About Marble Rugs
The look of stone, the feel of velvet
Marble has been the material of palaces, temples and grand hotels for thousands of years, and a marble rug brings that elegance into a room without the cold, hard floor. Picture white Carrara with soft grey veins under a coffee table, black marble with fine gold veins in a dressing room or a round rug like a polished slice of agate. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so every vein is crisp and every gradient smooth, and the whole rug goes in your washing machine.

What marble is
Marble is a metamorphic rock: limestone transformed by heat and pressure deep underground, over millions of years, into a crystalline stone. Minerals and impurities create its veins and colors, which is why no two slabs are ever identical. Some of the most famous marble comes from Carrara in Tuscany, where Michelangelo chose the white stone for his sculptures, including the David. A marble rug captures that natural variation in a form you can walk on barefoot.
White marble
White marble is the most versatile marble rug. Soft Carrara white with delicate grey veins suits almost any modern room, from a minimal living room to a calm bedroom, and it brightens a dark floor. A bolder white with dramatic grey and gold veining makes more of a statement, especially in an entryway or under a glass coffee table. Pair it with black metal, brass, linen and a few green plants.
Black and gold marble
Black marble with gold or white veins feels luxurious and dramatic, the look of a high-end hotel lobby or a jewelry boutique. A black and gold marble rug suits a dressing room, a glamorous bedroom or a home office with brass lamps and dark wood. Because ours are printed, the gold is a rich printed color rather than metallic thread, warm and clean rather than shiny. For more glamorous designs, see our art deco rugs.
Green and pink marble
Colored marbles have become a favorite of designers. Deep green marble with pale veins feels rich and traditional, perfect for a library, a dining room or a room with velvet and brass. Soft pink marble with rose and white veins feels warm and romantic, a lovely choice for a bedroom, a vanity corner or a pastel nursery.
Terrazzo
Terrazzo, a speckled material made by setting chips of marble and other stone in a binder, has its roots in Venice, where builders made floors from leftover marble pieces centuries ago. It's back in fashion in a big way, especially in playful colors. A terrazzo rug, colorful chips on cream or white, is fun, modern and forgiving of everyday crumbs, a great fit for a kitchen, a studio or a kid-friendly living room.
Marbled paper and swirls
Marbling is also an art form: floating colors on water and combing them into swirls, then laying paper on top to capture the pattern. The Turkish tradition of paper marbling, known as ebru, is recognized by UNESCO as part of the world's intangible cultural heritage. A marbled-swirl rug, flowing colors like ink in water, is artistic and calming, at home in a creative studio or a modern living room. For more flowing designs, see our wavy rugs.
Agate slices
A slice of agate, with its concentric bands of color around a sparkling center, is one of nature's most beautiful patterns, and it's made for a round rug. Our round rugs, from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, can carry an agate or geode design in blues, purples, pinks or earthy browns, a striking centerpiece for a reading corner or an entryway. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room, and our shaped rugs can even follow the irregular outline of a stone slice.
Why a marble rug
Real marble floors are beautiful, but they're also cold in winter, hard under bare feet and a little slippery when wet, and they need regular sealing to resist stains. A marble rug gives you the same elegant look with none of those trade-offs: it's soft and warm underfoot, light enough to move between rooms and machine washable when something spills. It's also a far easier way to bring the look of stone into a rental, where changing the floors isn't an option.
Kitchens
In a kitchen with stone or quartz counters, a marble or terrazzo rug in front of the sink or the island echoes the surfaces beautifully. Terrazzo, with its scattered chips, is especially practical, since it hides crumbs between cleanings. Choose Standard, which grips the floor and goes in the washing machine after spills. Our kitchen rugs have more ideas.
Calm, minimal rooms
For a minimalist room, a soft white or pale grey marble rug adds texture and quiet interest without introducing a busy pattern. Pair it with white walls, a low sofa, pale wood and one or two sculptural objects, and the room will feel serene and finished.
Gifts
A marble rug makes a stylish housewarming gift for a new apartment, a dorm upgrade or a friend redecorating a bedroom. White Carrara is the safest choice; black and gold is the most glamorous.
