About Star Wars Rugs
A rug from a galaxy far, far away
A Star Wars rug puts one of the most beloved stories in film on your floor: two lightsabers crossing in a burst of light, the Millennium Falcon seen from above, the grey sphere of the Death Star, Tatooine's two suns setting over the desert. The classic choices are the Falcon, which makes a brilliant round or shaped rug, and the jump to hyperspace, streaks of white light on black, which works as a striking abstract in any room. Every design is printed into soft velvet that goes in the washing machine.
The saga
George Lucas's Star Wars arrived in theaters in 1977 and changed movies forever. The original trilogy, completed by The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and Return of the Jedi in 1983, followed Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca against Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire. The prequels, from 1999 to 2005, told Anakin Skywalker's fall; the sequel trilogy, from 2015 to 2019, introduced Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren. Series like The Mandalorian, which introduced the much-loved Grogu, and Andor brought the galaxy to television. Fans even have their own day, May the 4th.
Lightsabers
The lightsaber is the most recognizable weapon in film, and its colors tell a story: blue and green for the Jedi, red for the Sith, and Mace Windu's unique purple. A lightsaber rug, two blades crossing on black in a burst of light, is a dramatic design for a game room or a teen's bedroom. A single blade running the length of a long rug makes a great hallway runner, through a custom size up to 10 ft long.
Ships
| Ship | Known for | On a rug |
|---|---|---|
| Millennium Falcon | Han Solo's battered freighter, fast enough for the Kessel Run | A round or shaped rug, seen from above |
| X-wing | The Rebel starfighter Luke flew at the Death Star | A dynamic design on a starfield |
| TIE fighter | The Empire's screaming twin-winged fighter | A graphic, symmetrical design |
| Star Destroyer | The Empire's vast wedge-shaped warship | A dramatic long rectangle |
The Millennium Falcon from above suits a round or shaped rug, while a Star Destroyer is best on a long rectangle, where its wedge shape can stretch out.
The Millennium Falcon, with its round body and two forward prongs, is especially good as a shaped rug, cut to its outline, in sizes from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Our shaped rugs page shows how they work.
The Death Star
A grey sphere the size of a small moon, with its great dish-shaped superlaser, the Death Star is one of cinema's most famous images. It's perfect for a round rug, 3.9 to 5.2 ft (120 to 160 cm) across, and it reads as a striking sci-fi graphic even to someone who's never seen the films. Our round rugs page shows each size in a room.
Twin suns and desert worlds
The moment young Luke stares out at Tatooine's two setting suns is one of the most beautiful scenes in the saga. A twin-sunset design, two glowing suns over golden dunes, is a calm, cinematic rug that works in a living room as well as a fan's bedroom. Other worlds have their own looks: the snowfields of Hoth, the forest moon of Endor, the lava of Mustafar. For more desert sci-fi, see our Dune rugs.
The jump to hyperspace
When a ship jumps to lightspeed, the stars stretch into streaks of white light rushing toward the viewer. As a rug, it's a stunning abstract: white lines radiating from a dark center, full of motion. It's one of the most versatile Star Wars designs, because it looks like modern art to guests. For more cosmic designs, see our space rugs.
Emblems
The Rebel Alliance's starbird, the Galactic Empire's cog-shaped crest, the winged symbol of the Jedi Order and the Mandalorian mythosaur skull are all strong, simple shapes that suit a round rug. Pick a side: Rebel orange and white, Imperial grey and black, or Jedi blue. A split design, Rebel on one half and Empire on the other, is fun for siblings who disagree.
Han in carbonite
At the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo is frozen in a slab of carbonite, his hands raised in protest. A carbonite design, a dark, metallic slab with Han's outline pressed into it, is one of the funniest, most recognizable Star Wars rugs, perfect for the floor of a game room or in front of a bed.
