About Superman Rugs
The first superhero
Before there were any other caped heroes, there was Superman. He was the first, and nearly ninety years later he's still the one every other superhero is measured against: impossibly strong, unfailingly kind and always ready to help. A Superman-inspired rug brings that bright, hopeful spirit into a room, with bold comic panels in red, blue and yellow, a red cape streaking over a city skyline, pop-art action words or a vintage-style comic cover from the golden age. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine, which is a superpower of its own in a kid's room.

Krypto the Superdog is the friendliest design for a toddler, while a golden-age cover suits a collector's room.
Two kids from Cleveland
Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two teenage friends from Cleveland, Ohio, who spent years trying to sell their idea before it finally appeared on the cover of Action Comics #1 in 1938, lifting a car over his head. That first issue sold for ten cents; today the rare surviving copies are among the most valuable comic books in the world, selling for millions of dollars. Superman's success launched the entire superhero genre and the golden age of comics.
The story
Born Kal-El on the dying planet Krypton, Superman was sent to Earth as a baby by his parents, moments before his world was destroyed. His rocket landed near Smallville, Kansas, where he was found and raised by a kind farm couple, Jonathan and Martha Kent, who named him Clark. Under Earth's yellow sun, he grew strong enough to fly, see through walls and outrun a speeding bullet. As an adult, he moved to the city of Metropolis, where he works as a mild-mannered reporter at the Daily Planet alongside Lois Lane, and his one great weakness is kryptonite, glowing green fragments of his home world.
Smallville
Before he was a hero, Clark Kent was a farm boy in Kansas, and the Kents' red barn, golden wheat fields and wide prairie sky are as much a part of his story as Metropolis. A Smallville design, a farmhouse and barn under a big blue sky with a red cape drifting overhead, is a warm, gentle rug for a younger child's room or a farmhouse-style bedroom.
Lois Lane and the Daily Planet
Lois Lane, the fearless star reporter of the Daily Planet, has been at Superman's side since that first issue in 1938, and she's a hero in her own right. A newsroom-inspired design, a vintage front page of our own with bold headlines, typewriter keys and a city view, makes a fun rug for a journalist, a writer or a student of the news.
Comic panels
A rug printed with bold comic panels, action scenes in primary red, blue and yellow with speech bubbles and halftone dots, is the classic superhero design. It's energetic and cheerful, perfect for a child's bedroom or a playroom. On a 4×6 or 5×7 ft rug, there's room for a whole story. For more comic art, see our pop art rugs.
Flying over Metropolis
A red cape streaking across a city skyline at dawn, with the sun rising behind the towers and a famous golden globe atop one of them, is a hopeful, dramatic design for a bedroom or a hallway runner. A custom runner up to 10 ft long lets the flight stretch from one end of the hall to the other. Choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put as people walk by.
Pop-art action words
Bursts of POW, ZOOM and WHOOSH in bright halftone dots, the visual sound effects of comic books, make a fun, graphic rug for a game room or a teen's bedroom. They pair well with framed comic covers and a shelf of collectible figures.
The crystal fortress
Superman's secret retreat, the Fortress of Solitude, is hidden in the frozen Arctic, a palace of towering ice crystals where he keeps memories of Krypton. A design of glowing crystal spires in ice blue and white is a calm, otherworldly rug for a bedroom or a study.
Krypto the Superdog
Superman's loyal white dog, Krypto, first appeared in the comics in 1955, and he flew back into the spotlight in the 2025 film. A cartoon white dog in a little red cape is a sweet, playful design for a toddler's room or a nursery. For more dogs, see our dog rugs.
On screen
Superman has flown through radio, cartoons, television and film for decades. Christopher Reeve's performance in the 1978 film convinced a generation that a man could fly, and David Corenswet took up the cape in James Gunn's Superman in July 2025, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Every generation seems to find its own Superman, and a rug inspired by him is a gift that fans of every age understand.
The Home of Superman
The real town of Metropolis, Illinois, on the Ohio River, has embraced its name: it calls itself the Home of Superman, with a giant statue of the hero in its town square and a Superman Celebration every June. A rug for a road-trip-loving family can be a fun souvenir of a visit.
Kids' bedrooms
For a young fan, a Superman-inspired rug is the heart of a superhero bedroom. Pair it with red and blue bedding, a few framed comic covers and a cape on a hook by the door. On a hard floor, choose Standard so the rug stays put. For a softer, warmer rug, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m². Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Playrooms
A comic panel rug or a city skyline makes a great play rug for action figures, with buildings to leap and streets to save. On a hard floor, choose Standard. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.
Comic collectors' rooms
For adult collectors, a vintage golden-age cover design, aged paper and faded colors, makes a stylish rug for a comic room, an office or a reading nook lined with long boxes. It pairs well with framed covers, a leather chair and a reading lamp angled over the long boxes.
Round rugs
A round rug with a burst of comic action words, a red cape swirling into the circle or a glowing yellow sun is a fun shape for a reading corner. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across.
Colors
Superman-inspired designs look best in primary red, blue and yellow, the classic comic book palette. For a calmer room, a navy skyline with a single red cape keeps the theme subtle, and an ice blue crystal design feels cool and modern.
Other heroes
For Gotham's dark knight, see our Batman rugs, and for more DC favorites, our DC Comics rugs. For the other big comic universe, see our Marvel rugs, and for a newer hero, our Invincible rugs.
Gifts
A Superman-inspired rug makes a great birthday gift for a young superhero fan, or a nostalgic gift for an adult who grew up with the comics or the films. A custom comic panel with the child's name as the hero is the most personal choice.
Your own hero
Want a comic panel starring your child, their name in a pop-art burst or a skyline of your own city? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use, which rules out the official logo and comic art you don't own. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft, and round rugs from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the reds and blues stay bold, wash after wash.
Kryptonite and the villains
Superman's most famous weakness, kryptonite, comes in many colors in the comics. Green kryptonite, from the remains of his home planet, weakens and can kill him. Red kryptonite causes strange, unpredictable effects, gold can take away his powers, and blue affects Bizarro, his twisted, backward double, who lives on a cube-shaped planet called Htrae, which is Earth spelled backward.
His villains are just as colorful. Lex Luthor, the brilliant, bald businessman, wants to prove humanity doesn't need a hero. Brainiac, an alien intelligence, shrinks and collects cities in bottles. General Zod, a Kryptonian military leader, threatens Earth with powers equal to Superman's, and Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe.
Those details make clever, colorful rugs. A cluster of glowing crystals in green, red, gold and blue is a striking design for a comic fan's room, a nod to kryptonite without any logo. A city in a glass bottle on a shelf recalls Brainiac's strange collection, and a square planet floating in space is a funny, deep-cut tribute to Bizarro's world for a playroom.
For a fan who loves the whole mythology, a rug that pairs Metropolis at sunrise with a few glowing crystals in the corner tells the story of a hero and the one thing that can stop him.
