About Animal Rugs
A rug for every animal lover
Animal rugs bring warmth, personality and a sense of wonder into a room: a gentle elephant in a nursery, a sleepy fox curled up beside a bed, a majestic lion portrait in a living room or a whale gliding across a child's floor. They range from realistic portraits to sweet, simple cartoon characters, and from rectangles to rugs cut to the animal's own outline. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so fur, feathers and faces come out with lovely detail, and every rug goes in the washing machine.

Animal-shaped rugs
One of the most delightful ways to use an animal design is a rug cut to the animal's own outline: a fox curled into a ball, a sitting bunny with tall ears, an elephant with its trunk raised or a round panda face. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A shaped animal beside a crib or a bed is the first friendly face a child sees each morning.
Safari rooms
A safari theme, lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras on a golden savanna under a big sky, is a classic choice for nurseries and kids' rooms. It's warm, gender-neutral and full of things to name and point to. Pair a safari rug with natural wood, woven baskets, soft greens and a few animal prints on the walls. For striped and spotted patterns, see our zebra rugs and animal print rugs.
Woodland rooms
A woodland theme, foxes, owls, bunnies, deer and hedgehogs among trees, mushrooms and ferns, feels cozy and calm. It suits a nursery, a cabin bedroom or a reading nook, and it pairs beautifully with forest green, rust, cream and warm wood. For more woodland touches, see our mushroom rugs and botanical rugs.
Ocean animals
Whales, dolphins, sea turtles, octopuses and fish make cheerful, calming designs for a child's room or a bathroom. A big blue whale swimming across a rug, with a calf beside it, is especially sweet. For more, see our ocean rugs.
Cuddly favorites
Teddy bears and pandas are among the softest, gentlest animal designs, perfect for nurseries and toddler rooms. A teddy bear rug feels nostalgic and cozy, while a round panda face, black and white, is simple, graphic and endlessly cute.
Realistic or cartoon?
Animal rugs come in two broad styles. Realistic portraits, a lion's mane in fine detail, a fox's russet coat or an owl's patterned feathers, suit living rooms, studies and grown-up bedrooms, where they read as art. Cartoon designs, with simple shapes, big eyes and friendly faces, suit nurseries, kids' rooms and playrooms. Choose the style that fits the room's age and mood.
Animal rugs for nurseries
Animals are a classic nursery theme, gentle, timeless and suitable for any baby. Pastel animals on cream, a shaped bunny or bear beside the crib or a safari or woodland scene in soft colors all work well. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for tummy time and first crawls; once your child is walking on a smooth floor, switch to Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m². Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.
Learning with animals
An animal rug is a natural teaching tool for young children: naming animals, making their sounds, counting them and learning where they live. A safari or ocean scene can spark questions about faraway places, while a woodland rug can lead to stories about the animals in your own backyard. A rug with labeled animals and their habitats makes a great homeschool or classroom rug. For more, see our classroom rugs.
Kids' rooms and playrooms
For older children, an animal scene makes a great play rug for toy animals, and a bold portrait of a favorite animal makes a bedroom feel personal. On a hard floor, choose Standard so the rug stays put. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.
Grown-up animal rugs
Animal rugs aren't only for children. A realistic lion portrait in a study, a pair of elegant herons in a living room, a fox in autumn colors in a cabin or a tiger in jungle leaves in a dramatic dining room all read as sophisticated design. For more, see our tiger rugs.
Printed, never hide
Many people searching for animal rugs want the look of an animal without using a real hide or fur. All of our animal designs are printed on soft velvet: no animal is involved, and the rug goes in the washing machine. For hide-shaped designs, see our faux cowhide rugs and our animal print rugs.
Pets at home
If you live with animals as well as loving them, our rugs are a practical choice: pet hair lifts off with a vacuum on a low setting, and the whole rug goes in the washing machine when needed. Standard's non-slip back stays put when pets run across it. For portraits of your own pets, see our cat rugs and dog rugs.
What animals stand for
Animals carry meaning across cultures, which can make an animal rug a thoughtful choice. The lion stands for courage and strength; the owl, long linked with the Greek goddess Athena, for wisdom; the fox for cleverness; the elephant, especially with its trunk raised, for good luck and memory; the bunny for gentleness and new beginnings; and the panda for peace and calm. A rug with a meaningful animal makes a lovely gift for a new baby, a graduate or a new home.
