About Fox Rugs
A little fox for every room in the house
With its russet coat, white-tipped tail and bright, clever face, the fox is easily one of the most charming animals in all of home decor. A fox rug brings that warmth into a room: a fox curled into a sleeping ball, cut to its own outline, a fox face peeking shyly out from a round rug or a fox wandering through ferns and toadstools. It's a favorite for woodland nurseries, cozy cabins and autumn living rooms. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so the fine detail of fur and whiskers comes out beautifully, and every rug goes in the washing machine.

|---|---|---|
| Sleeping fox | A fox curled into a ball, tail wrapped around, cut to shape | Nurseries, beside a bed |

| Woodland fox | A fox among ferns, mushrooms and trees | Nurseries, cabins, bedrooms |
| Autumn fox | Rust, gold and brown with falling leaves | Living rooms, entryways in fall |
| Arctic fox | A white fox in a snowy landscape | Winter decor, calm bedrooms |

A sleeping fox curled into a circle makes a natural round rug, and its soft oranges suit a nursery or a reading corner.
The sleeping fox
Foxes sleep curled into a tight ball, their bushy tail wrapped around their nose to keep warm, and that pose makes one of the coziest shaped rugs there is. Cut to the outline of a curled fox, in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm), it looks like a real fox has settled in for a nap on your floor. A sleeping fox beside a crib or in a cozy reading corner is endlessly sweet. Our shaped rugs page shows how they work.
Foxes in the wild
The red fox is one of the most widespread wild mammals on Earth, living across much of North America, Europe, Asia and North Africa, from forests and farmland to city parks. Its bushy tail, sometimes called a brush, helps with balance and keeps it warm in winter. Scientists have even found that foxes hunting mice in snow tend to pounce in a particular compass direction, possibly using the Earth's magnetic field. Fox cubs, called kits, are born in spring in an underground den. A fox rug is a lovely starting point for sharing facts like these with a curious child.
Woodland nurseries
A woodland nursery, foxes, owls, bunnies and deer among trees, ferns and mushrooms, is calm, cozy and suitable for any baby. A fox is often its star. Pair a fox rug with forest green, rust, cream and warm wood, a few woodland prints on the wall and a soft blanket. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for tummy time; once your child is walking on a smooth floor, switch to Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m². For more woodland friends, see our owl rugs, bunny rugs and mushroom rugs, and our kids and nursery rugs.
Autumn foxes
A fox's coat is the color of autumn itself, and a fox rug in rust, burnt orange, gold and brown, with falling leaves and acorns, is a beautiful seasonal design for a living room or an entryway from September through Thanksgiving. It suits a cabin or a farmhouse all year round, alongside plaid throws, wood and leather.
Arctic foxes
The arctic fox, which turns snowy white in winter to blend into the tundra, makes a calm, elegant rug in white, silver and pale blue. It suits a minimalist bedroom, a Scandinavian-style living room or a winter-themed nursery.
Geometric foxes
For a modern look, a fox drawn in faceted triangles, sometimes called a low-poly design, in copper, rust and grey feels graphic and contemporary. It suits a modern nursery, a teen's bedroom or a creative studio, and it pairs well with our geometric rugs.
Foxes in stories
Foxes have been clever, cunning characters in stories for thousands of years. In Aesop's fables, a fox that can't reach a bunch of grapes decides they must be sour anyway, giving us the phrase sour grapes. In Japanese folklore, the kitsune is a magical fox that grows extra tails as it ages. A storybook fox rug, with a fox in a little scarf or reading a book, is a charming design for a reading nook.
Foxes of the world
The red fox is the most familiar, but there are many other kinds. The tiny fennec fox of the Sahara has the largest ears for its size of any canid, which help it hear prey underground and stay cool in the desert heat. The gray fox of North America is one of the few canids that can climb trees. A rug with a fennec's enormous ears or a gray fox perched on a branch is a fun, unexpected twist on the classic fox design.
Winter foxes
A fox in a cozy scarf, trotting through snowy pines, or curled up beneath a starry winter sky makes a lovely seasonal rug from December through February. It pairs naturally with plaid blankets, candles and a crackling fire, and it's a sweet, festive alternative to more traditional holiday designs.
Colors
Fox designs look richest in warm, earthy palettes: rust, burnt orange, copper and cream, with forest green and charcoal as companions. For a softer nursery, choose a pale fox on cream with sage; for a dramatic living room, a deep orange fox on charcoal makes a bold statement.
Twins and siblings
For twins or siblings sharing a room, two sleeping fox rugs, one beside each bed, make a sweet, matching pair, like two kits curled up in the den.
Entryways
Just inside the front door, a small fox rug gives guests a warm, woodland welcome, especially in autumn. Keep it indoors, out of the weather, and choose Standard for its grip on tile and wood.
Gifts
A fox rug makes a thoughtful baby shower gift, a cabin housewarming present or a birthday gift for anyone who loves foxes. A sleeping fox is the safest choice for a nursery; a realistic fox portrait suits a grown-up room.
Cabins and cozy bedrooms
In a mountain cabin, a lodge or a cozy bedroom, a fox rug fits right in perfectly with flannel, wool, wood beams and a crackling fire. A fox face on a round rug in front of a fireplace, or a woodland fox scene at the foot of a bed, feels warm and inviting. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Kids' rooms and playrooms
For older children, a busy woodland scene with foxes, rabbits and owls makes a great play rug for toy animals, and a cartoon fox makes a friendly bedroom rug. On a hard floor, choose Standard so the rug stays put. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.
Round fox rugs
A fox face, with its pointed ears just reaching the edge, or a fox curled up in the middle, suits a round rug perfectly. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Printed, never fur
Fox fur has long been used in fashion, but there's no need for it on a floor. Our fox rugs are printed on soft velvet, so no animal is involved, and you get a rug that goes straight in the washing machine. For more animal designs, see our animal rugs.
Your own fox
Want a fox with your baby's name, a fox in your nursery's colors or a design based on a photo of a fox in your backyard? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best for entryways, playrooms and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in nurseries and bedrooms. Both are printed the same way, so the russet stays rich and the white tip stays bright, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and fox-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your fox stays bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, wash after wash, year after year.
How foxes live
Foxes are canines, cousins of wolves and dogs, but in many ways they behave like cats. Red foxes have vertical, slit-shaped pupils that help them see in dim light, they stalk quietly through tall grass, and they hunt mice with a famous move called mousing: listening for a rustle under snow or grass, then leaping high into the air and diving headfirst onto their prey.
A fox family lives in a den, sometimes called an earth, dug into a bank or under tree roots, and the kits are born in spring. By early summer they tumble around the entrance, playing while their parents bring food. In winter, a fox curls up in the open and wraps its thick, bushy tail, called a brush, around its nose like a scarf to stay warm.
Foxes are also surprisingly noisy. On winter nights, a vixen's high, eerie scream carries a long way, startling people who don't know what they're hearing.
Those behaviors make lovely, storytelling rugs. A red fox mid-leap above a snowy field, caught in that headfirst dive, is full of energy for a playroom. A den scene with three kits peeking out from tree roots suits a woodland nursery, and a fox curled tightly in its own tail, asleep in the snow, is a calm design for a bedroom.
For a child who loves animals, these designs open a conversation about how foxes really live, from their cat-like eyes to their winter tail scarves.
For families who live near woods where foxes roam, a fox rug can also become a way to talk about wildlife at the door: when to look for them at dusk, how to keep a respectful distance, and why they're welcome neighbors.
