About Edward Elric Mouse Pads

Edward Elric mouse pads for the desk

Our Edward Elric mouse pads and desk mats carry art inspired by the older Elric brother, the youngest State Alchemist in the history of Amestris, printed edge to edge on 3 mm neoprene with a fabric top, a non-slip base and stitched edges. Choose a compact 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad or go all the way to a 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm) mat; production starts only when you order, so no pad sits in stock waiting.

This page sits under Fullmetal Alchemist and is about Ed alone. Alphonse, Winry, the homunculi, the map of Amestris and the rest of the series are on the Fullmetal Alchemist page, and Roy Mustang has a page of his own.

Red, black and gold

Ed's outfit is one of the most recognizable in anime and one of the easiest to build a desk around. A long red coat over a black jacket and trousers, white gloves, black boots, golden hair tied in a braid and golden eyes: three strong colors and a neutral. Red and black suit a dark gaming setup with red lighting, where the coat becomes the bright point of the desk. Gold on black works under warm white light, and a design that leans on the white gloves and the gold hair can sit on a lighter desk without looking out of place.

The Flamel cross on its own

On the back of the red coat is a symbol: a serpent wound around a cross, with a crown above it and wings on either side, borrowed from old alchemical imagery associated with Nicolas Flamel. It is the simplest way to put Ed on a desk without his face. On the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad, the symbol in black on red, or red on black, placed near the top edge, stays visible while your hand rests on the mouse. Anyone who knows the series sees Ed's coat; anyone who doesn't sees a clean heraldic emblem.

Automail under your mouse hand

Ed's right arm and left leg are automail, steel prosthetics built and maintained by Winry. He lost the leg in the failed attempt to bring back their mother and gave up the arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. On a desk mat, that right arm has a useful coincidence: it sits on the same side as most people's mouse hand. A design with the steel arm reaching toward the right edge of the mat puts automail right under your own right hand, a small joke that only you will notice every time you reach for the mouse.

Gray steel, rivets and plating also give the art a mechanical texture that suits a gunmetal keyboard and silver peripherals.

A clap of the hands

Most alchemists in the series need a drawn circle to transmute anything. Ed doesn't. After seeing the Truth, he can press his palms together and use his own body as the circle, then slap his hands on the ground or turn his automail forearm into a blade. The clap, and the arc of blue light that follows, is his signature move. A design built on that moment, two hands pressed together with sparks rising, works as a small, centered image on a compact pad, or as a burst of blue lightning across a long mat for a desk with cool lighting.

Fullmetal: the title and the watch

Ed becomes a State Alchemist at twelve, and the Führer gives him the title "Fullmetal," a nod to his automail. Like every State Alchemist, he receives a silver pocket watch, and he scratches a private reminder inside its lid: a date, "Don't forget 3. Oct. 11," for the night the brothers burned down their own home in Resembool so they could never turn back. A watch design, closed with its engraved lid or open to show the inscription, has a quiet, personal weight. It suits a study desk or a work desk, and it reads as an elegant antique to anyone who doesn't know what the date means.

Don't call him short

Ed is famously sensitive about his height. Any hint that he is small, from a stranger, a friend or an enemy, sends him into a comic rage, usually drawn in exaggerated chibi style, and he refuses to drink milk. Those scenes are some of the funniest in the series and they make light, cheerful designs: a tiny furious Ed in the corner of a small pad, or a glass of milk he is pushing away. They balance out a desk that otherwise leans serious, and they suit a younger fan's setup.

The braid and the golden eyes

For a portrait, Ed's face carries most of the design. Gold hair, a braid down his back, an antenna-like strand of hair on top and sharp golden eyes that look either determined or furious. Portraits suit the M size, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), where a crop across the eyes runs along the strip above the keyboard, or the 14″ × 24″ (35.5 × 61 cm) size beside a laptop, where a head-and-shoulders portrait has room on all sides.

Ed and Al side by side

The story is built on the bond between the brothers, and a design that pairs them is a natural fit for a long mat. Ed is small, quick and red; Alphonse is tall, quiet and steel gray. Put them at opposite ends of an XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), and the keyboard sits in the space between them, so neither brother ends up hidden. Two siblings sharing a desk can also split it: Ed on one pad, Al on another.

Ed and Winry

Winry Rockbell is Ed's mechanic, his oldest friend and the one person who can scold him into behaving, usually with a wrench thrown at his head. Their scenes are warm, funny and full of workshop clutter: tools, oil and an automail arm in pieces on the bench. A design with Ed and Winry suits a lighter desk and a softer mood than most Fullmetal Alchemist art, and it works as a gift for a couple who watched the series together.