Living rooms
A marble area rug under a coffee table gives a living room an instant sense of polish. White marble suits a bright, minimal room; black marble suits a dramatic, moody one. A 5×7 ft rug is our largest standard size; custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. For the softest feel underfoot, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our living room rugs page has more layouts.
Bedrooms and dressing rooms
Beside a bed or in front of a vanity, a marble rug feels like a boutique hotel. Pink marble suits a soft, romantic room; black and gold suits a glamorous one; white suits a calm, minimal one. Our bedroom rugs page has more ideas.
Bathrooms
A marble rug in a bathroom echoes stone counters and tiles beautifully, and it's warmer underfoot than the real thing. One honest note: our rugs are printed velvet, not thick, quick-drying bath mats, so place one by the vanity or the door, rather than right where you step out of the shower. Choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², for its grip on tiles.
Offices
A white or black marble rug under a desk gives a home office a polished, professional look. Under a desk chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft, which stays put and lets wheels roll freely.
Pairing marble with other materials
Marble pairs naturally with brass, gold, glass, black metal, velvet and pale wood. In a room with real marble, a coffee table or a fireplace, a marble rug in a complementary color ties everything together. Avoid matching the real stone exactly; a slightly different tone, or a softer veining, looks more intentional. For more modern designs, see our geometric rugs and the full range of abstract and modern rugs.
Your own stone
Want a marble in your exact colors, matched to your countertops, or a photo of your own favorite stone? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best for bathrooms, kitchens, offices and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in living rooms and bedrooms. Both are printed the same way, so veins stay fine and colors stay true, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. We don't make 8×10 rugs. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. Unlike real marble, it won't stain from a spilled glass of wine, and it never needs sealing.
Famous marbles of the world
Marble lovers know their stones by name. Carrara, from the Apuan Alps in Tuscany, is the classic white with soft gray veining, the stone Michelangelo used for his David. Calacatta, from the same region, is rarer, whiter and boldly veined in gray and gold, while Statuario has a bright white base with dramatic gray veins prized for sculpture and luxury bathrooms.
Other marbles bring color. Nero Marquina from northern Spain is deep black with crisp white veins. Emperador, also Spanish, is a warm chocolate brown with lighter veining. Verde Guatemala is a dark green stone streaked with white, and Rosa Portogallo, from Portugal, glows a soft, creamy pink.
Each one inspires a different rug. A Calacatta-look rug with gold veins brings luxury to a bathroom vanity area or a dressing room. A Nero Marquina design is striking in a modern living room with brass or chrome. An Emperador brown feels warm and classic in a study, and a rosy Portuguese pink is soft and elegant in a bedroom.
Because a printed marble rug is velvet rather than stone, it brings the look without the cold or the weight, warm underfoot and easy to wash, while still echoing the counters, tiles or tabletops in the room.
For a kitchen with real stone counters, a matching marble rug ties the floor to the surfaces without the cold underfoot.
FAQ
Questions about Marble Rugs
Are marble rugs machine washable?

Which marble styles do you offer?
White Carrara, bold white with dramatic veins, black and gold, green, pink, terrazzo, marbled-paper swirls and agate slices.
Is the gold in black and gold marble rugs metallic?

Yes. Agate and geode designs on round rugs from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm), or cut to the irregular outline of a stone slice.
Can I use a marble rug in the bathroom?
Yes: a white Carrara or black-and-gold rug by the vanity looks like part of the stone. Keep it outside the splash zone, since it's velvet rather than a quick-drying bath mat, and choose Standard for grip.
What is a terrazzo rug?
A rug printed with colorful stone chips on a pale ground, inspired by the speckled terrazzo floors that began in Venice.
Can I match a marble rug to my countertops?
Yes. Send a photo of your countertop and we'll print a marble with matching veins and tones on a custom rug up to 5′11″ × 10′. Custom rugs can't be returned.
Do you make 8×10 marble rugs?
No. Our largest standard marble rug is 5×7 ft, and custom rugs reach 5′11″ × 10′, which also suits a long Carrara or terrazzo runner.
