About Stardew Valley Mouse Pads

Stardew Valley mouse pads for the desk

Padrift's Stardew Valley mouse pads and desk mats take their art from Eric Barone's farming game and print it across the whole surface of a 3 mm neoprene pad, with a fabric top, a non-slip base and a stitched edge that keeps the border from fraying. The range covers eight desk sizes, from a pad of 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) that holds only the mouse to a 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm) mat that takes over most of the desk; the product page of each design tells you which of those sizes it comes in. Nothing waits on a shelf, because a pad is printed only after someone orders it.

Stardew Valley came out on PC on February 26, 2016. Barone, working under the name ConcernedApe, made it on his own: the code, the pixel art, the writing and the music. You quit a gray office job at the Joja Corporation, move onto your late grandfather's overgrown farm outside Pelican Town and spend the seasons clearing land, planting crops and getting to know your neighbors. It is a game built from small daily routines, and that is exactly why it sits so comfortably on a desk you return to every morning.

Pixel art at desk scale

Pixel art behaves well when it is printed large. Stardew's sprites are built from hard-edged squares of flat color, so enlarging a parsnip or a chicken to the width of a desk mat keeps every edge crisp instead of turning soft the way a stretched photo would. The picture stays readable from your chair and from across the room, and the blocky outlines still make sense where the keyboard covers half of them.

It also changes how a design should be planned. A painted scene with one focal point loses that focus under a keyboard. A pixel field of crops in neat rows doesn't, because the pattern carries on at both sides and your eye fills in the middle. If you want the look of the game on a mat that spends its life under a full-size keyboard, a repeating tile pattern of crops, fences and stone paths is the safest kind of Stardew art.

Spring, summer, fall or winter

Every season in Stardew Valley lasts 28 days and brings its own crops, colors and music. Picking one is the simplest way to match a pad to the room it will live in.

  • Spring: fresh greens, pink blossom and pale yellow, with parsnips, cauliflower and strawberries. It brightens a white desk and a pastel keyboard.
  • Summer: deep grass, blue water and the reds of tomatoes, melons and hot peppers. It holds its own on a desk that gets strong daylight.
  • Fall: orange, amber and brown, with pumpkins, cranberries and grapes. It pairs with oak or walnut furniture and a warm-white lamp.
  • Winter: snowy fields, bare trees and frozen blue ponds. It suits a gray or white setup under cool light.

Fall hides everyday wear better than the others. Spring and winter, being pale, show the patch where your wrist rests a little sooner.

The toolbar along the front edge

The game keeps its toolbar at the bottom of the screen: a row of twelve slots holding the hoe, the watering can, the axe, the pickaxe, the scythe and whatever seeds you bought that morning. On a long, shallow mat the same strip can run along the front edge, just under your wrists, where anyone who has played for an afternoon recognizes it at once. On PC the number keys from 1 to 0, followed by minus and equals, select those twelve slots, so a printed toolbar echoes the row of keys right above it.

This works when the keyboard sits toward the back of the mat and the slots stay visible in front of it. The M size, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), is long enough for the whole row on a compact setup.

Farming with a mouse

On PC the farmer walks with WASD, the left mouse button swings whatever tool you are holding, and the right button harvests, opens doors and starts a conversation. Planting a big field means hundreds of small clicks, and the mouse also does the work of sorting chests, filling the shipping bin and moving stacks around your backpack. Light, constant clicking like that is where a cloth surface earns its place: the fabric top gives an even glide, the cushioned neoprene takes the hardness out of the desk during a long session, and the non-slip base keeps the mat from creeping while you tidy a row of chests before bed.

If you farm with a controller instead, on the desk or from a couch, a mat still gives the controller a soft place to rest and gives the rest of the setup a backdrop that matches the game on screen.

Junimos and other small symbols

Junimos are the little forest spirits hiding in the abandoned Community Center, who ask for bundles of crops, fish and forage in exchange for restoring it. They are round, come in several bright colors and have a small stalk on top, and that simple outline is one of the most recognizable shapes in the game. On the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad, one Junimo or a small huddle of them in the corner your hand doesn't cover is easy to read at a glance.

Other symbols that suit a small surface: the Stardrop, the star-shaped fruit that raises your maximum energy; a single parsnip, the crop almost every farm plants first; a hopping green slime from the mines; or a chicken sprite, scaled up until each pixel is the size of a fingertip.

Pelican Town as a desk map

The valley has a clear layout: your farm in the west, Pelican Town in the middle, the mountain and the entrance to the mines to the north, Cindersap Forest to the southwest and the beach along the south. That makes a map design easy to place. On a right-handed desk the farm can sit under the left side of the keyboard, the town square under the middle keys, and the beach with Willy's shop near the front edge where your wrists rest.

A full valley map needs room for the buildings to stay legible, so XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), is the smallest size worth considering, and the deeper XXL, 23.6″ × 35.4″ (60 × 90 cm), keeps the mountain and the beach in view at the same time.

A pad for the office you haven't quit

The game opens in a cubicle. Your character sits at a Joja desk under fluorescent light, opens the envelope Grandpa left and leaves for the valley. That scene gives Stardew a running joke for anyone who uses a pad at work: a field of crops or a sunny farmhouse under your keyboard at the office is a small reminder of the escape the game is built around.

It also helps that Stardew art is gentle. A pastel crop pattern or a seasonal landscape doesn't look out of place next to spreadsheets and video calls, and most colleagues will simply see a pretty farm. The ones who have played will notice the parsnips.