Protecting wild animals
Many of the animals on our rugs face real challenges in the wild. Giant pandas were moved from endangered to vulnerable in 2016 thanks to conservation work in China, while African elephants are now listed as endangered, and many lion populations have declined. A rug can be a gentle starting point for talking with children about wildlife and why protecting it matters, and printed designs mean no animal is ever harmed for the decor.
Zoo trips and safaris
For families who love visiting zoos, aquariums or wildlife parks, an animal rug can be a souvenir of a favorite day out, or a custom design from your own photos of a giraffe up close or an elephant at the watering hole. For a child, seeing that animal on their bedroom floor keeps the memory of the trip alive.
Choosing colors
Safari designs look best in warm golds, tans and soft greens; woodland designs in rust, forest green and cream; ocean designs in blues and whites; and cuddly designs in pastels or simple black and white. For a nursery, softer tones are calmer; for a playroom, brighter colors are more fun. Pull one or two colors from the rug into cushions and bedding to tie the room together.
Shared rooms
When siblings share a room and love different animals, a safari or woodland scene that includes everyone's favorite keeps the peace, or two smaller shaped rugs, a bunny for one child and a fox for the other, give each their own friend.
Entryways and bathrooms
A small animal rug just inside the front door, an owl or a fox, makes a friendly welcome; keep it indoors, out of the weather. In a kids' bathroom, an ocean animal rug by the vanity is a cheerful touch; it's a printed velvet rug, not a quick-drying bath mat, so keep it out of the splash zone. Choose Standard for both, for its grip on hard floors.
Gifts
An animal rug makes a lovely baby shower or birthday gift, and a custom portrait of a beloved pet is one of the most meaningful. A shaped bunny or bear is the safest choice for a nursery; a safari scene is the most fun for a playroom.
Round animal rugs
A round rug suits many animals beautifully: a lion's face with its mane filling the circle, a curled-up fox, a panda's round face or a sleeping owl. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Your own animal
Want a portrait of your own pet, a favorite animal with your child's name or a design built around a photo from a safari or a zoo trip? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to the animal's shape. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best for playrooms, kitchens, entryways and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in nurseries and bedrooms. Both are printed the same way, so fur and feathers stay detailed, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and animal-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your animals stay bright and friendly, wash after wash.
Farm animals and barnyard rooms
Cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and horses are a cheerful, familiar theme for a first nursery or a toddler's room. A red barn with animals peeking out of its doors, a patchwork of fields seen from above, or a simple row of friendly farm faces gives little ones animals they can name and imitate: moo, oink, baa and cluck.
Farm rooms suit soft reds, butter yellows, grass greens and cream, colors that sit comfortably beside wooden furniture and gingham curtains. A round rug with a single cow or a sleepy pig works under a rocking chair, while a road-and-fields play layout gives tractors and toy animals somewhere to go. For a grown-up farmhouse kitchen, a quieter pattern of hens or a black-and-white cow print adds the same country warmth without looking like a nursery.
FAQ
Questions about Animal Rugs
Which animals do you have rugs for?
Lions, bunnies, foxes, giraffes, elephants, pandas, owls, whales and teddy bears, plus cats, dogs, tigers and many more.
Do you make animal-shaped rugs?
Yes. Rugs cut to an animal's own outline, like a curled fox or a sitting bunny, in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm).
Are animal rugs good for nurseries?
Yes. Pastel animals and safari or woodland scenes are classic nursery themes. Choose Premium for tummy time and Standard once your child walks.
Are your animal rugs made from real hide or fur?
No. Lions, foxes, pandas and every other animal here are printed onto velvet, so the rugs are cruelty-free, soft enough for a nursery floor and washable in a machine.
What's the difference between a safari and a woodland theme?
Safari means lions, elephants and giraffes on a savanna; woodland means foxes, owls and bunnies among trees and mushrooms.
Are animal rugs machine washable?
Yes. Safari, woodland and ocean designs all go in on a gentle cold cycle; dry them flat. Pet owners can vacuum on low between washes to lift hair.
Can I get a rug of my own pet?
Yes. Send a clear photo of your dog, cat or rabbit and we'll print it at any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to your pet's outline. Pet portraits are made to order and can't be returned.
Do you make grown-up animal rugs?
Yes. Realistic portraits, like a lion's face or a fox in autumn colors, suit living rooms, studies and grown-up bedrooms.
