About Mushroom Rugs
A little forest floor indoors
A mushroom rug is one of the most charming rugs you can put in a room: a red-and-white spotted toadstool cut to shape beside the bed, a woodland floor of ferns, mushrooms and tiny snails, or a groovy 70s mushroom in orange and brown. It brings a touch of fairy tale and a feeling of the forest into a bedroom, a reading nook or a kitchen. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so every spot and gill comes out crisp, and every rug goes in the washing machine.
Toadstool-shaped rugs
The classic storybook mushroom, a domed red cap with white spots on a pale stem, is the favorite mushroom rug design, and it's at its best as a shaped rug, cut to the outline of the mushroom itself. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A small toadstool beside a bed or in front of a dresser is sweet; a large one in the middle of a playroom is a centerpiece children love to sit on.

The fly agaric
The storybook toadstool is based on a real mushroom, the fly agaric, which grows in birch and pine forests across the Northern Hemisphere. Its bright red cap and white spots have made it a symbol of fairy tales, gnomes and woodland magic for centuries. It's also poisonous, which is exactly why it lives best on a rug rather than on a plate.
Cottagecore
Cottagecore, the romantic, rural look built on wildflowers, linen, baking and life in a little cottage, made mushrooms one of its favorite symbols. A cottagecore mushroom rug, mushrooms growing among ferns, moss, wild strawberries and tiny snails, feels like a walk in the woods. It pairs beautifully with wooden furniture, floral bedding, woven baskets and plenty of plants. For more in the same spirit, see our flower rugs, strawberry rugs and botanical rugs.
Groovy 70s mushrooms
In the 1970s, mushrooms were everywhere in American homes: on kitchen canisters, ceramic lamps, wallpaper and tea towels, usually in orange, brown, mustard and avocado green. A 70s mushroom rug brings that warm, nostalgic look back, perfect for a retro kitchen, a den with wood paneling or a living room with a velvet sofa. For more from the era, see our retro rugs.
Pastel mushrooms for nurseries
Soft pastel mushrooms, in pink, peach, lilac and mint, make a gentle, whimsical nursery theme that suits any baby. Pair them with woodland animals, a few stars and white furniture. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for tummy time and first crawls; switch to Standard's non-slip back once your child is walking on a smooth floor. Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.
Field-guide mushrooms
For a grown-up look, a rug drawn like a page from an old field guide, rows of different mushrooms, each carefully illustrated, has a quiet, scholarly charm. Chanterelles, porcini, morels and fly agarics side by side make a beautiful pattern for a study, a library or a kitchen.
The hidden kingdom
Fungi are neither plants nor animals: they belong to a kingdom of their own. The mushrooms we see are only the fruiting bodies of much larger networks of threads, called mycelium, that run through soil and wood, linking trees and recycling fallen leaves. One honey fungus in Oregon's Malheur National Forest spreads across more than three square miles underground, making it one of the largest living things ever found. A design inspired by those hidden networks, glowing threads beneath a forest floor, is a fascinating rug for a science-loving room.
Fairy rings and gnomes
Sometimes mushrooms sprout in a perfect circle on a lawn or in a forest clearing. These are called fairy rings, and in European folklore they were said to mark the spot where fairies had danced through the night. A fairy-ring rug, a circle of little mushrooms on a round green rug, is a magical design for a child's room, and a garden gnome tucked among the toadstools makes it even more whimsical.
Autumn on the floor
Mushrooms are at their best in autumn, when damp forests fill with them. A rug with mushrooms among fallen leaves, acorns and pinecones, in rust, gold and brown, makes a cozy seasonal design that stays out from September through Thanksgiving, and it suits a cabin or a farmhouse all year.
Foragers and food lovers
For cooks and foragers, mushrooms mean flavor: golden chanterelles, honeycombed morels in spring and meaty porcini in the fall. A field-guide rug in the kitchen is a lovely nod to a favorite hobby. One sensible reminder that goes with any mushroom decor: never eat a wild mushroom unless an expert has identified it.
