About Akatsuki Rugs

Red clouds on a black sky

In Naruto, few images are as instantly recognizable as a black cloak covered in red clouds outlined in white. It belongs to the Akatsuki, a secret organization of the most powerful rogue ninja in the world, and for many fans the villains are as beloved as the heroes. An Akatsuki-inspired rug brings that dark, dramatic style into a room: a pattern of red clouds on black, a glowing red eye with spinning black marks on a round rug, a flock of crows against a blood-red moon or a slashed headband that marks a ninja who has turned their back on home. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

Red clouds on black is the design most fans recognize first, so it's the safest pick for a gift; the ten rings suit someone who knows every member by name.

Who are the Akatsuki?

Akatsuki means dawn or daybreak in Japanese. In Masashi Kishimoto's manga, serialized from 1999 to 2014, and its anime adaptations, the organization began with three war orphans from the Hidden Rain Village, Yahiko, Nagato and Konan, who dreamed of bringing peace to a world torn apart by ninja wars. After tragedy struck, their group was transformed into a band of ten S-rank criminals from different villages, hunting the tailed beasts for a terrible plan. Its members, each with their own fighting style and painful past, became some of the most popular characters in the series, especially during Naruto Shippuden.

The red clouds

The red cloud pattern is simple and bold, and that's exactly why it works so well on a rug: rounded red clouds with white outlines, scattered across deep black. In a 4×6 or 5×7 ft size, it's a striking centerpiece for an anime bedroom or a game room, and it pairs perfectly with black furniture and red LED lighting.

The red eye

The Uchiha clan's Sharingan, a glowing red eye with black comma-shaped marks called tomoe, is one of the most iconic powers in the series, and its more advanced forms carry stranger patterns still. A red eye with spinning black marks on a round rug is a dramatic design for a gaming corner or a dorm, as if the floor were watching you. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.

Crows and the red moon

Crows scattering into the night sky are closely tied to one of the organization's most tragic and beloved members, a prodigy who carried a terrible secret for the sake of his village and his little brother. A rug of black crows flying across a huge red moon is a moody, cinematic design for a bedroom or a home theater.

The slashed headband

In the Naruto world, ninja wear a metal forehead protector engraved with their village's symbol. A rogue ninja who abandons their village scratches a line through it. A design of a slashed headband plate is a subtle, cool nod to the series for a teen room or an entryway; keep entry rugs indoors, out of the weather. Ours uses original symbols of our own.

Ten rings

Each member wears a ring engraved with a single kanji on a specific finger. A round rug with ten rings arranged in a circle, each with its own character, is a detailed, collector-style design that true fans will love decoding, matching each ring to its owner.

The hidden rain village

The organization's base lies in a gloomy, industrial village where it never stops raining, full of tall grey towers and pipes. A rain-village rug, grey towers under slanting rain, is a moody, atmospheric design for a bedroom or a study, calm in its own way, like a rainy afternoon spent rewatching the series.

Villains with a story

Part of what makes the Akatsuki so loved is that almost every member has a painful history: children orphaned by war, prodigies forced into impossible choices, idealists who lost faith in peace. The series uses them to explore one of its biggest themes, how cycles of hatred begin and how they might be broken. For many fans, wearing red clouds isn't about cheering for the bad guys; it's about understanding them.

For teens and older fans

Naruto is aimed at older kids and teens, and the Akatsuki storylines are among its darkest. These designs suit teen, college and adult rooms best. For brighter designs for younger fans, the Hidden Leaf, the hero's orange and the nine-tailed fox on our Naruto page are a better fit.

Pairing with furniture

Red-cloud rugs look sharp with black or dark grey furniture, a black metal bed frame, a red accent chair or beanbag and a shelf of figures. Keep the walls white or charcoal and add red LED strips for a dramatic, cohesive room.

Anime bedrooms

For a Naruto fan, an Akatsuki-inspired rug is the heart of an anime bedroom. Pair it with black and red bedding, a few framed prints of your own, a figure shelf and red string lights. On a hard floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², so the rug stays put. For a softer bedroom rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

Gaming setups

The black and red palette is perfect for a gaming setup with red RGB lighting. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets the wheels roll. For more, see our gaming rugs.

Dorms

A red-cloud rug brings instant anime style to a dorm room, and it's bold enough to stand on its own in a small space. Choose Standard on hard dorm floors so it stays flat and put.

Cosplay and photos

For cosplayers who wear the black-and-red cloak, a red-cloud or red-moon rug makes a great backdrop for photos and videos at home. A plain black rug with a single red cloud keeps the focus on the costume.

Shaped rugs

A rug cut to the shape of a single red cloud, white outline and all, is a fun, graphic piece beside a bed or under a desk. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm).

Hallways

Down a hallway, a custom runner up to 10 ft long with red clouds drifting across black, or a line of crows, makes a dramatic passage. Choose Standard, which stays put as people walk by.

Colors

Akatsuki-inspired designs look best in black, deep red and white, with grey for rain designs. Keep the rest of the room simple, black, white and a single red accent, so the clouds pop.

The rest of the series

For the Hidden Leaf, the nine-tailed fox, Team 7 and the hero himself, see our Naruto rugs. For more anime, see our One Piece, Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball and Bleach rugs and all our anime and manga rugs.

Gifts

An Akatsuki-inspired rug makes a great gift for a Naruto fan, a cosplayer or a teen who has watched every episode. The red-cloud pattern is the most recognizable choice; the red eye is the most dramatic and the crows the most poignant.

Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the red clouds stay vivid on the black, wash after wash.

Member by member

Each Akatsuki member brings a look of their own, which makes the organization a rich source of designs beyond the red cloud. Itachi Uchiha is all crows and a red Sharingan; Kisame Hoshigaki carries Samehada, the scaled, bandage-wrapped sword that feeds on chakra, a texture that works beautifully as an all-over pattern. Deidara sculpts explosive clay birds and insists that art is an explosion, so a white clay owl or bird on black is a playful design for a fan who quotes him.

Sasori fights with puppets, and a scorpion tail or a wooden marionette silhouette suits a darker room. Konan folds paper into angels and flowers, and her pale blue origami flower is one of the gentlest designs the group offers, calm enough for a bedroom that doesn't want to look like a villain's lair. Pain's Rinnegan, the rippled purple eye, fills a round rug with concentric rings, while Tobi's orange spiral mask turns a round rug into one of the most recognizable faces in the series.

Hidan's triple-bladed scythe, Kakuzu's stitched masks and Zetsu's split black-and-white look round out the roster. If you are building a room around the group, pick one member's motif for a small rug by the door and keep the big rug in the classic red clouds, so the space feels coordinated rather than busy.

A member motif also works as a quiet way to show which villain a fan secretly roots for. Many fans have a favorite, from Itachi's tragic choices to Konan's loyalty, and a small rug with just that member's symbol, crows, a paper flower or a clay bird, says it without a word. Pair it with black bedding and a single red accent, and the room nods to the whole organization while celebrating one story.
