About Cyberpunk Rugs
High tech, low life
Cyberpunk is a vision of the future that has fascinated people for more than forty years: towering megacities, neon signs in the rain, giant corporations, street samurai with chrome implants and hackers who live half their lives inside the network. It took shape in the early 1980s, in William Gibson's novel Neuromancer, Ridley Scott's film Blade Runner and Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, and it has never stopped evolving. In 2020, CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 brought the genre to millions of players.
Neon pink and electric blue on black is the classic cyberpunk palette, and it glows best under LED strip lighting in a dark room.
A cyberpunk rug brings that electric, rain-soaked look into a room, and it's one of the best themes there is for a gaming setup lit with RGB. Ours are printed into short velvet, so neon pinks, cyans and yellows glow against deep blacks, and fine circuit and glitch detail stays crisp, and they go in the washing machine.
Night City
Cyberpunk 2077 is set in Night City, a sprawling metropolis on the coast of a fractured California, ruled by corporations and gangs. Each district has its own character: the corporate towers of City Center, the neon markets of Japantown in Westbrook, the industrial sprawl of Watson, the gang territory of Pacifica and Heywood, and the desert Badlands beyond the city walls. A Night City skyline, glittering towers and holographic ads under a purple sky, is the signature cyberpunk rug, and it turns a gaming corner into a view from a megabuilding window.
V and Johnny Silverhand
Players take the role of V, a mercenary with a deadly problem: a biochip carrying the digital ghost of Johnny Silverhand, a rockerboy terrorist from fifty years earlier, played by Keanu Reeves. Their uneasy partnership is the heart of the story. A Johnny Silverhand design, aviators, a chrome arm and a guitar, is the most iconic character rug, and it suits a music corner as well as a gaming setup.
Samurai
Johnny's band, Samurai, has its own logo, its own songs and a devoted following among players, who can hear the band's music throughout the game. A Samurai band design, the stylized logo in red on black, is a bold, rock-and-roll rug that looks like classic band merchandise to anyone who hasn't played.
The characters of Night City
- Jackie Welles, V's loyal partner and best friend.
- Judy Alvarez, the braindance technician with a big heart.
- Panam Palmer, the nomad from the Badlands.
- Kerry Eurodyne, the aging rock star; River Ward, the detective; Goro Takemura, the honorable bodyguard.
- Songbird and Solomon Reed from the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Fans often have a favorite companion or romance, and a portrait in the game's neon style makes a personal centerpiece.
Arasaka and the corporations
In cyberpunk, corporations are more powerful than governments, and Cyberpunk 2077's are as recognizable as real brands: Arasaka, the Japanese security giant whose tower dominates the skyline; Militech, the American arms maker; Kang Tao, Biotechnica and others. A corporate-logo design, the Arasaka emblem in red on black, has a sleek, dystopian look that suits a minimalist setup and a fan who enjoys the irony.
The interface
Cyberpunk 2077's interface, sharp yellow and cyan text, scanner overlays and glitching menus, is part of its identity, and glitch art, those broken, displaced, scan-line images, has become a cyberpunk aesthetic of its own. A glitch design, a pattern of shifting lines and corrupted color on black, is a striking, abstract rug that looks modern and graphic even to people who don't play.
Chrome and cyberware
In Night City, people upgrade their bodies: mantis blades in the arms, optical implants, reinforced skeletons, all installed by back-alley ripperdocs. Netrunners dive into the network to hack enemies and systems. A cyberware design, a chrome arm in blueprint style or a netrunner surrounded by streams of code, is a sharp, technical rug for a tech-lover's desk.
Braindance
In Night City, people relive other people's recorded experiences through braindance, a technology that lets you feel exactly what someone else felt. Investigating braindance recordings, scrubbing back and forth through a scene in red, blue and yellow layers, is one of the game's most distinctive mechanics. A braindance-inspired design, layered translucent color over a city scene, is a clever, artistic rug for fans who loved the detective side of the story.
