About Doom Rugs
The game that started it all
Doom came out in December 1993, made by a handful of developers at id Software, and changed gaming forever. It wasn't the first first-person shooter, but it was the one that defined the genre: fast, violent, endlessly replayable, with multiplayer deathmatch over office networks and a level editor community that's still making new maps three decades later. Its story fits on a postcard: a lone space marine on the moons of Mars, a teleporter experiment gone wrong, and the forces of Hell pouring through.
The red-and-orange palette of hell, the skull imagery and the heavy metal attitude make Doom one of the boldest rug themes for a gaming room with dark walls.
The series returned in spectacular form with Doom in 2016, Doom Eternal in 2020 and Doom: The Dark Ages in 2025, each faster, louder and more metal than the last. A Doom rug brings that energy to the floor of the setup. Ours are printed into short velvet, so hellfire reds, gunmetal greys and crisp pixel art come out sharp, and they go in the washing machine.
Shareware and deathmatch
Much of Doom's spread came from shareware: the first episode, Knee-Deep in the Dead, could be copied and shared for free, passed around on floppy disks and early bulletin boards. And Doom popularized the word "deathmatch", as players connected computers over office and university networks to hunt each other through its levels. Those late-night network sessions were, for many people, the beginning of online gaming.
The Doom Slayer
The hero, once known simply as Doomguy and now the Doom Slayer, is a silent, unstoppable force in green armor whose only motivation is to destroy demons. His helmet, with its dark visor and battle-scarred plating, is the series' most iconic image. A Slayer helmet on a round rug is bold, graphic and instantly recognized by any shooter fan, and in a dark gaming setup with red lighting, it looks fantastic.
The status-bar face
In the original Doom, a pixel-art portrait of the marine sat in the center of the status bar, glancing left and right, grinning when he picked up a new weapon and growing bloodier as his health dropped. It's one of the most famous faces in gaming history. A pixel-art status-bar design, the face flanked by ammo and health numbers in the classic red digits, is a perfect retro rug for a gaming corner, and pure nostalgia for anyone who played in the 1990s.
The Cacodemon
If any monster was made for a round rug, it's the Cacodemon: a floating red sphere with one huge green eye, horns and a gaping, toothy mouth. It's terrifying in the game and strangely lovable everywhere else, and fans adore it. A Cacodemon rug is funny, bold and graphic, and one of the best Doom designs for a doorway, a bedroom or the floor beneath a gaming chair.
The demons of Hell
Doom's bestiary is one of gaming's most famous:
- Imps, throwing fireballs from the shadows.
- Pinkies, charging at full speed.
- The Baron of Hell, horned and goat-legged.
- The Revenant, a skeleton with shoulder-mounted rockets.
- The Mancubus, the Arachnotron and the Pain Elemental.
- The Cyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind, the original bosses.
A demon line-up in the classic pixel style is a fun, retro rug; a modern demon in Eternal's detailed style suits a dark, dramatic setup.
The BFG 9000
The BFG 9000, the series' ultimate weapon, fires a giant ball of green plasma that clears whole rooms. Its glowing green shot and bulky silhouette are legendary. A BFG design, or a weapon wheel with the shotgun, super shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle and chainsaw, is a playful rug for fans who know every weapon slot by heart.
Mars and the UAC
Doom's demons arrive through the bases of the Union Aerospace Corporation on Mars and its moons, Phobos and Deimos: industrial corridors, toxic green slime, computer stations, red Martian rock. That sci-fi side gives Doom its own look, separate from Hell. A UAC-style design, hazard stripes, base signage and a Martian sunset, is a sharp, industrial rug for a setup, and our space rugs have more Martian landscapes.
Can it run Doom?
Doom's code was released publicly in 1997, and ever since, programmers have made a sport of porting it to everything: calculators, cameras, printers, smart fridges and many stranger devices. "Can it run Doom?" has become a beloved tech joke. A design that plays on it, the classic Doom screen on an unlikely device, is the perfect rug for a programmer's desk or a hacker's workshop.
Mods and maps
Doom's modding community is one of the oldest and most devoted in gaming, with players still building new maps, called WADs, and total conversions decades later. For level designers and modders, a design based on a top-down Doom map, its rooms and corridors in the classic automap's colored lines, is a clever, meaningful rug.
Speedrunning
Doom has one of the oldest speedrunning communities in gaming, with players recording demo files of record runs since the 1990s and still finding new shortcuts decades later. For a speedrunner, a rug based on a favorite level makes a perfect trophy for the floor beneath the chair, and E1M1, Hangar, the very first map of the first episode, is the classic choice that every Doom player has run through hundreds of times.
