About Bunny Rugs

Soft as a little bunny

Few animals in the world are as gentle and sweet as a bunny, and a bunny rug brings that softness into a room. The sweetest design is a rug cut to the shape of a bunny itself, round body, fluffy tail and two long ears, lying beside a crib or a bed. Others love pastel bunnies hopping across a nursery rug, a rabbit nestled among spring flowers or a simple, elegant rabbit silhouette in the Scandinavian style. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, and every rug goes in the washing machine, which matters a great deal in a nursery.

A bunny-shaped rug beside a crib makes a sweet first rug for a nursery, and Standard's non-slip back holds it in place on a wooden floor.

Bunny-shaped rugs

A rug cut to the outline of a sitting bunny, with its tall ears and a round little tail, is one of the most charming nursery rugs there is. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). In soft white, grey or blush pink, a bunny-shaped rug beside the crib is the first soft thing a toddler's feet touch in the morning.

A bunny nursery

Bunnies are a truly timeless nursery theme, gentle, cozy and suitable for any baby. Pair a bunny rug with white or pale wood furniture, a soft blanket, a mobile of clouds or stars and a few plush rabbits. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for tummy time and first crawls; once your child is walking on a smooth floor, switch to Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m². Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.

Rabbit facts for little ones

Rabbits are full of fun surprises for curious children. Their front teeth never stop growing, which is why they love to nibble on hay and vegetables. A happy rabbit sometimes leaps into the air and twists, a little jump of joy that owners call a binky. Wild rabbits live in burrows called warrens, and a baby rabbit is called a kit. A bunny rug makes a lovely starting point for stories about rabbits, real and imagined.

Vintage and storybook charm

Bunnies have a special place in children's classics. The Velveteen Rabbit, published in 1922, tells the story of a toy rabbit who becomes real through a child's love, and it's still read to babies today. A vintage-style bunny rug, soft and slightly faded, like an illustration from an old picture book, has a tender, nostalgic charm that suits a nursery or a reading nook.

Colors

Bunny designs look loveliest in soft, gentle palettes: blush pink, mint, butter yellow, powder blue, oatmeal and dove grey, often on cream. For a gender-neutral nursery, sage and oatmeal are popular; for a brighter playroom, add a pop of carrot orange and leafy green.

Twins and siblings

For twins or siblings sharing a nursery, two bunny-shaped rugs in coordinating colors, one beside each crib, make a sweet, matching pair while giving each little one their own bunny.

Baby showers and gifts

A bunny rug is one of the most thoughtful baby shower gifts there is: practical, washable and lovely in photos. A custom bunny with the baby's name and birth date becomes a keepsake long after the nursery years. It's also a sweet Easter or first-birthday gift from grandparents.

Playrooms

In a playroom, a bunny meadow rug with carrots and flowers makes a soft spot for toy animals, tea parties and stories. On a hard floor, choose Standard so the rug stays put. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.

Entryways

Just inside the front door, a small bunny rug makes a sweet spring welcome. Keep it indoors, out of the weather, and choose Standard for its grip on tile and wood.

Spring and Easter

Bunnies are the symbol of spring, and the Easter bunny, a tradition brought to America by German immigrants, delivers baskets of eggs and treats every year. A spring bunny rug, rabbits among tulips and daisies, or an Easter design with pastel eggs, is a cheerful seasonal swap for an entryway or a kitchen from March to May. For more seasonal designs, see our holiday rugs, and for spring flowers, our flower rugs and daisy rugs.

Bunnies and carrots

A playful garden scene, bunnies nibbling carrots in neat vegetable rows, is a fun design for a child's room or a playroom, and a charming one for a cottage kitchen. On a kitchen floor, choose Standard, which grips the floor and goes in the washing machine after spills. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.

Scandinavian rabbits

For a modern, minimal nursery or bedroom, a simple rabbit silhouette in soft grey, oatmeal or sage on cream feels calm and grown-up. It suits Scandinavian-style rooms with pale wood, white walls and natural textiles, and it won't feel babyish as a child grows.