The Gate and the Truth

When Ed attempts human transmutation, he finds himself in a white void in front of an enormous stone gate, facing a smiling white figure that calls itself the Truth. It is the most minimal scene in the series: white space, a dark gate, a single silhouette. That emptiness makes it ideal for a white desk with white peripherals. On the XXL, 23.6″ × 35.4″ (60 × 90 cm), the gate can rise behind the keyboard while the rest of the mat stays almost blank, quiet enough for a work desk and unsettling to anyone who knows the scene.

Resembool, where it started

Ed comes from Resembool, a small farming village in the east of Amestris, all green hills, sheep, dirt roads and the Rockbell house with its automail workshop. It is where the brothers studied their father's books, where they tried to bring their mother back and where they burned their own house down before leaving. Resembool designs are the gentlest Ed art: wide skies, soft greens and a small figure in a red coat walking away down a country road. They suit a light, wooden desk and a calm room, and they carry the bittersweet weight of the whole story without showing a single fight.

Ed in motion

Ed rarely stands still in a fight. He leaps, slides, slaps the ground to raise walls and spears of stone, and swings his automail blade, and the strongest action art catches him mid-movement on a strong diagonal. Diagonals suit wide mats, because the eye travels from one corner to the other across the keyboard rather than stopping at it. On XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), or 4XL, a design with Ed launching from the lower left toward the upper right keeps his figure in the open space at either end, with the keyboard covering only the middle of the jump.

For left-handed desks

If you use the mouse with your left hand, the layout of an Ed design matters more than usual. A portrait looking toward the right edge ends up under your keyboard hand instead of beside your mouse, so choose a mirrored composition or one with Ed at the left end of the mat. The automail joke flips too: on a left-handed desk, the steel arm sits on the keyboard side, which suits a design where it is raised in a clap rather than reaching for the mouse.

Ed at the desk

Ed is a researcher at heart, a boy who reads alchemy texts through the night, and his pad holds up to long sessions. The fabric top gives a smooth, even glide whether you're aiming in a shooter or moving between spreadsheets, the non-slip base keeps the mat in place, and the stitched edges stand up to a forearm resting on the front. For a desk that switches between study and games, the Flamel cross or the pocket watch stays calm by day, while a red-and-black action design comes alive under RGB at night.

Sizes for an Edward Elric desk

A design's product page shows its available sizes. These are the ones that suit Ed.

Gifts for an Ed fan

An Edward Elric pad suits someone who knows his watch inscription by heart, a friend who is also on the short side and takes it with good humor, or anyone who has watched Brotherhood more than once. Choose the coat, the arm or the comedy. If you can't check their desk first, the XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), is a size that rarely ends up too small or too large.

We need 1–3 business days to make it; then it travels from Turkey, typically arriving in the US 2–5 business days after it leaves.

Keeping the red coat red

A quick wipe with a damp cloth removes dust and keeps the black areas from looking gray. For a deeper clean, hand wash the pad in a basin of lukewarm water with a small amount of mild soap, then rinse off every trace of soap. Press the water out with a towel, rather than wringing, and let the pad dry flat. Skip the washing machine, the dryer and the iron entirely; with that routine, the fade-resistant print keeps the coat a deep red.

FAQ

Questions about Edward Elric Mouse Pads

What is the symbol on Edward Elric's coat?

A serpent wound around a cross, with a crown and wings, drawn from old alchemical imagery linked to Nicolas Flamel. On a small pad it works alone, without Ed's face, as a clean emblem.

Which Edward Elric design suits a red RGB setup?

Ed in his red coat against black, mid-clap or with his automail blade out. Red lighting picks up the coat, and a black keyboard blends into the dark background around him.

Is there an Ed design that works on a white desk?

Yes. The Gate of Truth is mostly white space with a dark gate and a pale figure, and it sits easily next to white peripherals. A closed silver pocket watch on cream is another light option.

Where do I find Alphonse and the rest of the series?

On the Fullmetal Alchemist page, with Alphonse's armor, Winry, the military, the homunculi and the map of Amestris. Roy Mustang has his own page under Fullmetal Alchemist.

What size suits an Ed and Al design?

XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm). With one brother at each end, the keyboard sits between them and neither figure disappears under your hands.

Has Square Enix or Bones approved these Edward Elric pads?

No approval exists. Padrift designs them as unofficial art inspired by Ed and prints them to order; Hiromu Arakawa, Square Enix, Bones, Aniplex and Viz Media aren't involved.