The opening crawl and the score
Every film in the saga begins the same way: a quiet line of blue text, then a blast of brass as yellow words scroll away into the stars. John Williams's score, from the main title to the Imperial March, is as much a part of Star Wars as any ship or character, and many fans can't hear it without grinning. A crawl-inspired design, golden text receding into a starfield, with your own words through a custom rug, makes a clever, personal piece for a home theater or a fan's room.
Blueprints
For a subtler rug, a technical blueprint of a ship, the Millennium Falcon, an X-wing or a TIE fighter, drawn in white lines on deep navy, looks like an engineer's drawing to visitors and like a dream to fans. It suits a study, an office or an adult's bedroom where a full scene would be too much.
Characters
- Darth Vader, black helmet and cape, the most iconic villain in film.
- Yoda and Grogu, the wise old master and the tiny, beloved foundling.
- R2-D2 and C-3PO, the droids who bicker their way across the galaxy.
- Chewbacca, the loyal Wookiee co-pilot.
- Stormtroopers, in their gleaming white armor.
- The Mandalorian, in his silver beskar helmet.
A Vader helmet on a round rug is bold for a teen's room; Grogu is sweet for a child's room or a nursery; a stormtrooper helmet is graphic in black and white.
A Star Wars bedroom
A Star Wars bedroom works at any age. For a young child, Grogu or the droids on a bright rug, with starry bedding and a night light. For a teen, a lightsaber or Vader design with dark walls and LED strips in blue or red. For an adult, a subtler choice, hyperspace, the twin suns or a Falcon blueprint in white lines on navy. For the softest bedside rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Game rooms and home theaters
In a home theater, a twin sunset or hyperspace rug in front of the screen sets the mood before the opening crawl begins. In a game room, a Falcon or X-wing design under the desk chair suits fans of the Star Wars games. Under a chair, choose Standard: 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put and lets wheels roll freely. Our home theater rugs page has more ideas.
Bathrooms and doorways
A small Star Wars rug by the bedroom door or the bathroom vanity is a fun touch. Our rugs are for indoor use and aren't quick-drying bath mats, so keep a bathroom rug by the vanity rather than right where you step out of the shower. Choose Standard for its grip on hard floors.
Other galaxies
If your shelf also holds other science fiction, you'll find our Star Trek rugs and Dune rugs, and for brick-built starships, our Lego rugs. The whole range of film and TV designs is on our movie and pop culture rugs page.
Standard or Premium
Standard is best under desk chairs, in hallways, by doors and on hard floors, because its non-slip back stays put. Premium is softer and warmer, best in bedrooms and lounges. Both are printed the same way, so lightsabers glow and blacks stay deep, and both go in the washing machine.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft. Round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across, and shaped rugs from 2.6×2.6 up to 5.2×5.9 ft (80×80 to 160×180 cm). Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders.
Gifts
A Star Wars rug is a great gift for a fan who saw the original in 1977, a child who just discovered Grogu or a friend who celebrates May the 4th every year. If you aren't sure which design to choose, the Millennium Falcon is the safest; hyperspace is the most stylish.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the stars stay bright, no carbonite required.
A note on the saga
Droids
Some of the saga's most beloved characters are droids. R2-D2, the plucky blue-and-white astromech, beeps his way through every era, and C-3PO, the golden protocol droid fluent in over six million forms of communication, worries about everything. BB-8, the rolling orange-and-white astromech of the sequel trilogy, became an instant favorite, and smaller droids, like the boxy mouse droids zipping along Death Star corridors, add charm to the background.
Droid designs make fun, friendly rugs. A round astromech dome seen from above, with blue panels and a glowing lens, is a clever round rug for a kid's bedroom. A golden pattern of protocol-droid panels suits a game room, and an orange-and-white rolling droid makes a cheerful design for a playroom.
Because droids are cute rather than scary, they're also a good choice for younger fans who aren't ready for lightsaber duels, and for adults who just love the saga's mechanical sidekicks.
For kids who build droid models or robotics projects, a droid rug in the workshop corner is an inspiring touch.
Droid designs also suit a robotics club room or a STEM classroom corner.
