About Star Trek Rugs
To boldly go across the floor
Since 1966, Star Trek has imagined a hopeful future where people from every planet work together to explore the unknown, and it has inspired generations of scientists, engineers and astronauts along the way. A Star Trek-inspired rug brings that optimistic spirit home: a starfield streaking past at warp speed, blocks of command gold, science blue and engineering red, a panel of curved, colorful retro-futuristic consoles, a starship bridge laid out on the floor or the purple sky of an alien world. Every design is printed into soft velvet and goes in the washing machine.
Star Trek-inspired designs
| Design | The look | Best in |
|---|---|---|
| Warp starfield | Stars streaking into lines on deep black | Home theaters, game rooms |
| Uniform colors | Gold, blue and red blocks with black | Studies, minimalist rooms |
| Console panels | Rounded blocks of orange, purple and blue | Offices, gaming setups |
| Bridge floor plan | A starship bridge seen from above | Game rooms, man caves |
| Alien planet | Strange rocks under a colored sky | Bedrooms, kids' rooms |
| The salute | A raised hand with fingers parted | Entryways, studies |
Uniform colors are a subtle nod for a study: command gold, science blue and operations red, as in the original series.
The show
Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry and premiered on NBC in September 1966. It followed the crew of the starship Enterprise, led by Captain James T. Kirk and his half-Vulcan science officer Mr. Spock, on a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds. The original series lasted only three seasons, but reruns made it a phenomenon, and it grew into films and a long line of series: The Next Generation in 1987, followed by Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise and, in recent years, Discovery, Picard, Strange New Worlds and the animated Lower Decks and Prodigy. Few franchises have lasted so long or meant so much to their fans.
Warp speed
When a starship jumps to warp, the stars stretch into streaks of light. A warp-speed starfield, white and blue streaks racing toward the center of a deep black rug, is a dramatic, immersive design for a home theater or a game room, and it looks even better on a round rug, as if you were staring down a tunnel of stars. Our round rugs come from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. For more cosmic designs, see our space rugs.
Gold, blue and red
In the original series, a crew member's shirt color showed their role: gold for command, blue for science and medicine, red for engineering and security. Fans famously noticed that the red-shirted crew members on away missions rarely made it home. A color-block rug in gold, blue and red with black is a subtle, stylish nod to the show that suits a study or a minimalist living room, recognizable only to those in the know.
Retro-futuristic consoles
The starship computer screens of the 1980s and 1990s series, curved bars and rounded blocks of orange, peach, lavender and blue on black, became one of the most recognizable looks in TV design. A console-panel rug in that retro-futuristic style is a fun, graphic design for a home office or a gaming setup. Under a rolling chair, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², which stays put and lets the wheels roll. Our office and studio rugs page has more setups.
The bridge
A starship bridge seen from above, the captain's chair in the center, consoles in a ring around it and a viewscreen at the front, makes a clever rug for a game room or a man cave, especially in front of a big screen. Put your own chair in the middle. Our man cave rugs page has more ideas.
Alien worlds
Many classic episodes take place on strange planets with jagged rocks and colored skies, famously filmed on soundstages with painted backdrops. An alien-planet rug, purple rocks under an orange sky with two moons, is a fun design for a kid's room or a bedroom.
The salute
Leonard Nimoy created Spock's famous hand salute, the hand raised with the fingers parted between the middle and ring fingers, based on a gesture he had seen as a boy during a blessing in synagogue. A rug with that raised hand, simple and graphic, is a warm welcome just inside a fan's front door; keep it indoors, out of the weather.
Inspiring real science
Star Trek's influence on real science is remarkable. Its handheld communicators are often credited with inspiring the flip phone, and in 1976, after a campaign by fans, NASA named its first space shuttle test orbiter Enterprise. Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura, later helped NASA recruit women and minority astronauts. A Star Trek rug in a study or a child's room is a nod to the dream of exploration.
A crew for the future
In 1966, the Enterprise bridge was remarkable for who stood on it: a Black woman as communications officer, an Asian American helmsman and, at the height of the Cold War, a Russian navigator, all working side by side. Nichelle Nichols later recalled that when she thought about leaving the show, Martin Luther King Jr. personally encouraged her to stay, because of what her role meant to viewers. That vision of a united future is a big part of why fans love the show.
Where fandom began
Star Trek fans organized some of the earliest fan conventions in the early 1970s, and the community they built helped shape modern fandom, from conventions to fan fiction. A Star Trek rug in a fan cave full of collectibles is a nod to that history.
Pairing with furniture
These rugs suit sleek, futuristic rooms: a black or white swivel chair, metal and glass, LED strips in blue or purple and a shelf of model starships. For a retro look, add an orange accent chair and a few framed vintage space posters of your own.
Home theaters
For a home theater built for marathon nights, a warp starfield or bridge rug in front of the sofa sets the scene. Choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m², for a soft floor to sprawl on. Our home theater rugs page has more ideas.
Game rooms and gaming setups
Under a gaming desk, a console-panel or starfield rug pairs well with blue and purple RGB lighting. Choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft. For more, see our gaming rugs.
Studies and offices
For a scientist, an engineer or a teacher, a uniform-colors rug or a subtle starfield under the desk is a quiet daily reminder to keep exploring and asking questions.
Kids' rooms
For young space fans, an alien-planet or starfield rug makes a bedroom feel like a starship cabin. Pair it with glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. On a hard floor, choose Standard so the rug stays put. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Hallways
A long hallway can become a starship corridor. A custom runner up to 10 ft long with a starfield or a row of retro console panels makes every walk feel like a trip to the bridge. Choose Standard, which stays put as people walk by.
Colors
Star Trek-inspired designs look best in deep space black with command gold, science blue and engineering red, plus the warm orange, peach and lavender of retro consoles.

Gifts
A Star Trek-inspired rug makes a great gift for a lifelong fan, a science teacher or an engineer. A uniform-colors rug is the most subtle; a warp starfield is the most dramatic.
Your own design
Want a starship bridge with your name on the captain's chair, a console panel with your family's stardate birthdays or a starfield sized to your theater room? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use; official insignia, ship designs and stills belong to their owners. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft, and round rugs from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′, including long runners. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that, at sub-light speeds. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the stars stay bright, wash after wash.
Ships named Enterprise
Starfleet keeps passing down one name. The original Enterprise, registry NCC-1701, carried Captain Kirk's crew in the 1960s series. After its destruction, the films introduced the 1701-A, and later generations brought the B and C. Captain Picard commanded the Enterprise-D in The Next Generation and the E in the films, while the prequel series Enterprise featured the NX-01, the first of the line. Other shows added their own famous ships: Voyager, the Defiant of Deep Space Nine and the Discovery.
The name even reached real space history. In 1976, after a letter-writing campaign by fans, NASA named its first space shuttle orbiter Enterprise, and several cast members attended its rollout.
Those registries make clean, stylish rugs. A hull-style registry number, NCC-1701 or the letter of your favorite ship, in white and gray block lettering on a hull-panel texture, is a subtle design for a home office or a study. A line-up of starship silhouettes from different eras turns a hallway into a fleet review, and a deck plan of a bridge, drawn like an engineering schematic, suits a fan's game room.
For a family of fans, a rug that marks the ship each person loves most, with its registry and captain, sparks friendly debates about which Enterprise is best, a debate that has run for decades.
Each captain, Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway or Archer, gives fans a ship and a registry to choose from.
