About Vinyl Record Rugs
Drop the needle
There's something about vinyl: the sleeve art, the ritual of lowering the needle, the warm crackle before the first song. A vinyl record rug celebrates all of it. A round rug printed as a giant black LP, with grooves catching the light and a bright label at the center, is one of the most satisfying shaped designs there is, and because a record is already a circle, nothing is cropped or compromised. Every rug is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.
Vinyl designs
| Design | The look | Best in |
|---|---|---|
| Classic black LP | Glossy grooves and a colored label | Listening corners, living rooms |
| Custom label | Your name, a song title or a date at the center | Gifts, weddings, anniversaries |
| Splatter vinyl | Colored vinyl with paint-splash swirls | Teen rooms, studios |
| 45 adapter | The yellow three-spoke insert | Retro rooms, home bars |
| Turntable from above | A record player with tonearm and platter | Record rooms, studios |
| Cassette tapes | Mixtapes and handwritten labels | 1980s and 1990s rooms |
The classic black LP is the most versatile design and suits a living room listening corner, while splatter vinyl brings color to a teen room.
The round record rug
A giant LP on a round rug is the star of this collection. The black vinyl, the fine rings of grooves and the label in the middle all fit the circle exactly. On a 3.9 to 5.2 ft (120 to 160 cm) rug, it's a bold centerpiece in front of a record cabinet; on a 5.9 ft (180 cm) rug, it can anchor a whole listening area. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across and show each size in a room.
A short history of the LP
In 1948, Columbia Records introduced the 12-inch long-playing record, spinning at 33⅓ revolutions per minute and holding around twenty minutes of music per side, far more than the brittle shellac 78s that came before. A year later, RCA Victor answered with the 7-inch single at 45 rpm, with its large center hole, perfect for jukeboxes. Each side of a record holds a single continuous spiral groove, which, if you could unwind it, would stretch for hundreds of yards.
The vinyl revival
After decades of cassettes, CDs and then streaming, vinyl came back. Record Store Day, an annual celebration of independent record shops, began in 2008, and vinyl sales in the United States have climbed for well over a decade since. In 2020, records outsold CDs in the US for the first time since the 1980s. A record rug is a fitting tribute for a new generation of collectors and the old hands who never sold their albums.
Custom labels
The center label is where a record rug becomes personal. A custom label can carry your name, your family name, your record room's name, a favorite song title or a special date. For a wedding or an anniversary, a record with the couple's names, the title of their first dance song and the wedding date at the center makes a heartfelt gift. Song titles are fine to print; please don't send lyrics or album artwork you don't own. Check names, dates and spelling carefully before ordering, as custom rugs can't be returned.
Splatter and colored vinyl
Collectors love special pressings in colored vinyl: translucent red, marbled blue, or splatter vinyl with flecks and swirls of contrasting color. A splatter-vinyl rug in neon pink and black, or a swirl of teal and gold, is a fun, modern design for a teen room, a dorm or a creative studio.
The 45 adapter
To play a 7-inch single with its big center hole on a standard turntable spindle, you need a little plastic insert, often bright yellow with three spokes. That humble adapter has become an icon of record culture in its own right. A rug in its shape, or a design built around it, is a playful nod for anyone who's flipped through a box of 45s.
Turntables
A rug showing a turntable from above, the platter, the record, the tonearm resting in the groove, is a striking, graphic design for a record room or a DJ's studio. It works especially well as a rectangle, in front of a real turntable setup, so the rug and the gear echo each other.
Listening corners
A listening corner needs only a few things: a record player, a shelf of albums, a comfortable chair, a good pair of speakers and a rug to pull it together. A record rug in front of the cabinet, with a lamp and a side table for the sleeve, makes it feel like a destination. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², if you'll sit on the floor flipping through crates.
Turntables and vibration
Turntables are sensitive to footsteps on bouncy floors, which can make the needle skip. A rug softens footfall a little, though the best fix is a solid stand or a wall shelf for the turntable itself. On hard floors, a rug also reduces some of the echo in the room, which can make music sound a bit warmer.
Cassettes and mixtapes
For those who grew up making mixtapes, a rug of cassette tapes with handwritten labels, pencil-rewind loops and colorful shells is pure nostalgia. It suits a 1980s or 1990s-themed room, a dorm, a home bar or a car-loving teen who just discovered tape decks. For more from those decades, see our retro rugs.
Mid-century record rooms
Record players and mid-century furniture belong together: a teak credenza, a low armchair, a sunburst clock. A black LP rug or a turntable design looks right at home in that kind of room. For more from the era, see our mid-century modern rugs.
Home studios and DJ booths
For DJs and producers, a turntable or splatter-vinyl rug under the decks defines the booth. Under a rolling studio chair, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put and lets the wheels roll. Our office and studio rugs page has more setups.
Man caves and home bars
In a man cave or a home bar, a record rug next to a jukebox-style cabinet or a wall of framed album covers sets the mood. Our man cave rugs page has more ideas.
Bedrooms and teen rooms
For a teenager who's just started collecting, a record rug beside the bed, under a shelf of their first albums, makes the room feel like theirs. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Displaying your collection
Many collectors display a few favorite albums face-out on picture ledges or in frames, rotating them with their mood. A record rug below that kind of display ties the whole wall together. Keep the rug simple, a black LP or a single colored vinyl, so the album art stays the star, and leave enough floor in front of the shelves to kneel and flip through crates.
Hallways and entryways
Just inside the front door, a small round record rug tells guests there's music in the house; keep it indoors, out of the weather. Down a hallway, a custom runner with a row of records or a stretch of cassette tape running its length is a fun, unexpected design. Choose Standard for both, for its grip on hard floors.
Colors
The classic record rug is glossy black with a red, yellow or white label. Colored vinyl opens up everything else: translucent red, ocean blue, marbled green or splatter in any combination. For a living room, black and cream feels timeless.

Gifts
A record rug is a great gift for a collector, a DJ, a music teacher or a couple with a special song. A custom label with their name or their first dance song is the most personal choice.
Your own record
Want a record with your family name as the label, your wedding song title and date or your own band's name? Our custom rugs can print it on a round rug or in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; album covers and record company logos belong to their owners. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft, and custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the grooves stay sharp, wash after wash, side A and side B.
33, 45 and 78
Records spin at different speeds, and each one tells a piece of music history. The earliest discs, made of brittle shellac, played at 78 revolutions per minute and held only a few minutes of music per side. In 1948, Columbia introduced the 12-inch long-playing record at 33 and a third rpm, which could hold a whole album, and in 1949 RCA Victor answered with the 7-inch single at 45 rpm, with its wide center hole made for jukeboxes.
Since 2008, Record Store Day has celebrated independent shops each spring with special releases, and it helped fuel the vinyl revival. A rug that shows all three speeds, a big LP, a small 45 with its adapter and an old 78 label, side by side, is a smart design for a collector's listening room.
