About Flower Rugs

Floral rugs that go in the washing machine

A flower rug is one of the quickest ways to make a room feel softer and more alive. Ours are printed edge to edge on velvet, which lets us reproduce everything from delicate vintage roses to bold, oversized modern blooms with crisp detail and rich color, and every one of them goes in your washing machine. You can choose a classic rectangular floral area rug, a round floral rug, or a rug cut into the shape of a flower itself, one of the most playful styles in our range.

Vintage florals

Vintage floral rugs carry centuries of history. In seventeenth-century France, the royal Savonnerie workshop, named after the former soap factory in Paris where it began, wove grand carpets full of flowers, scrolls and garlands for palaces. The tapestry rugs of Aubusson brought softer, romantic florals to French homes. Our vintage-style florals are inspired by that tradition: roses and peonies, scrolling leaves and a gently faded palette of rose, cream, sage and soft gold. They suit a traditional living room, a dining room or a romantic bedroom, and because ours are printed, they cost a fraction of a woven antique and go in the washing machine.

Cottage florals

Cottage florals, small blooms scattered across a pale ground, feel like an English country garden or a well-loved chintz armchair. They're relaxed, cheerful and easy to live with, and they hide small marks well, which makes them a good fit for kitchens, sunrooms, nurseries and bedrooms. Pair them with white-painted furniture, gingham, wicker and plenty of plants.

Modern oversized blooms

For a modern room, a rug with a few oversized flowers, painterly poppies, graphic tulips or a single enormous bloom, turns the floor into a work of art. It suits a clean, minimal living room where the rug is the main source of pattern and color, and it pairs well with plain sofas, white walls and simple wood or metal furniture.

Retro flower power

The simple, bold flowers of the 1960s and 70s, round daisies with five petals in orange, pink, yellow and green, are back in bedrooms and dorm rooms. They're playful and sunny, and they suit rooms with curvy furniture, colorful bedding and a little vintage character. For more from that era, see our retro rugs, and for daisies on their own, our daisy rugs.

Flower-shaped rugs

A flower-shaped rug, cut to the outline of a daisy, a tulip or a simple five-petal bloom, is one of the most charming rugs you can put in a room. Our shaped rugs come in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A daisy-shaped rug beside a bed, a tulip in a nursery or a big flower in the middle of a playroom feels cheerful and handmade. Round floral rugs, from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm), are another soft option, lovely under a round table or in a reading corner. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.

Choosing a color

  • Green florals, sage, olive or emerald leaves with cream or pink blooms, are the most requested right now. They bring the garden indoors and pair beautifully with wood, rattan and plants.
  • Blue florals, from soft blue and white to deep navy with cream flowers, feel fresh and classic, a natural fit for coastal homes, bathrooms and bedrooms.
  • Pink florals, blush roses or bright pink petals, feel romantic or playful depending on the shade, a favorite for bedrooms, nurseries and dressing areas.
  • Neutral florals, cream, beige and soft grey, add pattern without color, ideal for a calm living room.
  • Dark florals, flowers on black or deep green, feel moody and dramatic, a popular look in modern and maximalist rooms.

In the living room

Under a coffee table, a floral area rug sets the tone for the whole room. A 5×7 ft rug is our largest standard size and suits most coffee table areas; a custom size up to 5′11″ × 10′ covers a longer seating area. If your sofa and curtains are patterned, choose a softer, more scattered floral; if they're plain, a bold one can carry the room. For the softest feel underfoot, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our living room rugs page has more layouts.

In the bedroom

A floral rug beside the bed or at its foot is one of the gentlest ways to start the day. Vintage roses suit a romantic bedroom; cottage florals suit a relaxed one; a retro daisy suits a teen's room. Our bedroom rugs page has more ideas.

In the kitchen and bathroom

A small floral rug in front of the sink, the stove or the vanity brightens rooms that are often all hard surfaces. Choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which grips the floor. One honest note for bathrooms: our rugs are printed velvet, not thick, quick-drying bath mats, so place one by the vanity or the door, rather than right where you step out of the shower. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.

Hallways and runners

A floral runner turns a hallway into a garden path. Our standard sizes are rectangular, but a custom size lets you order a long, narrow floral rug, up to 10 ft long, to fit your hallway exactly. Choose Standard so it stays put as people walk by.

Nurseries

Soft cottage florals, pastel tulips or a flower-shaped rug make a sweet, calm nursery. Choose Premium for tummy time and first crawls, and Standard's non-slip back once your child starts walking on a smooth floor. Every rug goes in the washing machine, which will be needed. Our kids and nursery rugs have more ideas.