A villager at the end of the mat

Pelican Town has a few dozen residents, twelve of whom you can marry. Their portraits are drawn in more detail than the sprites, which makes them good for one end of a long mat, where the keyboard won't cover a face. Abigail, with her purple hair, suits a dark or violet setup. Emily's blue hair fits a colorful desk. Penny's red hair and quiet manner suit a warm, wooden one. Sebastian, in his dark hoodie, sits well beside a black keyboard.

A design showing a villager's portrait at the left end of an XL mat keeps them in view while the mouse works at the right. If you have a spouse in your save file, that is an easy choice to make for yourself and a harder one to guess for someone else.

Into the mines after dark

Not every Stardew design is sunny. The mines under the mountain run 120 floors deep: brown earth and copper in the upper levels, ice and frozen blue stone from floor 40, and dark rock lit by lava from floor 80. Further away, in the Calico Desert, Skull Cavern goes deeper still. Those palettes suit a dark gaming setup far better than a pastel field, and the frozen and lava floors pair naturally with teal, purple or red lighting.

A mine design on a black setup also changes the mood of the game on your desk: less cottage, more adventure, with slimes, bats and glowing crystals instead of rows of crops.

The fishing bar

Fishing in Stardew is a small mini-game. A tall bar appears beside your farmer, and you hold the mouse button to keep a green zone over a darting fish until the catch meter fills. It is one of the few moments when the game asks for real timing, and a steady glide helps. The bar's tall, narrow shape also suits design: it fits the end of a long mat or a small pad turned upright, with the fish, the green zone and a little treasure chest stacked from top to bottom.

The legendary fish give the theme a goal: the Legend in the mountain lake, the Crimsonfish off the beach, the Glacierfish in the forest river. Each makes a good single subject for a pad.

Ginger Island and the later updates

Barone has kept expanding the game for free. The 1.5 update, released in December 2020, added Ginger Island, a tropical island reached on Willy's boat, with a volcano dungeon, parrots and a field you can farm in any season. Its turquoise water, sand and palm greens are the brightest palette in Stardew and suit a white desk with a summer mood. The 1.6 update in March 2024 brought new festivals and the Meadowlands farm, which starts you off with a coop and chickens.

Because the game keeps growing, a Stardew pad doesn't belong to one moment in its history. A design built on the island, the desert or the classic farm all point to the same place.

A cozy desk for work and study

Stardew Valley belongs to the cozy games that people play to wind down, and its look carries into a desk built for reading, writing or study. A light seasonal mat under a laptop, a plant in the corner and the soundtrack playing quietly is the kind of setup the game seems made for. Each in-game day passes in less than fifteen real minutes, so the game also makes an easy reward between study sessions.

For that kind of desk, choose calm designs with plenty of open space, such as a spring meadow or a winter field, rather than a busy collage of every character. A calm surface leaves room for notebooks and a cup of coffee without looking cluttered.

Sizes for a Stardew desk

Product pages list the sizes for each design. These are the ones that fit Stardew art.

SetupSizeGood for

The table skips L, 11.8″ × 31.5″ (30 × 80 cm), which gives a toolbar or a row of crops extra length, and 3XL, 19.7″ × 39.4″ (50 × 100 cm), a roomier field for a desk that can't take the full width of 4XL.

Gifts for a farmer

A Stardew Valley mouse pad suits someone who has restored the Community Center, someone who chose Joja and feels a little guilty, or someone who just started a co-op farm with friends. If you don't know their favorite season or villager, a Junimo or a crop pattern is hard to get wrong. February 26, the game's release date, makes a good excuse for a gift.

When you can't see the desk it is going to, pick the XL: it holds a full keyboard and a mouse on most desks without crowding them. Expect 1–3 business days for printing and stitching, after which the pad leaves Turkey and usually reaches a US address in another 2–5 business days.

Keeping a pastel pad clean

Pale spring and winter designs show the oil from your wrist before darker ones do. Every week or two, run a damp cloth over the area where your hand rests. When it needs more than that, wash the pad by hand in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse it well, press it between towels to draw the water out and lay it flat until dry. Skip the washing machine, the dryer and the iron, and the pixel edges will stay sharp.

FAQ

Questions about Stardew Valley Mouse Pads

Which Stardew Valley season suits a white desk?

Spring or winter. Spring's pale greens and blossom pink brighten a white desk and pastel keys, and winter's snowy fields match a white or gray setup under cool light. Fall's oranges look better on wood.

Is a desk mat useful for farming with a mouse?

Yes. Planting, harvesting and sorting chests mean hundreds of small clicks. The fabric top keeps the glide even, the neoprene softens the desk under your wrist, and the non-slip base keeps the mat in place.

What size fits a map of the whole valley?

XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), is the minimum for the buildings to stay legible. XXL, 23.6″ × 35.4″ (60 × 90 cm), adds the depth to show the mountain at the back and the beach at the front.

Which Stardew design works on the smallest pad?

A single Junimo, a Stardrop, a parsnip or a slime. Put it in the corner of the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad that your hand leaves free, so it stays visible while you work.

Does pixel art stay sharp on a large desk mat?

It does. Pixel art is made of hard-edged blocks of flat color, so enlarging it keeps the edges crisp rather than blurry. A chicken or a crop scaled across a 4XL still reads cleanly.

Did ConcernedApe make or approve these pads?

No. Eric Barone and ConcernedApe have nothing to do with them. Padrift draws its own designs inspired by the valley and prints each pad after it is ordered, as an independent studio.
