About Hades Rugs
Escape from the Underworld
Hades, from the small San Francisco studio Supergiant Games, launched in full in 2020 after a period of early access, and it became one of the most acclaimed games of its generation, even winning a Hugo Award, a first for a video game. Players are Zagreus, the rebellious son of Hades, trying again and again to fight his way out of the Underworld, through Tartarus, Asphodel and Elysium, to reach the surface. Every time he dies, he wakes back up at home, a little stronger and with more of the story revealed.
Hades is beloved for its fast combat, sharp writing and gorgeous art, and for a cast of Greek gods and heroes that feel like family. In 2025 its sequel, Hades II, starring Zagreus's sister Melinoë, completed its own journey out of early access. A Hades rug brings that bold, mythological world into your room. Ours are printed into short velvet, so the series' strong outlines, glowing reds and deep shadows come out crisp, and they go in the washing machine.
Zagreus
Zagreus, with his laurel wreath, flaming feet and red-and-black cape, is charming, stubborn and endlessly determined. His story, about a son trying to understand his family, gives Hades its heart. A Zagreus design, sword drawn against the fires of Tartarus, is the signature Hades rug, and a bold centerpiece for a gaming room.
Cerberus
The three-headed guard dog of the Underworld is, in Hades, a very good boy who lies in the hall of the House of Hades waiting to be petted, and players pet him at every opportunity. A Cerberus design, three happy heads and a wagging tail, is a funny, affectionate rug for a dog lover who plays, and our dog rugs have more faithful companions.
The Olympians and their boons
Zagreus's relatives on Mount Olympus help his escape with boons, blessings tied to their powers, each with its own symbol and color:
- Zeus, lightning in gold.
- Poseidon, waves in sea blue.
- Athena, shields in silver and gold.
- Aphrodite, hearts in pink.
- Ares, blades in crimson.
- Artemis, arrows in green.
- Dionysus, wine in purple, Demeter, frost in pale blue, and Hermes, speed in gold and white.
A boon design, a single god's symbol on a round rug, is an elegant, graphic choice, and a ring of all their symbols makes a beautiful, almost heraldic centerpiece.
The House of Hades
Between escape attempts, Zagreus returns home to the House of Hades, a grand hall of red velvet, black marble and gold, where the god of the dead sits at his desk doing paperwork, Nyx watches from the shadows, Achilles trains in the courtyard and the staff gossip by the lounge. A House of Hades design, the great hall in crimson and gold, is a rich, opulent rug that suits a dark living room or study.
The realms of the Underworld
| Realm | Look | Room it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Tartarus | Dark stone halls, red light | A dramatic game room |
| Asphodel | Rivers of lava, burning islands | A bold, warm room |
| Elysium | Golden fields, green meadows, heroic shades | A bright living room |
| The Temple of Styx | Poisonous green, winding tunnels | A moody, dark setup |
Elysium's bright greens and golds suit a living room, while the reds of Tartarus work in a dramatic game room with dark walls.
Elysium, with its gentle gold-and-green fields, is the calmest and most surprising choice for a Hades fan's room.
Greek vases
Hades is drawn from Greek mythology, and one of the most beautiful ways to bring it home is through the art of ancient Greece itself: red-figure and black-figure vases, with figures in terracotta and black, framed by meander borders. A rug in that style, Zagreus or Cerberus drawn like a figure on an amphora, is an elegant, witty design that looks like a museum piece to visitors. A Greek key border around the edge completes the classical look.
The Infernal Arms
Zagreus can choose from six legendary weapons, the Infernal Arms: the Stygian Blade, the Heart-Seeking Bow, the Shield of Chaos, the Eternal Spear, the Twin Fists of Malphon and the Adamant Rail, each with hidden aspects tied to heroes and gods of myth. Players tend to have a favorite. A weapon design, the blade or the bow glowing on a dark ground, is a sharp, graphic rug for a setup.