Mixing with other patterns
Mushroom designs pair well with florals, gingham, small checks and plain linen, and they sit happily beside woodland prints on the walls. Keep the colors related, reds and creams or browns and mustards, and the room will feel cozy rather than busy.
In the bedroom
A mushroom rug beside the bed adds whimsy to a bedroom without overwhelming it. A toadstool shape suits a child's or a teen's room; a cottagecore woodland rug suits an adult's, especially with floral bedding and warm wood. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Reading nooks
A round woodland rug, a big floor cushion, a basket of books and a soft lamp make a reading corner that feels like a clearing in the forest. Choose Premium for this, soft enough to sit on for hours. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Kitchens
A 70s or field-guide mushroom rug in front of the sink or the stove is a cheerful kitchen touch. Choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which grips the floor and goes in the washing machine after spills. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.
Bathrooms
A small mushroom rug by the bathroom vanity is a sweet surprise. One honest note: our rugs are printed velvet, not thick, quick-drying bath mats, so place one by the vanity or the door, rather than right where you step out of the shower, and choose Standard for its grip on tiles.
Kids' rooms and playrooms
Children love mushrooms, especially the red-spotted kind, and a toadstool rug becomes a stage for fairy-tale games, a home for toy animals or a magic spot to sit and read. On a hard floor, choose Standard so it stays put. Our kids play rugs have more ideas. For video game fans, our Mario rugs have a famous mushroom of their own.
Woodland companions
Mushrooms pair naturally with forest creatures: foxes, owls, hedgehogs, snails and frogs. A woodland rug with a fox peeking out from behind a toadstool, or an owl on a mushroom, is a lovely nursery or kids' room design. For more, see our fox rugs and owl rugs.
Entryways
Just inside the front door, a small toadstool or woodland rug gives guests a cheerful welcome and catches a little of the outdoors on the way in. Keep it indoors, out of the weather, and choose Standard for its grip.
Your own mushroom
Want a mushroom in your exact colors, with your child's name, or based on a mushroom you photographed on a forest walk? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best for kitchens, bathrooms, playrooms and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in nurseries, bedrooms and reading nooks. Both are printed the same way, so reds stay bright and greens stay fresh, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and mushroom-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your mushrooms stay fresh and bright, wash after wash, no forest floor required.
Mushroom facts for the curious
A mushroom is only the part of a fungus we see. Most of the organism lives underground as mycelium, a vast web of thread-like hyphae that spreads through soil and wood, breaking down dead plants and sharing nutrients with tree roots. Some scientists call these networks the wood wide web, because trees and fungi trade sugars and minerals through them.
Fungi can grow enormous. In Oregon's Blue Mountains, a single honey fungus, Armillaria ostoyae, is thought to cover more than 2,000 acres underground, making it one of the largest living organisms on Earth. Some fungi glow in the dark, a soft green light called foxfire that has been seen on rotting wood in forests for centuries. And fungi are, surprisingly, more closely related to animals than to plants.
Those facts inspire rugs with a sense of wonder. A cross-section of the forest floor, with mushrooms above and glowing mycelium threads spreading below, is a beautiful, educational design for a child's room or a science lover's study. A rug of bioluminescent mushrooms glowing green on dark wood makes a magical night-time design, and a field guide page of labeled species suits a cottage kitchen or a reading nook.
One important note for young foragers: never eat a wild mushroom unless an expert has identified it, because many deadly species look similar to edible ones. Rugs, on the other hand, are completely safe to admire.
Pair mushroom designs with earthy browns, mossy greens and warm creams, a few plants and some natural wood, and the room feels like a quiet clearing in the forest.
Mushroom lovers who forage with an expert, grow oyster mushrooms on a kitchen counter or simply love the shapes of fungi will find these designs a natural fit. In a cottage kitchen, a field-guide rug sits happily beside baskets and jars, and in a child's room, a glowing forest floor makes bedtime a little more magical.
