About Chiikawa Rugs
Small, cute and on the floor
A Chiikawa rug is the softest kind of fan decor: Chiikawa's round white face, with tiny eyes, pink cheeks and little bear-like ears, on a pale round rug. That's the classic design. The next favorite is the trio, Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi side by side, which suits a shared room or a fan who loves all three equally. For a calmer look, a pastel meadow with one small Chiikawa in the grass says it quietly. Every design is printed into soft velvet that goes in the washing machine.
What Chiikawa is
Chiikawa began in 2020 as a series of short comics posted online by the Japanese illustrator Nagano. Its full Japanese title roughly means "something small and cute," and that's exactly what its characters are: tiny, round creatures who live in a gentle world of picnics, snacks and naps, and who also work odd jobs, study for licenses and sometimes face strange monsters with more courage than they think they have. An anime adaptation by studio Doga Kobo began in 2022 as short episodes, and the series grew into one of the most popular character franchises in Japan and across East Asia, with dedicated stores, cafés and collaborations.
Part of its charm is that it isn't only sweet. Chiikawa's world can be tough, and its characters cry, worry and try again, which makes fans of all ages feel seen.
The three friends
| Character | Look | Personality |
|---|---|---|
| Chiikawa | A small white creature with bear-like ears and pink cheeks | Shy, gentle and easily moved to tears, but brave when it matters |
| Hachiware | A cat-like friend with a blue-and-white split pattern on its head | Cheerful, optimistic and fond of music |
| Usagi | A yellow rabbit-like friend with long ears | Wild, unpredictable and full of shouts and leaps |
Fans often choose the character who feels most like them, shy Chiikawa, cheerful Hachiware or wild Usagi, and a design with all three suits friends who share a room.
Most fans have a favorite, and a single-character rug is a lovely way to show it. The trio together is the classic group design.
Chiikawa's face on a round rug
Chiikawa's face is almost a circle already: a soft white head with two small ears, dot eyes and pink cheeks. On a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug, it fills the space perfectly, a gentle centerpiece for a bedroom. On a pale pink or mint background, it's especially soft. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Hachiware's split head
Hachiware's name refers to the classic split pattern on a cat's face, here in blue and white. That pattern alone, two halves meeting in a soft point, makes a clean, graphic round rug that only fans will recognize as Hachiware. It suits a minimal room, a desk area or a teen who likes subtle references.
Usagi's leap
Usagi is all energy: jumping, shouting, running off with snacks. A design of Usagi mid-leap, arms out, on a bright yellow or pale background, is a funny, lively rug for a playroom or a fan who loves the chaotic one. It pairs nicely with a calmer Chiikawa rug elsewhere in the room.
Chiikawa's tears
Chiikawa cries a lot, at scary things, at sad things and sometimes at happy things, and fans love it for that. Its teary face, little eyes brimming and mouth wobbling, has become one of the most shared images of the series, used online for every kind of overwhelming day. A crying Chiikawa design is a funny, honest rug for a student's desk during exam season, or for anyone who has ever needed a small, sympathetic face looking up at them from the floor.
Momonga, Rakko and the rest
Chiikawa's world has many other characters fans adore: Momonga, a small flying squirrel who wants to be called cute; Rakko, a strong, cool sea otter; and many more. A design with a favorite side character makes a rug for a fan who's followed the series closely, and a group design of the wider cast is a fun, busy rug for a playroom or a shared bedroom.
Meadows and odd jobs
In the comics, Chiikawa and friends work at small jobs, such as pulling weeds, and even study hard for a weed-pulling license. It's a funny, oddly relatable part of the series. A meadow design, soft green grass with little flowers and a tiny Chiikawa at work, is a peaceful rug that works as a pastel nature print in any room, and a gentle joke for fans who know the story.
Snacks and picnics
Food is at the heart of Chiikawa's world: rice balls, sweets, ramen and picnics with friends. A snack-pattern rug, small pastel foods scattered across a light background, is a cheerful choice for a kitchen corner or a snack area by a desk. On a kitchen floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which grips the floor and goes in the washing machine after spills.
A Chiikawa bedroom
Chiikawa decor is soft and pastel: pale pink, mint, butter yellow and sky blue, with white furniture and plenty of plush toys. A few ideas:
- Soft and simple: a round Chiikawa face rug by the bed, white bedding and a single plush on the pillow.
- The trio: a 4×6 ft rug with all three friends in the middle of the room, with pastel bedding.
