About Strawberry Rugs
A sweet little rug
A strawberry rug is one of the very sweetest things you can put on a floor: a big red strawberry with its green leafy top, cut to shape, beside a bed or in front of a kitchen sink. Others love a scatter of little strawberries on a pink or cream ground, strawberries with picnic gingham or a vintage botanical drawing of a strawberry plant in flower and fruit. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so the reds are rich and the tiny seeds are crisp, and every rug goes in the washing machine.
Strawberry-shaped rugs
A rug cut to the outline of a strawberry, plump and red with a crown of green leaves, is a playful, eye-catching piece for almost any room. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A small strawberry in front of a sink or a vanity is charming; a large one in the middle of a bedroom or a playroom is a statement.
Strawberry designs

The strawberry-shaped rug suits a kitchen or a bedroom, while strawberries and gingham make a cheerful breakfast nook.
The strawberry's secrets
Strawberries are full of little surprises. Botanically, a strawberry isn't a true berry at all, and the little "seeds" on the outside are each a tiny fruit of their own, holding a single seed inside; an average strawberry carries about two hundred of them. Most of the strawberries grown in the United States come from California, where fields along the coast produce them for much of the year. A design that shows the whole plant, white flowers, green runners and red fruit, is a lovely way to share those facts with a curious child.
Cottagecore strawberries
Strawberries are a favorite symbol of cottagecore, the romantic, rural style built on gardens, baking and simple pleasures. A strawberry rug with gingham, wildflowers or a basket of freshly picked berries feels like a summer afternoon in the country. It pairs beautifully with wooden furniture, floral curtains, white crockery and woven baskets. For more in the same spirit, see our mushroom rugs, daisy rugs and flower rugs.
Kitchens
The kitchen is the natural home of a strawberry rug: in front of the sink, beneath a breakfast table or by the stove where jam is being made. Choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which grips the floor, and when juice or flour spills, it goes in the washing machine. A red and white strawberry gingham rug looks especially fresh in a white kitchen. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.
Vintage botanical strawberries
Old botanical illustrations of strawberries, with careful drawings of the leaves, flowers, runners and fruit, have an elegant, scholarly charm. A rug in that style suits a farmhouse kitchen, a study or a living room with antique prints on the walls. For the most famous strawberry design of all, see our William Morris rugs, home of the Strawberry Thief pattern.
Cute and kawaii strawberries
Smiling strawberries with little faces, pastel strawberries and strawberries with bows are a favorite of kawaii and cute rooms. They suit kids' bedrooms, dorms and pastel desk corners. For more sweet designs, see our cute rugs and bow rugs.
Bedrooms and vanity corners
A strawberry rug beside the bed, or a strawberry-shaped rug under a vanity stool, adds a playful pop of red to a pink, cream or white bedroom. For the softest bedside rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Nurseries
Soft strawberries on cream or pale pink make a sweet, gentle nursery theme. Pair them with white furniture, gingham bedding and a few fruit prints. Choose Premium for tummy time and first crawls, and switch to Standard's non-slip back once your child is walking on a smooth floor. Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.
Bathrooms
A small strawberry rug by the vanity is a sweet bathroom touch. One honest note: our rugs are printed velvet, not thick, quick-drying bath mats, so place one by the vanity or the door, rather than right where you step out of the shower, and choose Standard for its grip on tiles.
Strawberry season
Across much of the country, strawberry season arrives in late spring and early summer, with pick-your-own farms, strawberry festivals and shortcake on every table. A strawberry rug carries that feeling through the year, and it makes a cheerful seasonal swap in May and June.
Strawberry milk pinks
The soft, creamy pink of a strawberry milkshake has become a color all of its own in bedroom decor. A strawberry milk rug, gentle pinks and creams with a few small berries, is a dreamy choice for a teen's bedroom or a vanity corner, especially with white furniture, a fluffy throw and warm fairy lights.
Colors that go with strawberries
Strawberry designs pair beautifully with a few simple palettes: red and white for a fresh, classic kitchen; pink and green for a playful, preppy room; cream and sage for a soft cottage look; and red with navy for a nautical summer twist. Pull one color from the rug into a cushion, a tea towel or a vase, and the room will feel pulled together.
Picnics and summer parties
A strawberry gingham rug spread in the middle of the living room makes an indoor picnic for little ones on a rainy day, and it's a cute backdrop for a summer birthday party with berry cupcakes and lemonade. When the party is over, it goes straight in the washing machine.
Kids' rooms and playrooms
Children love a strawberry-shaped rug: it's bright, friendly and easy to recognize. In a playroom, it makes a soft spot for tea parties and stories. On a hard floor, choose Standard so it stays put. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.
Dorm rooms
A strawberry rug is a quick, cheerful way to make a dorm room feel personal. A strawberry-shaped rug beside the bed or under the desk chair works well; choose Standard on hard dorm floors, and wash it at the end of the year before packing it for home.
Gifts
A strawberry rug makes a sweet gift for a baker, a gardener, a new homeowner or a friend whose favorite color is red. A strawberry-shaped rug is the safest choice; a custom rug with her name is the most personal.
Round strawberry rugs
A round rug with a ring of strawberries around the edge, or a single big berry in the middle, is a soft, cheerful shape for a kitchen corner or a reading nook. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Entryways
Just inside the front door, a small strawberry rug gives a sweet welcome to guests and catches a little of the outdoors on the way in. Our rugs are for indoor use, so keep it inside rather than out in the weather, and choose Standard for its grip.
Your own strawberry
Want a strawberry rug in your exact shade of red or pink, with your name or your bakery's name, or a design from your own garden? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best for kitchens, bathrooms and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best beside a bed or in a nursery. Both are printed the same way, so reds stay rich and greens stay fresh, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and strawberry-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills, jam and juice included, with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your strawberries stay ripe and red, wash after wash, all year long.
Wild, garden and white strawberries
The strawberries in supermarkets are surprisingly young. The modern garden strawberry is a hybrid of two wild species, one from North America and one from Chile, which crossed by chance in French gardens in the 18th century and produced big, sweet fruit. Before that, people gathered tiny wild strawberries, and alpine strawberries, small, intensely fragrant and often barely larger than a fingertip, are still grown by gardeners for their flavor.
There are also white strawberries, sometimes called pineberries, which stay pale when ripe and have red seeds and a faint pineapple aroma. Each strawberry carries about 200 seeds on its outside, a fact children love, and the fruit technically isn't a berry at all, botanically speaking.
In the United States, Plant City, Florida, calls itself the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World and hosts the Florida Strawberry Festival every spring, with giant strawberry shortcakes and fields of red fruit. California grows the majority of America's strawberries along its coast.
Those details inspire more varied strawberry rugs. A scatter of tiny wild strawberries with their leaves and white flowers feels delicate and cottagey in a nursery. A pattern of white strawberries with red seeds is an unusual, pretty design for a kitchen. A strawberry field with rows of plants and baskets under a blue sky captures a day of picking for a breakfast nook.
For a family that goes strawberry picking every year, a rug with the farm, the date and a basket of fruit makes a sweet keepsake of a summer tradition.
For gardeners who grow their own, a rug that shows the plants, the runners and the white flowers before the fruit turns red makes a sweet, educational gift for a kitchen or a greenhouse corner.
In June, pick-your-own farms across the country make it easy to pair the rug with real berries.