Your own map
Modders and level designers can turn their own creation into a rug. Send us a screenshot of your map in the automap view, or any Doom-inspired artwork, and our custom rugs will print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′.
The Slayer's legend
The modern games gave the silent marine a mythology: the Night Sentinels, ancient warrior knights; the celestial Maykrs; the demonic energy called Argent; and a legend so feared that demons speak of the Slayer in hushed tones. That gothic-sci-fi lore, knights and runes alongside plasma rifles, gives Eternal and The Dark Ages their distinctive heraldic look, with Sentinel crests that make striking round rugs.
Doom Eternal and The Dark Ages
Doom Eternal turned the series into a fast, acrobatic combat puzzle, with the Slayer bouncing across arenas between Earth, Hell and the heavenly realm of Urdak. The Dark Ages, in 2025, took him back in time to a medieval, gothic war with a shield-saw and a dragon to ride. Their art, crimson skies, gothic fortresses and blazing hellscapes, makes for some of the most dramatic gaming rugs there are.
Heavy metal
Doom has always been metal. The 1993 soundtrack by Bobby Prince borrowed from metal riffs, and Mick Gordon's scores for Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal, with their crushing, down-tuned guitars and synths, became famous in their own right. A Doom rug in a music room, under a drum kit or beside a guitar amp, belongs there completely. Our guitar rugs suit the same corner.
A retro gaming corner
For collectors with old PCs and shareware floppies, a pixel-art Doom rug is the perfect floor. If your shelf also holds Halo, Call of Duty or Counter-Strike, Doom is the ancestor of them all, and deserves the center of the room.
A note for shared rooms
Doom is violent and full of demons, so think about who shares the room. The Cacodemon, the pixel-art face, the Slayer's helmet, the BFG or a UAC design keep the theme fun without anything gruesome, and the Cacodemon is surprisingly popular with younger fans.
Colors and rooms
Doom's palette is hellfire red, ember orange, gunmetal grey and the Slayer's olive green, with toxic slime green for accents. It suits a dark setup with black furniture and red lighting. Pixel-art designs bring the bright, limited colors of early PC games, which look great in a retro corner.
Sizes and levels
A Cacodemon or Slayer helmet suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug. A demon line-up, a status bar or a hellscape suits a rectangle, 4×6 or 5×7 ft. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely. For a softer rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back. See our gaming rugs for more.
Gifts
A Doom rug is a great gift for a 90s PC gamer, a speedrunner or a metalhead who loves shooters. If you aren't sure which design to choose, the Cacodemon or the Slayer's helmet is the safest choice for fans of every era of the series. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes. The design is printed into the fibers, so the reds stay as hot as Hell itself.
A note on the series
E1M1
For a generation of players, Doom begins in the same place: E1M1, Hangar, the first level of the first episode, Knee-Deep in the Dead, with Bobby Prince's track At Doom's Gate pounding in the background. Its layout, from the starting room and the zigzag walkway over the toxic sludge to the exit door, is burned into memory. A rug of the E1M1 automap, in red and yellow lines on black, is a perfect tribute for anyone who still knows where the first secret is.

FAQ
Questions about Doom Rugs

The Doom Slayer's helmet and the Cacodemon, the round red one-eyed demon that fits a round rug perfectly.
Is there a retro Doom design?
The pixel-art status-bar face from the 1993 game, with health and ammo counters, or a classic demon line-up in pixel style.
Which Doom design suits a programmer's desk?
A 'Can it run Doom?' design, playing on the long tradition of porting Doom to unlikely devices.
Does this page cover the newer Doom games?
Yes. It covers the whole series, from the 1993 original and Doom II to Doom (2016), Doom Eternal and The Dark Ages.
Is a Doom rug suitable for a shared room?
Choose the Cacodemon, the pixel-art face, the Slayer's helmet or a UAC design. They keep the theme fun without anything gruesome.
Which Doom rug goes under a gaming chair?
Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft. Hellfire red and gunmetal look right under a dark desk, and the faux leather back stops the rug from creeping when the chair rolls back fast.
How do I wash a Doom rug?
Gentle and cold in the machine, then flat to dry. The hellfire reds and toxic greens are printed into the fibers, so a Cacodemon stays as loud as the day it arrived.
Is this official Doom merchandise?
No. The Doom Slayer helmet, Cacodemons and BFG designs are our own work inspired by the games; Padrift isn't affiliated with id Software, Bethesda or Microsoft.
