About Resident Evil Rugs
Welcome to survival horror
Resident Evil, known as Biohazard in Japan, was released by Capcom in 1996, directed by Shinji Mikami, and it gave a name to a whole genre: survival horror. A team of special-forces officers takes shelter in a mansion in the woods outside Raccoon City, and discovers that the house, full of puzzles, locked doors and the walking dead, hides the experiments of the sinister Umbrella Corporation. Over the decades, the series has gone from fixed camera angles to over-the-shoulder action in Resident Evil 4, first-person horror in Resident Evil 7 and Village, and acclaimed remakes of its classics.
Resident Evil fans love its tension, its puzzles and its strange, sometimes campy charm. A Resident Evil rug brings that atmosphere into your room. Ours are printed into short velvet, so deep shadows, blood reds and the fine detail of mansion architecture come out with depth, and they go in the washing machine.
The Umbrella Corporation
Umbrella's emblem, an umbrella seen from above in alternating red and white segments, is the series' most iconic symbol: the cheerful logo of a pharmaceutical company hiding a nightmare. It's perfect for a round rug. An Umbrella emblem rug is bold, graphic and instantly recognized by fans, and it looks like a striking geometric design to anyone else, which is exactly the kind of irony the series loves.
The safe room
For many fans, the most comforting place in all of gaming is a Resident Evil safe room: a quiet room with a typewriter, an item box and calm, melancholy music, where nothing can hurt you. In the classic games, saving required an ink ribbon fed into the typewriter. A safe-room design, the typewriter and ink ribbon on a wooden desk under a lamp, is a warm, nostalgic rug for a study, and a perfect inside joke for any fan who ever rationed their ribbons.
Green and red herbs
Resident Evil's healing items are herbs, green for health, red to boost them, blue for poison, combined in an inventory that never has quite enough space. A herb design, potted green and red herbs drawn like a botanical illustration, is a clever rug for a kitchen or a plant lover's room, and it looks like simple botanical art to anyone who hasn't played. Our botanical rugs share the same look.
The Spencer Mansion
The mansion of the first game, with its grand staircase, dining hall, art galleries, hidden passages and puzzles involving crests and emblems, is one of the most famous locations in gaming. Its gothic elegance, dark wood, red carpets and portraits, makes a striking, atmospheric rug. A mansion-hall design suits a dark study or a hallway, and it reads as classic gothic architecture to visitors.
The Raccoon City police station
Resident Evil 2's police station, once an art museum, is a grand building of marble halls, statues and secret mechanisms, and the remake made it more beautiful and terrifying than ever. Its main hall, with its goddess statue, is one of the series' most recognizable images. An RPD design, the station's badge or its grand hall, is a favorite of fans of Leon and Claire's first night.
S.T.A.R.S.
The heroes of the first game are members of S.T.A.R.S., the Special Tactics and Rescue Service of the Raccoon City police, split into Alpha and Bravo teams. Their badge, with its star and lettering, appears on uniforms and in the police station, and it's one of the series' most recognizable insignia. A S.T.A.R.S. badge on a round rug is a sharp, retro emblem for long-time fans.
The item box
Every safe room has an item box, and through some mysterious logistics, whatever you place in one box can be taken out of any other. Managing a tiny inventory, with every slot precious, is part of the series' DNA. An item-box design, the trunk open with herbs, ammo and a key inside, is a clever, affectionate joke for players who spent hours deciding what to carry.
The heroes
| Character | Known for |
|---|---|
| Chris Redfield | The S.T.A.R.S. officer who never stops fighting Umbrella |
| Jill Valentine | The master of unlocking and survivor of Raccoon City |
| Leon S. Kennedy | The rookie cop turned agent, star of Resident Evil 4 |
| Claire Redfield | Chris's sister, searching for him in Raccoon City |
| Ada Wong | The mysterious spy in red |
| Ethan Winters | The everyman hero of Resident Evil 7 and Village |
Fans of the Raccoon City games often choose a design built around Leon or Claire, while fans of the newer games may prefer Ethan's story.
