Fear the old blood

Bloodborne, released in 2015 by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, took the studio's punishing style into a new world: Yharnam, a decaying Victorian city famous for a miraculous blood that heals all ills, and now overrun by a plague that turns its people into beasts. You arrive as a hunter on the night of the hunt, armed with a transforming trick weapon and a pistol, and what begins as a gothic werewolf story slowly reveals itself as cosmic horror.

Fans consider it one of the greatest games ever made, and its atmosphere, gas lamps, wet cobblestones, cathedral spires and an enormous moon, is unforgettable. The Doll

The Messengers

The Messengers are tiny, pale, wrinkled creatures who rise from the ground in the Dream and around lamps, offering weapons and items with outstretched arms. Bloodborne tracks a strange statistic called Insight: the more forbidden knowledge you gain, the more you see, and eventually creatures that were always there appear clinging to the buildings. The Great Ones

Behind the beasts lie the Great Ones, vast, incomprehensible beings beyond human understanding: Amygdala clinging to cathedral walls, Ebrietas in her hidden chapel, the infant Mergo and the drowned Kos. The Old Hunters

The Old Hunters expansion took players into the Hunter's Nightmare, a twisted memory of the first hunters, with Ludwig, Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower and the fishing hamlet. Chalices and the labyrinth below

Beneath Yharnam lie the Chalice Dungeons, labyrinths opened by performing rituals with strange goblets, such as the Pthumeru chalices. Their tombs of stone, sarcophagi and torchlit corridors are some of the game's most atmospheric spaces.
