About Metroid Rugs
A bounty hunter alone on an alien world
Metroid arrived in 1986 on the Famicom Disk System in Japan and the NES elsewhere, made by Nintendo's R&D1 team. Players explored the alien planet Zebes as a bounty hunter in a mechanical suit, searching a vast, interconnected maze for upgrades that opened new paths. At the end of the game came one of the most famous twists in early gaming: the hero, Samus Aran, removes her helmet and is revealed to be a woman. Super Metroid in 1994, the first-person Metroid Prime in 2002 and Metroid Dread in 2021 kept the series at the top of its genre, and Metroid Prime 4 continued the saga in 2025.
Metroid's lonely, atmospheric exploration helped define a whole style of game, named after it and Castlevania: the "Metroidvania". A Metroid rug brings that sci-fi mystery into your room. Ours are printed into short velvet, so Samus's orange armor, alien greens and crisp pixel art come out sharp, and they go in the washing machine.
Samus Aran
Samus is one of gaming's great heroes: a quiet, fearless bounty hunter raised by the bird-like Chozo, encased in a powerful Power Suit with an arm cannon and a green visor. Her suit's orange-and-red armor, with its rounded shoulder pads, is instantly recognizable. A Samus design, standing against an alien landscape, is the signature Metroid rug, and her helmet on a round rug is a clean, iconic alternative.
A pioneering hero
When players first saw Samus's face at the end of the original game, many had assumed the armored hero was a man. The reveal made her one of the first and most influential female protagonists in video games, and she's remained an icon ever since: capable, independent and never defined by anyone but herself. A Samus design is a meaningful choice for anyone who grew up admiring her.
The Morph Ball
Samus can curl into the Morph Ball, a small, glowing sphere that rolls through tunnels and drops bombs, one of the most distinctive abilities in gaming. Its round shape makes it perfect for a round rug: a gleaming orange sphere with a glowing core, simple and graphic, recognized by every fan.
The Metroids
The series' namesakes are Metroids: jellyfish-like parasites with a translucent green body and red nuclei, which latch onto their prey and drain its energy. They're frightening in the games and strangely beautiful as a design. A single Metroid floating against a dark background is a striking, alien rug, and the baby Metroid, which imprints on Samus like a newborn chick, adds an emotional layer for fans of Super Metroid.
Ridley and the Space Pirates
Ridley, the giant, winged leader of the Space Pirates, is Samus's archenemy, the creature who killed her parents. Alongside Kraid and Mother Brain, the brain in a jar who rules Zebes, he's one of the series' most recognizable villains. A Ridley design, wings spread against a red sky, is a dramatic rug for a dark game room.
Chozo statues
Across the series, Samus finds Chozo statues, seated stone figures of the ancient bird-like race who raised her, holding glowing items in their outstretched hands. They're one of Metroid's most elegant images, part temple, part treasure. A Chozo statue design, carved stone with a glowing orb, is a beautiful, almost archaeological rug that suits a study as easily as a game room.
The map of Zebes
Super Metroid's map, revealed square by square in blues and pinks as you explore, is one of the most iconic maps in gaming, and exploring every corner of it is the whole point. A pixel-map design, a grid of rooms and corridors in Super Metroid colors, is a clever, abstract rug that looks like a geometric pattern to visitors and like hours of exploration to fans.
Suits and upgrades
Samus's suit changes as she grows stronger:
| Upgrade | Look |
|---|---|
| Power Suit | The classic orange and red with a green visor |
| Varia Suit | Larger, rounded shoulders in orange and yellow |
| Gravity Suit | Purple and violet, for moving through water and lava |
| Zero Suit | A sleek blue bodysuit worn beneath the armor |
A favorite suit, drawn in detail, lets fans match a rug to the color they love most: classic orange for nostalgia, Gravity Suit purple for a dark setup.
