About The Witcher Mouse Pads

The Witcher mouse pads for the desk

Our Witcher mouse pads and desk mats are Padrift designs inspired by the games of CD Projekt Red and the books of Andrzej Sapkowski, printed across the full surface of a 3 mm neoprene pad. On top is a fabric surface for the mouse, underneath is a non-slip base, and around the edge runs a stitched border that won't fray. The pads come in eight desk sizes between 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) and 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm); look at a design's own page to see which of them it is available in. Each one is printed after it is ordered.

Sapkowski published his first witcher story in a Polish fantasy magazine in 1986, and the books grew into two story collections and a five-novel saga. CD Projekt Red turned them into games: The Witcher in 2007, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on May 19, 2015, followed by the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter with white hair and cat-like eyes, walks through all of them, taking contracts in a world that rarely thanks him.

A series that started on PC

Unlike most big console franchises, The Witcher began at a desk. The first game was a PC exclusive built on BioWare's Aurora engine, the same technology behind Neverwinter Nights, and The Witcher 2 launched on PC a year before it reached the Xbox 360. The Witcher 3 came to consoles on the same day as PC, but the series still has deep roots in mouse-and-keyboard play and in an active modding scene.

That history makes a Witcher pad feel at home under a keyboard rather than in front of a TV. It also explains the scale of the games: The Witcher 3 and its two expansions can take well over a hundred hours, which is a lot of time with your wrist resting on the same surface.

Mouse and keyboard on the Path

On PC, The Witcher 3 puts the camera on the mouse and Geralt's dodges, rolls and Signs on the keyboard. Fights are about circling an enemy and turning quickly to keep it in view, and a fabric top gives the mouse a smooth, controlled glide for those turns. The crossbow, used underwater and against flying monsters, rewards a steady hand.

Much of the game also happens in menus: the inventory, the alchemy screen, the crafting lists and the map. That means a lot of scrolling and clicking between fights. The cushioned neoprene makes long sessions easier on the wrist, and the non-slip base keeps the mat from creeping while you sort through a bag full of drowner brains and rusty swords.

The wolf medallion on a small pad

Geralt wears a silver medallion shaped like a snarling wolf's head, the mark of the School of the Wolf, which trembles when magic is near. It is the series' simplest and strongest symbol, and it suits the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad, where your hand covers most of the surface and only a single shape can stay in view. Placed toward the top of the pad, the wolf's head stays visible while you work.

Silver on black or charcoal is the classic look and suits a dark setup. For a lighter desk, a medallion drawn in dark ink on a parchment ground is easier to read and less heavy.

Two swords on a long strip

A witcher carries two swords on his back: steel for humans and silver for monsters. Their long, straight shape fits the long, shallow desk mats better than almost any other subject, laid along the back edge of an M, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), or crossed at one end of an XL with the blades running behind the keyboard.

A sword design keeps the middle of the mat simple, so the keyboard doesn't cut a picture in half. It also pairs well with a dark background, such as worn leather or rough stone, that makes the steel and silver stand out.

Five Signs above the keyboard

Geralt's magic comes in five simple Signs, each with its own glyph: Aard, a telekinetic blast; Igni, a burst of fire; Yrden, a magical trap; Quen, a protective shield; and Axii, which clouds the mind. The glyphs are clean geometric shapes, easy to print and easy to recognize, and they fit naturally in a row along the back edge of a long mat, like a second row of keys above your keyboard.

On a small pad, a single Sign works better than all five. Igni in orange suits a warm setup, while Aard in pale blue suits a cooler desk.

Velen, Novigrad and Skellige

The Witcher 3 is built from regions with very different palettes, and choosing one is the easiest way to match a design to a room.

  • White Orchard: green fields, orchards and quiet villages. A gentle starting point for any desk.
  • Velen: mud, gray skies, swamps and crows over a land torn by war. Dark and earthy, for a black or walnut desk.
  • Novigrad: red roofs, crowded streets and the harbor of the biggest city in the North. Warm and busy, for a desk with warm light.
  • Skellige: steel-blue sea, green cliffs and snow-capped peaks. Cool and wild, for a white or gray setup.
  • Kaer Morhen: the witchers' ruined keep in the mountains, all stone and snow. Calm, cold and minimal.

Toussaint for a bright desk

Blood and Wine moved the story south to Toussaint, a sunny duchy of vineyards, knights and fairy-tale castles, with the city of Beauclair at its heart. It is the brightest place in the series, all gold light, blue sky and green hills, and it gives Witcher fans a palette that suits a white desk in daylight. Geralt even gets a home there: Corvo Bianco, a vineyard estate of his own. A design built on Toussaint is a rare chance to put The Witcher on a desk without mud or blood in view.

Contracts on a notice board

In every village, Geralt's work starts at the notice board, where frightened locals pin hand-written contracts for whatever is eating their livestock. A design laid out like that board, with pinned parchment notices, a rough wooden frame and a bestiary sketch or two, suits a work desk especially well. It looks like a corkboard of notes, it is busy at the edges and calm in the middle, and the keyboard can sit over the wood without hiding a single notice.