William Morris and the Arts and Crafts look

In Victorian England, the designer William Morris created some of the most famous floral patterns ever made, dense, interlaced flowers, vines and birds in deep natural colors. They remain hugely popular today, especially in period homes, studies and libraries. Our William Morris rugs page is devoted to that style.

Flowers and their companions

Florals pair naturally with other nature designs. For leaves and plants without flowers, see our botanical rugs; for garden creatures, our butterfly rugs and bee rugs; for a playful cottage feel, our mushroom rugs and strawberry rugs. For flowers in a classic Chinese or French style, our chinoiserie rugs and toile rugs are lovely companions.

Mixing florals with other patterns

Florals look best with simple stripes, checks and solid colors that pick up one of their shades. A green floral rug with a sage checked cushion, or a blue floral with striped curtains, feels layered and intentional. Avoid pairing two busy florals at very different scales.

Printed versus woven florals

Traditional floral rugs are woven, tufted or hand-knotted, which takes time and limits the detail and number of colors. Printing lets us reproduce fine shading, delicate petals and painterly brushwork in any colors you choose, on a light rug you can wash at home. The trade-off is a smoother, lower pile than a thick woven or wool rug. If you love detailed florals and want something easy to care for, printed velvet is the better fit.

Your own flowers

If you'd like a floral in your own colors, your wedding flowers, a painting of your garden or a flower you've designed, our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.

Standard or Premium

Standard is best for kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, hallways and under desk chairs, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in living rooms, bedrooms and nurseries. Both are printed the same way, so the colors stay rich, and both go in the washing machine.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and flower-shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. We don't make 8×10 rugs. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the flowers stay in bloom, wash after wash.

Birth month flowers

Each month has its traditional flowers, a custom that makes floral rugs personal. In the American list, January is the carnation, February the violet, March the daffodil and April the daisy or sweet pea. May belongs to lily of the valley, June to the rose, July to larkspur and water lily, and August to gladiolus and poppy. September has the aster and morning glory, October the marigold and cosmos, November the chrysanthemum, and December the narcissus and holly.

A birth-flower rug turns a pattern into a gift. A scatter of violets for a February baby, a ring of roses for a June wedding anniversary, or a bunch of marigolds for an October birthday carries meaning beyond decoration. For a family, a rug can bring together the flowers of every member's birth month, a garden of everyone you love.

These designs work in many styles: vintage botanical illustrations, modern oversized blooms, or simple folk-art flowers. Choose colors that suit the room as well as the month, and the rug feels personal without looking like a greeting card.

Birth-flower rugs also make a beautiful anniversary gift, combining the flowers of both partners' birth months in one bouquet. A rose and a chrysanthemum, a daisy and a holly sprig, a violet and a marigold: each pairing tells a small story about two people. For a new baby, a single birth flower with the name and date in elegant script becomes a nursery keepsake that can move to a bigger room as the child grows.

FAQ

Questions about Flower Rugs

Are your floral rugs machine washable?

Yes. From vintage roses to retro flower power, every floral rug goes through a gentle cold machine wash. Let it dry flat and vacuum on low between washes to keep the blooms bright.

Do you make flower-shaped rugs?

Yes. A daisy, a tulip or one big simple bloom can be cut along its petals, from 2.6×2.6 ft (80×80 cm) to 5.2×5.9 ft (160×180 cm).

What floral styles do you offer?

Vintage roses, cottage florals, modern oversized blooms, retro flower power and Arts and Crafts patterns, in green, blue, pink, neutral and dark tones.

Which floral rug suits a living room?

A 4×6 or 5×7 ft vintage or modern floral under the coffee table. Choose a softer floral if your sofa or curtains are already patterned.

Can I use a floral rug in the bathroom?

It can go by the sink or the bathroom door, where an oversized bloom or a cottage garden looks lovely. Keep it out of the shower splash, though, since velvet dries slowly, and pick Standard for tile.

Do you make round floral rugs?

Yes. Round floral rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, lovely under a round table or in a reading corner.

Can I get a floral runner for a hallway?

Yes. English garden or retro flower-power patterns can bloom along a custom runner up to 10 ft long. Choose Standard for hallway grip.

Do you make an 8×10 floral rug?

No. Our largest standard floral rug is 5×7 ft; custom rugs reach 5′11″ × 10′, enough room for a big William Morris-style garden of blooms.