- Subtle: Hachiware's split pattern or a pastel meadow, for a grown-up room.
- Cozy corner: a round rug, a floor cushion and a shelf of comics and plush.
For the softest bedside rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Desks and dorms
Chiikawa is especially popular with students and young adults, and a Chiikawa rug is a quick way to make a dorm or a desk feel cozy. A round rug fits under a desk chair; a 3.3×5 ft rug fits between dorm beds. Choose Standard there: its non-slip back lets chair wheels roll freely and stays put on hard floors. At the end of the year, it goes in the washing machine before it goes home.
Nurseries
Chiikawa's soft colors and simple, round faces make it a sweet nursery theme too. Choose a pale design, Chiikawa on white or a pastel meadow, so the room stays calm. Premium is soft for tummy time; once your child walks on a smooth floor, Standard's non-slip back is the safer choice. Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.
Chiikawa and other kawaii favorites
Chiikawa fans often love other soft, cute characters too. Many pair a Chiikawa rug with Sanrio favorites like Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty or Kuromi, and the whole Sanrio family is on our Sanrio rugs page. For pastel designs without a character, see our cute rugs, and for more anime, our anime and manga rugs.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best on hard floors, under chairs, in kitchens and in busy rooms, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best beside a bed or anywhere you sit on the floor. Both are printed the same way, so pastels stay soft and the white stays bright, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes
A single face suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug; 2.6 ft (80 cm) is cute beside a bed or under a small desk. The trio suits a 4×6 or 5×7 ft rectangle. A meadow or snack pattern works at any size, from a 2×3 ft rug by a door to a large rug in the middle of a room. A character-shaped rug, cut to Chiikawa's outline, comes in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm).
Your own design
If you'd like a name added, or a design built around artwork you own, our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Gifts
A Chiikawa rug is a lovely gift for a friend whose desk is already lined with Chiikawa plush, a student moving into a dorm or anyone who needs something small and cute in their life. If you aren't sure which design to choose, Chiikawa's face on a pale round rug is the safest; the trio is the most fun. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the pastels stay soft, no tears required.
A note on the characters
Colors for a Chiikawa room
Chiikawa's world is soft and pale, so the room around a Chiikawa rug should be too. Chiikawa is white with pink cheeks, Hachiware is white with blue-gray ears and a split blue-gray head, and Usagi is a creamy yellow with long ears. Those three palettes sit beautifully with white or light oak furniture, cream walls and a few pastel touches.
A plush shelf is part of the look for most fans: a row of small characters lined up above the bed or along a desk, with the rug below picking up their colors. Choose a round Chiikawa rug in white and pink for the middle of the floor, and let Hachiware's blue or Usagi's yellow appear in a cushion, a lamp or a blanket.
Avoid strong, dark colors next to such a gentle design; a sage green plant, a pale wood frame or a simple cloud lamp will keep the room as calm as the characters themselves, ready for a snack picnic on the floor.

FAQ
Questions about Chiikawa Rugs
Which Chiikawa rug design should I choose?
Chiikawa's round white face with pink cheeks on a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) pale round rug. The trio with Hachiware and Usagi suits a shared room.
Can I get Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi together?
Yes. The three friends side by side on a 4×6 or 5×7 ft rectangle, a classic design for a shared room.
Is there a subtle Chiikawa design for an adult's room?
Yes. Hachiware's blue-and-white split pattern on a round rug, or a pastel meadow with one tiny Chiikawa in the grass.
Which Chiikawa rug fits under a desk?
A 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug in Standard, whose non-slip back stays put and lets the chair wheels roll freely.
Is a Chiikawa rug good for a nursery?
Yes, in pale cream and pink. Premium's thicker 7 mm pile is softest for tummy time; once your little one is walking, Standard's non-slip back keeps Chiikawa from sliding on the floor.
Do you make a Chiikawa-shaped rug?
Yes. Picture a little white blob with tiny ears and pink cheeks lying on the floor: the smallest Chiikawa cut-out is about 2.6 ft (80 cm) across, the biggest about 5.9 ft (180 cm).
How do I wash a Chiikawa rug?
Wash it on a gentle cold cycle and dry it flat. The soft whites and pastels of Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi come out just as cute.
Is this official Chiikawa merchandise?
No. Our Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi designs are inspired by the characters; Padrift is an independent studio with no affiliation with Nagano or Chiikawa's rights holders.
