About Dog Rugs

For dogs, and the people who love them

A dog rug does two jobs. It's decor for dog lovers, a portrait of your own dog, a favorite breed, a trail of paw prints, and it's a practical rug for a home with a dog in it, where muddy paws, slippery floors, food bowls and naps in the sun are part of daily life. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so fur and faces come out with fine detail, and every one of them goes in the washing machine. If you have a dog, that last part may be the most important sentence on this page.

A rug of your own dog

The most loved dog rug is a portrait of your own dog. Send us a clear photo, and our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, as a round rug up to 5.9 ft (180 cm), or cut to your dog's outline as a shaped rug. Add their name if you like, or their birthday. It's a wonderful gift for a new dog parent and a meaningful way to remember a dog who has passed. For the best result, use a photo taken in good natural light, with your dog filling most of the frame and their eyes in focus. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned, so please check the photo and the spelling of the name before ordering.

A bone-shaped rug under food and water bowls catches the crumbs, and it goes straight into the washing machine.

Breeds

Every breed has its fans, and many have their own look on a rug. Labrador and Golden Retrievers are warm and friendly in gold and chocolate tones. French Bulldogs, with their bat ears, became America's most registered breed in 2022, ending the Labrador's long run at the top. Dachshunds, bred in Germany to hunt badgers, make a perfect long, low shape for a runner. Corgis, the short-legged favorites of Queen Elizabeth II, are cheerful in orange and white. Pugs, beagles, poodles, huskies, German Shepherds and Bernese Mountain Dogs all make charming designs. If your breed isn't shown, a custom rug can feature it, mixed breeds included.

Muddy paws and the front door

Dogs bring the outside in. A rug just inside the front door, or in a mudroom, catches muddy paws and wet fur before they reach the rest of the house, and when it's done its job, it goes in the washing machine. Our rugs are for indoor use, so keep it inside the door rather than out in the weather. A 2×3 or 2.6×3.9 ft rug works well; a paw print design or a "wipe your paws" message makes the point with a smile. Choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put when an excited dog bursts through the door.

Slippery floors

Many dogs, especially puppies and older dogs, struggle on smooth hardwood, laminate or tile floors, where their paws can slide. Rugs in the places your dog walks most, a hallway, the space beside your bed, the spot in front of the sofa, give them something softer to walk and rest on. Choose Standard for these: its non-slip back keeps the rug from sliding as your dog steps on and off. A long, narrow custom runner, up to 10 ft, can cover a hallway your dog uses every day.

Under the food and water bowls

Food and water bowls are messy. A small rug beneath them, a bone-shaped rug or a simple 2×3 ft rug with a paw print design, catches splashes and spilled kibble, and it goes in the washing machine when it needs it. Lift it to wipe the floor underneath now and then, especially under the water bowl, and choose Standard so it doesn't slide when your dog pushes their bowl around. It also suits a kitchen corner; our kitchen rugs have more ideas.

A favorite nap spot

Dogs love a soft spot of their own: beside the bed, under the desk, in front of the fireplace or in a sunny corner. A round rug, 3.3 to 4.6 ft (100 to 140 cm), or a dog-shaped rug makes a cozy place for them to settle, and it protects the floor beneath their bed or crate. For softness, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.

Shaped dog rugs

Our shaped rugs are cut to the outline of the design, in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). A bone shape suits a feeding area; a sitting dog or a curled-up dog suits a bedside; your own dog's outline, from a photo, is the most personal option of all.

Puppies

A washable rug is a lifesaver with a new puppy. Accidents happen, and when they do, the rug goes in the washing machine on a gentle, cold cycle. One honest note: puppies chew, and a determined puppy may chew the edge of any rug, so keep an eye on them while they're young and offer plenty of chew toys instead.

Pet hair

Pet hair lifts off our short velvet with a vacuum on a low setting. Between washes, a quick pass with a rubber pet hair brush also works well. A design with a busy pattern, like paw prints or a breed pattern, helps disguise a little hair between cleanings.

