't know the show.
Food and friendship
Many of the series' best scenes happen around a table, with friends sharing dumplings, sandwiches and drinks after a long, bloody day. A kitchen rug printed with your own family's favorite dishes is a warm way to bring that spirit home, and it goes straight in the washing machine after dinner.
Loyal partners
The series is full of memorable partners: a pair of masked enforcers, one of them enormous, who are completely devoted to each other, and a mushroom-wielding crime boss who treats his gang like family. For couples or best friends, a pair of rugs with two matching masks of your own design is a fun nod to the show's many loyal duos.
Gross and lovable
Dorohedoro is violent and grotesque, yet its characters are warm, funny and oddly sweet, more interested in good food, friendship and fun than in being evil. That mix is why fans love it so much. A gyoza or mushroom rug captures the lovable side.
For adults
Dorohedoro is extremely violent and gory, with mature themes, so these designs suit adults. The gyoza, the mushrooms and the reptile scales are the most widely appealing and work in any home.
Bedrooms and dorms
A mushroom or mask rug brings quirky personality to a bedroom or a dorm. Choose Standard on hard floors. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Halloween
For Halloween, a mask wall or black smoke rug is a creepy, original welcome, far from the usual pumpkins. Just inside the front door, keep it indoors, out of the weather. For more, see our Halloween rugs.
Restaurants and home bars
For a dumpling bar, a home bar or a small restaurant, a gyoza rug behind the counter is a fun touch for the staff and a conversation starter for fans. Choose Standard for its grip, and remember our rugs are for indoor use.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit eclectic, grungy rooms: industrial shelving, exposed pipes or brick, neon signs, a collection of odd masks or figures and plenty of plants.
Colors
Dorohedoro-inspired designs look best in concrete gray and grimy green, inky black and rust, with the golden brown of gyoza and the bright reds and creams of mushrooms.

Gifts
A Dorohedoro-inspired rug makes a great gift for a cult anime fan or a dumpling lover. The gyoza is the funniest and most universal; the mask wall is the most striking.

Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills, including gyoza sauce, with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so it stays sharp even in the grimiest room, wash after wash.
Caiman, Nikaido and the En Family
Dorohedoro's cast is as strange and lovable as its city. Caiman, the amnesiac with a lizard's head, hunts sorcerers by putting their heads in his mouth, hoping one of them is the one who cursed him. His best friend Nikaido runs the Hungry Bug, a tiny gyoza restaurant in the Hole, and cooks huge plates of dumplings that every character seems to crave. Together they are the warm, greasy heart of the story.
On the other side of the door, En, the mushroom sorcerer, leads a powerful family from his mansion, turning enemies into mushrooms with a breath of smoke. His cleaners, Shin and Noi, are partners who wear masks of their own, Shin's a dark heart-shaped mask and Noi's a pale, animal-like one, and the forgetful Ebisu, in her skull mask, wanders through every scene causing chaos. Fujita, the hapless junior sorcerer, rounds out the family with his comic bad luck.
Each one gives a rug a motif that doesn't need a face. A heart-shaped mask on dark red is Shin, a field of plump mushrooms in cream and brown is En, and a plate of golden gyoza with a sauce dish is Nikaido's Hungry Bug, a perfect kitchen rug. A pattern of sorcerer masks, each different and slightly unsettling, makes a fun, chaotic design for a fan's bedroom.
Q Hayashida drew the manga from 2000 to 2018, and MAPPA's anime arrived in 2020, introducing the series to a new audience. Its grimy, cluttered look is part of its charm, so a Dorohedoro rug works best in a room that isn't trying too hard: a lived-in bedroom, a small apartment kitchen or a cozy corner full of books and figures.
