About Twin Peaks Rugs

A damn fine rug

The mysterious death of a homecoming queen, an FBI agent who adores coffee and cherry pie, a small logging town full of secrets and a strange red room with a black-and-white zigzag floor: Twin Peaks changed television in 1990 and still hasn't let go of its fans. A Twin Peaks-inspired rug brings that eerie, beautiful world home, and the classic design is the floor itself: a bold black-and-white zigzag chevron, perfect for a hallway runner or a movie room. There's also a deep red curtain border, a misty forest of Douglas firs, a thundering waterfall, a slice of cherry pie and a cup of black coffee. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.

The zigzag floor is the image every fan knows from the Red Room, and it makes a striking hallway runner.

The show

Twin Peaks was created by the filmmaker David Lynch and the writer Mark Frost and premiered on ABC in April 1990. It begins with the discovery of the body of Laura Palmer, the town's beloved homecoming queen, and the arrival of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, played by Kyle MacLachlan, who investigates with a mix of brilliant deduction, dreams and boundless enthusiasm for the local coffee. Soap opera, mystery, comedy and nightmare all at once, it was unlike anything on television, and its influence on later dramas is enormous. A prequel film followed in 1992, and the story returned for a third season in 2017. Lynch, one of the most original filmmakers of his time, died in January 2025.

The zigzag floor

The show's most famous set is a mysterious room with heavy red curtains on every side and a floor of bold black-and-white zigzag stripes. That pattern is a classic chevron, and it makes a striking rug in its own right, graphic, timeless and slightly unsettling in the best way. As a custom runner up to 10 ft long, it turns a hallway into the most talked-about part of the house. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by. For more bold patterns, see our geometric rugs.

Red curtains

A zigzag floor framed by a border of deep red velvet curtains captures the whole room in one rug. It's a dramatic design for a home theater or a den with dark walls and a single lamp. Our home theater rugs page has more ideas.

Douglas firs

Agent Cooper's love for the area's towering Douglas firs is one of the show's sweetest running notes. A misty forest of evergreens against mountains is a calm, beautiful design for a bedroom, a cabin or a living room in the Pacific Northwest style, and it works whether or not your guests know the show.

The waterfall

The opening credits linger on a thundering waterfall beside a grand lodge, real places in the towns of Snoqualmie and North Bend, Washington, where much of the show was filmed. A waterfall rug, white water tumbling into a misty gorge among firs, is a striking design for a living room or a study.

Visiting the real town

Fans still travel to the Snoqualmie Valley, east of Seattle, to see the show's real locations: the falls, the lodge that played the town's grand hotel and the cafe in North Bend that served as the diner, where visitors still order coffee and cherry pie. A misty forest or waterfall rug is a lovely souvenir of that pilgrimage.

Why the zigzag works

Zigzag and chevron patterns are among the oldest decorations in the world, found on ancient pottery and textiles. On a floor, they create movement and draw the eye along their length, which makes a narrow hallway feel longer and a small room feel more dynamic. In pure black and white, a zigzag is bold enough to be the only pattern in a room.

Bedrooms

In a bedroom, a fir-forest rug brings a calm, woodsy mood, while a small zigzag rug beside the bed adds a graphic touch. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.

Pairing with furniture

These rugs suit rooms with a little drama and a little warmth: a red velvet armchair, a vintage floor lamp, wood paneling, a record player and a few framed forest photographs. Pair a zigzag rug with a plain red wall or curtains for the full effect.

Coffee and cherry pie

A cup of black coffee and a slice of cherry pie at the local diner are as much a part of the show as the mystery. A coffee-and-pie rug is a funny, cozy design for a kitchen or a breakfast nook, and it goes in the washing machine when real coffee spills. Choose Standard for its grip on kitchen floors. Our kitchen rugs page has more ideas.

Owls

Owls appear again and again in the show, watching from the trees with an air of mystery. An owl perched in a moonlit fir is a moody, elegant design for a bedroom or a study. For more, see our owl rugs.

Lodge plaid

Red and black buffalo check, flannel shirts and log-cabin warmth are the uniform of the logging town. A buffalo-check rug is a cozy, versatile design for a cabin, a den or a living room in winter, and it pairs beautifully with wood paneling and a crackling fireplace.

The music

Angelo Badalamenti's dreamy, melancholy score, with its slow synthesizer chords and twangy guitar, is one of the most recognizable in television. A rug in a music room or listening corner, a zigzag floor or a misty forest, pairs perfectly with the soundtrack on vinyl. For more, see our vinyl record rugs.

Movie rooms and dens

A zigzag rug with a red curtain border is a dramatic centerpiece for a movie room or a den. Pair it with dark walls, a red velvet chair, a vintage lamp and a coffee table with a slice of pie for marathon nights. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for a soft floor to sprawl on.

Hallways and entryways

The zigzag pattern is made for long, narrow spaces. In a hallway, a custom runner seems to pull you down the corridor; just inside the front door, a smaller zigzag rug is a graphic welcome. Keep entry rugs indoors, out of the weather.

Cabins

For a real cabin in the woods, a fir-forest or buffalo-check rug in front of the fireplace feels just right, with flannel throws, wood beams, a stack of firewood and a pot of coffee on the stove.

Colors

Twin Peaks-inspired designs look best in black and white for the zigzag floor, deep red for curtains, forest green and grey mist for the woods, and red and black for lodge plaid.

Gifts

A Twin Peaks-inspired rug makes a great gift for a film buff, a cult-TV fan or anyone who appreciates a damn fine cup of coffee. A zigzag runner is the most recognizable; coffee and pie is the most charming of all.

Your own design

Want a zigzag runner sized exactly to your hallway, a fir forest with your cabin's name or a coffee rug with your diner's name? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or as a round rug. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; stills and photos of the actors belong to their owners. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.

Sizes, shipping and returns

Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft, and round rugs from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.

Care

Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot coffee spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the zigzags stay sharp, wash after wash.

The Log Lady and The Return

Twin Peaks is full of eccentric townspeople, and none is more beloved than the Log Lady, Margaret Lanterman, who cradles a small log and shares its cryptic messages with anyone who will listen. Her calm, mysterious presence and her introductions to episodes became some of the show's most memorable moments.

The story continued beyond the original series. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, a 1992 film, told the story of Laura Palmer's last days, and in 2017, David Lynch and Mark Frost returned with Twin Peaks: The Return, an 18-part series that revisited the town and its mysteries 25 years later, just as Laura had promised.

Those details inspire rugs with a deep-cut appeal. A small log cradled in a pair of hands, set against a pine-forest backdrop, is a quiet tribute to the Log Lady for a reading nook or a cabin. A homecoming portrait frame in a glass case, without the photo itself, is an eerie nod for a fan's den, and a tall red curtain with a sliver of zigzag floor beneath captures the Red Room's strangeness for a hallway.

Pair these designs with dark wood, plaid blankets and a pot of damn fine coffee, and the room feels like a corner of the Great Northern Hotel or the Double R Diner, the perfect place for a rewatch.

Pine paneling, plaid and a wood stove make a cabin the most natural home for a Twin Peaks rug.