Older dogs

As dogs age, smooth floors can become harder for them. Stiff joints make it tricky to stand up from a lying position or to turn on a slick surface. A few well-placed rugs, where your dog sleeps, eats and walks between rooms, can make the house feel more comfortable for them. Choose Standard where grip matters most, and a soft Premium rug for their favorite resting place.

Choosing a dog-friendly color

A simple trick from people who live with dogs: choose a rug in colors close to your dog's coat. A cream or gold rug hides the hair of a Golden Retriever; a grey or charcoal rug suits a black lab or a husky; a patterned rug hides a little of everything. You'll still vacuum and wash it, but it will look tidier in between.

Dalmatians and spots

Dalmatians have a long association with firehouses, dating back to the days of horse-drawn fire carriages, when they ran alongside the horses and guarded the station. Their black spots on white make a striking, playful rug pattern on their own, a favorite for children's rooms and modern spaces alike.

For dog lovers' rooms

You don't need a dog to love a dog rug. A playful breed pattern suits a child's bedroom or a nursery; a sleek, illustrated portrait of a Dalmatian or a whippet suits a modern living room; a dachshund-shaped runner suits a hallway. Our bedroom rugs and kids and nursery rugs pages have more ideas.

Famous dogs

If your favorite dog is a famous one, we have pages for them too: Snoopy, the Bluey family, Scooby-Doo and the pups of Paw Patrol.

Dogs and cats

If your home has both, our cat rugs page covers cat portraits and designs, and a custom rug can put your dog and cat side by side. For more animal designs, see our animal rugs.

Standard or Premium

Standard is best by doors, in mudrooms, kitchens and hallways, under food bowls and anywhere with a hard or slippery floor, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best as a nap spot or beside a bed. Both are printed the same way, so fur and faces stay crisp, and both go in the washing machine.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long, narrow runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes to lift pet hair, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so your dog's portrait stays bright, however many muddy days and rainy walks it sees.

Agility, flyball and active dogs

For high-energy dogs, sports are a way of life. Agility courses mix jumps, tunnels, weave poles and A-frames, with handlers guiding their dogs around at speed. Flyball is a relay race over hurdles to a box that launches a tennis ball, and dock diving sends dogs leaping off a pier into a pool, measured by distance. Border collies, shelties and Australian shepherds often excel, but dogs of every breed take part.

A rug inspired by those sports suits a home where the dog is an athlete: an agility course from above, with colored jumps and a tunnel curving across the rug, or a row of tennis balls and hurdles for a flyball family. It makes a fun design for a mudroom, a training room or a child's bedroom where the family dog sleeps at the foot of the bed.

FAQ

Questions about Dog Rugs

Can you make a rug of my own dog?

Yes. Send a clear photo of your dog, and we'll print the portrait at any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, on a round rug, or cut to the shape of your Lab, pug or terrier. Pet portraits can't be returned.

Are your rugs good for homes with dogs?

Yes. They go in the washing machine, pet hair lifts off with a low-setting vacuum, and Standard's non-slip back stays put on smooth floors.

Can I use a dog rug as a door mat?

Inside, yes: just within the front door or in a mudroom where muddy paws land. It's an indoor rug, though, so it shouldn't sit outside on the step in rain or snow.

Do you make a rug for under dog food bowls?

Yes. A bone-shaped rug or a 2×3 ft rug in Standard catches splashes and kibble and goes in the washing machine.

Will rugs help my dog on slippery floors?

Rugs give your dog a softer surface in the places they walk most. Choose Standard, whose non-slip back keeps the rug from sliding.

Which breeds do you have designs for?

Labs, Golden Retrievers, French Bulldogs, Dachshunds, Corgis, Pugs, Beagles, Poodles, Huskies and more, or any breed through custom rugs.

Do you make dog-shaped or bone-shaped rugs?

Yes. A dog's silhouette or a classic bone shape can be cut out, from 2.6×2.6 ft (80×80 cm) by the food bowls to 5.2×5.9 ft (160×180 cm) for a dog bed corner.

How do I wash a dog rug?

Gentle cold cycle, then dry it flat. Vacuum on low between washes to lift dog hair; your dog's portrait stays sharp and friendly.