Dying, again and again
Hades turned failure into storytelling. Every death sends Zagreus back home through the River Styx, where characters react, relationships deepen and the story moves forward. Players came to look forward to dying almost as much as winning. A design of the pool of blood in the House of Hades, Zagreus rising from it once more, is a clever, darkly funny tribute to that idea.
Keepsakes and Nectar
Gifting a bottle of Nectar to a character earns a keepsake in return, a small token tied to them that changes how your runs play: Cerberus's old spiked collar, Megaera's skull earring, Achilles's Myrmidon bracer, Thanatos's pierced butterfly. A keepsake design, a scattering of these small, meaningful objects, is a delicate rug for fans who maxed every relationship.
The cast
Hades's characters are one of its greatest strengths: Megaera, Alecto and Tisiphone, the Furies; Thanatos, the god of death; Dusa, the cheerful gorgon maid; Hypnos, always asleep at the front desk; Achilles and Patroclus, whose story moved many players to tears; Orpheus and Eurydice; Sisyphus and his boulder, Bouldy; and Charon, the boatman who runs a shop. A design of a favorite pairing, Achilles and Patroclus in Elysium, or Orpheus with his lyre, is a meaningful choice for fans who followed every relationship.
Hades II and Melinoë
Hades II follows Melinoë, Zagreus's younger sister, a witch trained by Hecate to fight Chronos, the Titan of Time, who has taken over the Underworld. Its look adds moonlight, witchcraft and the surface of Greece to the series' palette: silver, violet and deep night blue. A Melinoë design, with her staff and crescent moon, is a beautiful, mystical rug, and a natural pair for a Zagreus one.
Hecate and the Crossroads
In Hades II, Melinoë's home is the Crossroads, a hidden camp in the woods of Erebus run by her mentor Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, with cauldrons, moonlit trees and a gathering of exiled shades and gods. Its silver-and-violet palette, firelight and crescent moons make one of the most atmospheric designs in the series, perfect for a bedroom or a cozy corner with candles.
The art of Jen Zee
Supergiant's art director, Jen Zee, gave Hades its distinctive look: bold black outlines, confident painted color and characters with striking silhouettes, closer to a graphic novel than to typical game art. That style prints beautifully on a rug, staying crisp and readable from across the room.
The music
Darren Korb's soundtrack, a mix of Mediterranean strings and heavy rock, with vocals by Ashley Barrett on songs like "In the Blood", is one of the most loved in indie gaming. A Hades rug in a music corner, beside a guitar or a pair of speakers, is a fitting tribute. Our guitar rugs suit the same corner.
An indie shelf
Hades is one of the great independent games, alongside Hollow Knight, Cuphead and Stardew Valley. A shelf of indie favorites with a Hades rug on the floor makes a gaming room feel personal. Mythology fans will also like our God of War rugs, which began in the same Greek myths.
A setup
Under the gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely and stays put through a frantic run. Pair a Hades rug with red and gold accent lighting, a laurel wreath on the shelf and a Cerberus plush.
Colors and rooms
Hades's palette is crimson, black and gold, with each god's color as an accent and Hades II's silver and violet moonlight. Red-and-black designs suit a dramatic room; Greek-vase terracotta suits a warm, classical one; Elysium's gold and green suits a bright space.
Sizes and levels
A boon symbol or Cerberus suits a 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm) round rug. Zagreus, the House of Hades or a realm landscape suits a rectangle, 4×6 or 5×7 ft. For a living room or bedroom, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back.
Gifts
A Hades rug is a great gift for a friend who has escaped the Underworld a hundred times, or a mythology lover who plays. If you aren't sure which design to choose, Cerberus or Zagreus is the safest. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes. The design is printed into the fibers, so the crimson stays bright.
A note on the games
Skelly
In the courtyard of the House of Hades stands Skelly, a cheerful skeleton training dummy who loves being hit and offers encouragement and the odd prize. A rug of Skelly with a thumbs-up, on dark stone with a crimson border, is a funny, friendly design for a gaming corner, and a small tribute to the game's most supportive character.