Energy tanks and the Screw Attack
Metroid's items are part of its language: energy tanks that expand Samus's health, missiles in their expanding counter, the Speed Booster, the Ice Beam and the Screw Attack, a glowing somersault that destroys anything in its path. Their pixel icons make a fun, graphic pattern for a retro corner.
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime, made by Retro Studios and released in 2002, brought the series into first person, viewing the world through Samus's visor, with rain streaking across the glass and her reflection appearing in bright flashes. A visor-view design, the HUD's green lines and scanning reticle framing an alien landscape, is a clever, immersive rug for a Prime fan's setup.
Metroid Dread and E.M.M.I.
Metroid Dread, released in 2021, was the first new side-scrolling Metroid in nineteen years, and its relentless robot hunters, the E.M.M.I., became instant icons of tension. A Dread design, its sleek, blue-lit corridors and Samus's new suit, suits a modern gaming setup with cool lighting.
Speedruns and sequence breaks
Metroid has always rewarded speed: the original game showed more of Samus at the end the faster you finished, and Super Metroid became one of the most celebrated speedrunning games ever, with players finding clever ways to skip items and break the intended order. For a speedrunner, a map design marking a favorite route is a perfect trophy rug.
The music
Metroid's music, from Hirokazu Tanaka's eerie, minimal score for the original to the brooding themes of Super Metroid and the Prime games, is a big part of its loneliness and tension. Fans often say the planet itself feels alive through the soundtrack. A Metroid rug in a music corner is a quiet nod to that atmosphere.
Your own bounty
For a custom Samus portrait, your own fan art or a favorite map, our custom rugs print any design in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or as a round rug up to 5.9 ft (180 cm).
The atmosphere
Metroid is famous for its mood: alone on a hostile planet, with eerie, minimal music and the sense that something is always watching. Its alien caverns, glowing fungi, ruins and lava make for some of the most atmospheric landscapes in gaming. An alien-landscape design, deep caves lit by strange plants, is a quiet, mysterious rug for a bedroom.
Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, released in 2025 after a long development, sent Samus to a new world with new psychic abilities, continuing the first-person series for a new generation of players. For fans who waited years for it, a design inspired by its fresh landscapes is a way to celebrate the wait finally ending.
A Nintendo room
Metroid sits alongside Zelda and Mario as one of Nintendo's founding series, and Samus has fought in Super Smash Bros. since the very first game. Fans of the genre she helped create will also like our Castlevania and Hollow Knight pages.
A setup
Under the gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely and stays put. Pair a Metroid rug with green or orange accent lighting, a Samus figure on the shelf and a framed map print. See our gaming rugs for more.
Colors and rooms
Metroid's palette is Samus's orange and red, the green of her visor and the Metroids, and the deep blues, purples and blacks of alien caverns. A Morph Ball or helmet suits a bright, playful room; an alien landscape or Metroid suits a dark, moody one.
Sizes and levels
A helmet, the Morph Ball or a Metroid suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug. A pixel map, a Chozo statue or Samus in full armor suits a rectangle, 4×6 or 5×7 ft. For a bedroom, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back.
Gifts
A Metroid rug is a great gift for a Nintendo collector, a sci-fi fan or anyone who still remembers finishing Super Metroid. If you aren't sure which design to choose, Samus's helmet or the Morph Ball is the safest choice, recognized by fans of every Metroid era. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes. The design is printed into the fibers, so the visor stays green for years to come.
A note on the series
Samus's gunship
In almost every Metroid game, Samus's gunship waits on a landing pad near the start, a sleek, orange-and-green craft with a domed cockpit. It's where she arrives, where she saves her progress in many games and where she leaves once the mission ends, often against a countdown.
A rug of the gunship on a rocky landing pad under an alien sky, or seen from above with its wings spread, is a calm, evocative design for a game room. It reminds players of the relief of reaching the ship after a hard boss, and it fits beautifully with the series' quiet, lonely atmosphere.
Add a small save-room light nearby for the full effect.
For many players, the gunship is the one safe place in a hostile world, which makes it a comforting design by a bedroom door.