Cars and bikes
Night City is a driving city, full of muscle cars, hypercars and motorcycles. Johnny Silverhand's classic 1977 sports car is famous among players, along with the Quadra muscle cars, the Rayfield Caliburn and the Yaiba Kusanagi bike inspired by the one in Akira. A vehicle design, a car parked under neon or a bike in blueprint style, is a great rug for a garage den, a car lover's bedroom or a racing-sim corner.
Japantown
Westbrook's Japantown is Night City at its most beautiful: paper lanterns, cherry trees, noodle stalls, karaoke bars and towering holographic geisha advertisements. Its blend of traditional Japanese motifs and futuristic neon makes for one of the most striking cyberpunk designs, and it pairs naturally with our Edgerunners page.
Phantom Liberty and the turnaround
Cyberpunk 2077's launch in 2020 was famously troubled, but CD Projekt Red spent years fixing and expanding it, and the 2023 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion, set in the walled district of Dogtown, turned it into one of the most acclaimed games of its generation. For players who came back and fell in love, Dogtown's grimy neon and the tense spy story of Phantom Liberty make a great design choice.
The roots of the genre
Cyberpunk 2077 is based on Mike Pondsmith's tabletop role-playing game Cyberpunk, first published in 1988 and later known as Cyberpunk 2020, which tabletop players still enjoy today. The wider genre has its classics too: Blade Runner's rain and neon, Ghost in the Shell's philosophy, Akira's Neo-Tokyo. If those are your touchstones, see our Akira rugs, Ghost in the Shell rugs and the animated Cyberpunk: Edgerunners rugs.
Synthwave and the sound of the future
Cyberpunk has a sound as well as a look: pulsing synths, industrial beats and the retro-futurist synthwave that has grown up around the genre. Night City's radio stations play everything from rock to hip-hop to electronic music. A neon design in a music corner, beside a synthesizer or a pair of headphones on a stand, finishes the scene.
Neon and rain
Nothing says cyberpunk like neon reflected in rain: pink and cyan signs in Japanese and English, puddles full of color, steam rising from street vents. A neon-rain design, a wet street at night glowing with signs, is the genre's most atmospheric rug, and it doesn't need a single character to be instantly recognizable.
An RGB setup
Cyberpunk is the perfect theme for an RGB gaming setup. Match the room's lighting to the rug, pink and cyan for neon streets, yellow for the 2077 interface, red for Arasaka, and keep the furniture black so the colors glow. Under the gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely and stays put. See our gaming rugs and desk chair rugs for more.
Bedrooms and living rooms
A cyberpunk skyline also makes a striking rug for a bedroom or a living room with a modern, urban style. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, for softness, and pair it with dark walls, a few plants and warm accent lighting so the room feels like a high-rise apartment above the city rather than a nightclub.
Colors and rooms
The cyberpunk palette is black and deep navy, electric pink, cyan, purple and acid yellow. It's bold, so give it dark, simple surroundings. A single neon accent, a sign or an LED strip in one of the rug's colors, ties the room together. For a calmer look, a monochrome design in black and cyan is easier to live with day to day.
Sizes and levels
A Night City skyline suits a rectangle, 4×6 or 5×7 ft. A Samurai or corporate logo suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug. A glitch pattern works at any size. Choose Standard under a gaming chair, Premium in a bedroom or in front of a couch.
Gifts
A cyberpunk rug is a great gift for a Cyberpunk 2077 fan, a Blade Runner devotee or anyone building a neon-lit setup. If you aren't sure which design to choose, a Night City skyline is the safest. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes. The design is printed into the fibers, so the neon stays bright.
A note on the game
Night City's districts
Night City is divided into districts with very different moods: Watson's crowded markets, Westbrook's glossy Japantown and its rich hills, City Center's corporate towers, Heywood's suburbs and gang turf, Pacifica's abandoned resorts and Santo Domingo's factories, with the Badlands desert beyond. Phantom Liberty added Dogtown, a walled-off district of its own. A map of all of them, in neon lines on black, makes a striking rug for anyone who has driven every street.