Monsters by silhouette

Some of the series' monsters have outlines strong enough to carry a pad on their own. The griffin, Geralt's first contract in White Orchard, spreads its wings wide enough to span an XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm). The leshen, a forest spirit with a deer skull for a face and antlers above it, is tall and narrow, a good shape for one end of a mat. Drowners, noonwraiths and the endless ghouls make better patterns than portraits.

Monster designs suit a gaming setup more than a shared office, but drawn in the style of an old bestiary page, in sepia ink on parchment, even a leshen can look at home beside a stack of books.

Gwent and the inns

Geralt can sit down at almost any inn table in The Witcher 3 for a round of Gwent, the card game that CD Projekt Red later spun off into a free-to-play game of its own in 2018, alongside a story spin-off, Thronebreaker. Gwent is played with the mouse, card by card, and a long match is another reason to have a comfortable surface under your hand.

As a design, Gwent offers card backs and faction emblems rather than scenes: the gold sun of Nilfgaard on black, or the lilies of Temeria for the Northern Realms. Those emblems suit small pads and the ends of long mats.

Ciri, Yennefer and Triss

The women around Geralt each bring a palette of their own. Yennefer of Vengerberg dresses in black and white, which makes her the obvious match for a monochrome setup with a black keyboard on a white desk. Ciri, with her ashen hair, green eyes and sword, suits a cool, pale desk, and Triss Merigold's red hair adds warmth to a wooden one. A portrait at the left end of a long mat keeps a face in view, clear of the keyboard and the mouse.

The Wild Hunt for a dark setup

The game's villains are the riders of the Wild Hunt, spectral warriors in spiked, skull-like armor who bring frost and ice wherever they go, led by their king, Eredin. Their palette is cold: black, pale blue and white, with ice spreading across the frame. It suits a black setup with icy blue or white lighting, and a line of riders galloping out of the dark makes a strong design for the length of an XL or a 4XL.

A map of the Continent

The books and games share a map: the Northern Kingdoms, among them Temeria, Redania, Kaedwen and Aedirn, the Empire of Nilfgaard to the south and the islands of Skellige out to the west. An old-style map, with mountain ranges drawn as little peaks and kingdoms in faded color, suits a long mat. Place the Northern Kingdoms behind the keyboard and the sea and Skellige stay visible at the left end. The names are small, so choose XL or larger.

Ciri and the next game

The Witcher 3 received a free next-gen update in December 2022, and in December 2024 CD Projekt Red revealed the next game in the series, The Witcher 4, with Ciri as the main character. A Ciri design looks back and forward at the same time: the girl Geralt protected in the books and the third game, and the witcher at the center of the next story.

Sizes for a Witcher desk

Each design's product page shows the sizes it is made in. These are the ones that fit Witcher art.

Two sizes sit outside the table: L, 11.8″ × 31.5″ (30 × 80 cm), gives a pair of swords their full length on a shallow desk, and 3XL, 19.7″ × 39.4″ (50 × 100 cm), lets the Wild Hunt ride across a desk a little bigger than XL.

Gifts for a witcher

A Witcher mouse pad suits someone who has finished The Witcher 3 more than once, someone who read the books before the games, or someone who still plays Gwent at every inn. The wolf medallion is the safe choice if you don't know their favorite character, and May 19, The Witcher 3's release date, is an easy day to remember.

If you don't know the size of their desk, an XL is the dependable choice, with room for a keyboard and a mouse side by side. Printing takes 1–3 business days from your order; the pad then travels from Turkey, and a US address can expect it about 2–5 business days later.

Cleaning off the mud of Velen

Dark, earthy designs hide marks well, but dust and lint show on black. Brush the surface with a damp cloth once a week. For a deeper clean, hand wash the pad in lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap, rinse it, blot out the water with a towel and let it dry lying flat, away from a radiator. A washing machine, a tumble dryer or an iron will do it no favors, so keep it away from all three.

A note on names

The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia and the names of other characters, places and creatures are used here to describe what our designs are inspired by. Padrift is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by CD Projekt, CD Projekt Red or Andrzej Sapkowski.

FAQ

Questions about The Witcher Mouse Pads

Will the wolf medallion read well on a small mouse pad?

Yes. It is a single, bold shape, so it stays clear on the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad even with your hand on it. Placing it toward the top keeps it in view while you play.

What size fits Geralt's two swords?

The M, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), or the L, 11.8″ × 31.5″ (30 × 80 cm), lets the steel and silver swords run along the back edge. On an XL they can cross at one end instead.

Which Witcher region suits a bright desk?

Toussaint, from Blood and Wine, with its vineyards, gold light and blue sky. White Orchard's green fields also suit a light desk, while Velen and the Wild Hunt belong on darker setups.

Is a Witcher desk mat good for The Witcher 3 on mouse and keyboard?

Yes. Fights mean quick camera turns, and the fabric top keeps them smooth. The non-slip base stays put, and the neoprene cushions your wrist through menus, Gwent and very long playthroughs.

Which Witcher design suits a black-and-white setup?

Yennefer, who dresses in black and white, or the Wild Hunt in black and icy blue. A silver wolf medallion on charcoal also fits a monochrome desk.

Do these pads come from CD Projekt Red?

They don't. CD Projekt Red makes the games and Andrzej Sapkowski wrote the books, but neither had a hand in these pads. Padrift creates the designs and prints each one after you order it.