Storybook rabbits

Rabbits have starred in children's stories for generations, from Beatrix Potter's mischievous Peter Rabbit in the early 1900s to countless bedtime tales since. For storybook rabbit designs, see our Peter Rabbit rugs, and for Sanrio's sweet rabbit in a pink hood, our My Melody rugs.

Woodland friends

Bunnies pair naturally with other woodland animals: foxes, owls, deer and hedgehogs among trees and mushrooms. A woodland rug with a bunny and its forest friends is a lovely, calm nursery design. For more, see our fox rugs, owl rugs and mushroom rugs.

Cute bedrooms

Bunnies aren't only for babies, of course. A pastel bunny rug, or a bunny with a bow, suits a cute, coquette-style bedroom or a dorm room for anyone who loves soft, sweet things. For more, see our cute rugs and bow rugs. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

Homes with pet rabbits

Pet rabbits are popular companions, and their owners often love bunny decor. A washable rug is practical, but one honest note: house rabbits love to chew, and a curious bunny may nibble the edge of any rug. Keep an eye on your rabbit when it's out, and give it plenty of safe things to chew instead.

The Year of the Rabbit

In the Chinese zodiac, the rabbit is the fourth of the twelve animals, associated with gentleness, kindness and good fortune. A bunny rug makes a thoughtful gift for someone born in a Year of the Rabbit, or for the Lunar New Year.

Bathrooms

A small bunny rug by a kids' bathroom vanity is a cheerful touch, especially in spring. One honest note: our rugs are printed velvet, not thick, quick-drying bath mats, so place one by the vanity or the door, rather than right where a child climbs out of the tub, and choose Standard for its grip on tiles.

Round bunny rugs

A round rug with a single bunny in the center, or a ring of bunnies around the edge, is a soft, friendly shape for a reading corner or a nursery. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.

Your own bunny

Want a bunny with your baby's name, a portrait of your own pet rabbit or a design in your nursery's colors? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check names and spelling before ordering.

Standard or Premium

Standard is best for kitchens, entryways, playrooms and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in nurseries and beside a bed. Both are printed the same way, so pastels stay soft, and both go in the washing machine.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and bunny-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your bunny stays soft, sweet and bright, wash after wash, year after year.

Lops, lionheads and other breeds

Pet rabbits come in dozens of breeds, and each has a look that could inspire a rug. Holland Lops have floppy ears that hang down beside the face, Netherland Dwarfs are tiny with short, upright ears and round eyes, and Lionheads wear a fluffy mane around their necks. Dutch rabbits have a crisp two-tone coat, usually a white band across the shoulders and colored hindquarters, while Rex rabbits have short, plush fur that feels like velvet. At the other end of the scale, the Flemish Giant can weigh as much as a small dog.

A lop-eared bunny cut-out is especially sweet beside a crib, and a Dutch rabbit in black and white makes a graphic, modern design for a nursery that doesn't want pastels. A Lionhead with its fluffy mane is a fun, fuzzy-looking design for a playroom.

For curious kids, there is one more bit of trivia worth sharing: rabbits and hares are cousins, not the same animal. Baby rabbits are born hairless with their eyes closed, while baby hares arrive furry, with their eyes open, ready to run.

In East Asian folklore there is also a rabbit on the Moon, pounding rice or an elixir in a mortar, which makes a magical bedtime design: a white rabbit on a pale golden moon against a deep blue sky.

Rabbit owners often want a rug that suits both their home and their pet. If a real bunny will share the room, choose a design in soft neutrals like cream, gray or fawn, which hide stray fur, and place the rug where your rabbit likes to stretch out, since many rabbits enjoy lying on soft surfaces. Keep cables tidy and away from the edges, because rabbits love to chew. For a nursery, a pastel bunny cut-out by the crib or a round rug with a sleepy rabbit under a crescent moon sets a gentle, storybook tone that grows with the child.