A portrait of a favorite hero makes a personal rug; Leon, in his Resident Evil 4 jacket, is especially popular.
Villains and monsters
Resident Evil's villains are as iconic as its heroes: Albert Wesker in his sunglasses; the relentless Tyrants, Mr. X and Nemesis, stalking players through Raccoon City; and Lady Dimitrescu, the towering vampire matriarch of Village who became an internet sensation. A villain design suits a fan who loves the series' theatrical side, and Lady Dimitrescu's castle makes a particularly elegant, gothic rug.
Resident Evil 4's village
Resident Evil 4, first released in 2005 and remade in 2023, sent Leon to a remote village in Spain to rescue the president's daughter, with a merchant in a long coat who sells weapons from his case. Its rustic, sun-baked village and gothic castle look completely different from Raccoon City. An attaché-case design, weapons neatly arranged inside, is a beloved inside joke for anyone who played inventory Tetris with it.
The Baker house
Resident Evil 7, in 2017, brought the series back to its horror roots in first person, trapping Ethan Winters in a decaying plantation house in rural Louisiana with the terrifying Baker family. Its grimy kitchens, creaking hallways and swampy grounds gave the series a new, grounded kind of dread. A Baker-house design, the old house under a stormy sky, is a moody choice for fans of the modern era.
On screen
Resident Evil has also had a long life on screen, from a series of live-action films beginning in 2002 to animated movies and television series. For fans who came to the story through the films, a design with a cinematic look, Raccoon City burning at night, suits a home theater as well as a game room.
Puzzles and keys
The series is full of puzzles: crests, emblems, chess pieces, medallions and keys marked with symbols like spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. Fans remember them fondly. A key-and-crest design, ornate keys on a dark ground, is an elegant, almost antique rug that suits a study or library.
The safe-room music
The gentle, melancholy safe-room themes are some of the most beloved pieces of game music, instantly calming for anyone who heard them after a terrifying hallway. A safe-room rug in a reading nook, with a warm lamp and a quiet playlist, captures that feeling of relief absolutely perfectly.
A note on the content
Resident Evil is horror, with zombies, monsters and gore. For a shared room or anywhere younger children might see it, the Umbrella emblem, the typewriter, the herbs, a mansion hall or the RPD badge keep the theme without anything frightening. Save the Tyrants for your own game room.
A horror game room
Resident Evil sits at the center of the survival-horror genre. If your shelf also holds Silent Hill, Dead Space or The Last of Us, a Resident Evil rug ties the collection together. Our horror rugs and Halloween rugs have more ideas, and the full range is in our gaming rugs.
Colors and rooms
Resident Evil's palette is dark and dramatic: black, deep red, dark wood, marble white and the green of herbs. The Umbrella emblem in red and white suits a modern setup; mansion and safe-room designs suit a darker, more classic room with warm lighting.
Sizes and levels
The Umbrella emblem or a herb suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug. The safe room, the mansion hall or the RPD suits a rectangle, 4×6 or 5×7 ft. Under a gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely. For a softer rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back.
Gifts
A Resident Evil rug is a great gift for a horror fan, a long-time player of the PlayStation originals or a friend who loved the remakes. If you aren't sure which design to choose, the Umbrella emblem is the safest, since it has haunted every game in the series in one way or another. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes. The design is printed into the fibers, so the reds stay deep, no ink ribbon required.
A note on the series
Village and the castle
Resident Evil Village, released in 2021, sent Ethan Winters to a snowy Eastern European village ruled by four lords, including the towering Lady Dimitrescu in her gothic castle. Its candlelit halls, wine cellars and golden ballrooms are among the series' most elegant settings. A rug of an ornate castle floor in deep red and gold, with a hint of something lurking in the pattern, is a beautiful, eerie design for a horror fan's room.
