About DC Comics Rugs
Where the superhero began
The superhero as we know it was born at DC. Superman first flew in Action Comics #1 in 1938, and Batman stepped out of the shadows in Detective Comics #27 a year later. Wonder Woman followed in 1941. Together they became the Trinity, and around them grew a universe of heroes and villains that has filled comics, cartoons, films and television for nearly ninety years.
That long history is why DC means something different to everyone: the Adam West series, Batman: The Animated Series after school, Christopher Reeve flying over Metropolis, the Dark Knight trilogy, a stack of comics in a long box. A DC Comics rug brings your version of that universe into the room. Ours are printed into short velvet, so bold comic inks, halftone dots and the sharp edges of a hero's emblem come out crisp, and they go in the washing machine.
Batman and Gotham
Batman is DC's best-known hero, and the most searched DC rug theme by a wide margin. The bat emblem, the Bat-Signal over Gotham's skyline, the cowl, the Batmobile, the gargoyles: few characters have as many strong, graphic symbols. Batman designs are mostly black, grey and gold, which makes them unusually easy to live with in a modern room. You'll find more in our dedicated Batman rugs.
Superman and Metropolis
Superman's shield, the red S on a yellow diamond, is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. A shield rug is bold, bright and optimistic, a natural choice for a kid's room or a cheerful game room. Metropolis designs, the Daily Planet globe, a skyline under a blue sky, are calmer alternatives. See our Superman rugs for more.
Who's your hero?
Every DC fan has a favorite, and each hero brings a different palette to a room:
| Hero | Colors | Room it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Batman | Black, charcoal, gold | Man cave, home theater, modern bedroom |
| Superman | Primary red, blue, yellow | Kid's room, bright game room |
| Wonder Woman | Red, gold, navy, silver stars | A bold bedroom or a girl's room |
| The Flash | Red and lightning yellow | A kid's room or a running fan's den |
| Green Lantern | Emerald green and black | A dark game room with green lighting |
| Aquaman | Orange, green, sea blues | A coastal or blue-toned room |
Wonder Woman and Themyscira
Created by William Moulton Marston and first appearing in 1941, Diana of Themyscira is the most famous female superhero in the world. Her look, the golden tiara with its red star, the eagle on her chest, the silver bracelets and the glowing Lasso of Truth, is full of strong, simple shapes. A Wonder Woman rug can be as bold as her red, gold and blue costume or as elegant as a Greek-inspired design drawn from the island of the Amazons, with laurel, columns and Aegean blue. The double-W emblem on a round rug is a striking choice for a bedroom or a reading nook.
Choosing an emblem or a scene
DC designs fall into two families. Emblems, the bat, the S-shield, the lightning bolt, the lantern, are graphic, simple and work in almost any room, especially on round or shaped rugs. Scenes, Gotham at night, a Justice League line-up, a comic page, are richer and more personal but busier, and they look best as a centerpiece with plain furniture around them. If the room already has posters, figures and framed covers, choose an emblem; if the rug is the main event, choose a scene.
The villains
DC's villains are as famous as its heroes, and many fans prefer them. The Joker, in purple and green, is the most popular, from the comics to Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix's performances. Harley Quinn, created for Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 before joining the comics, is beloved for her red-and-black diamonds and her chaos. Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Lex Luthor and Darkseid all have their followings. A villain rug, especially the Joker's purple and green, makes a bolder statement than any hero.
The Justice League
The Justice League brings DC's heroes together: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter. A League design, all the emblems together or a team line-up, is the right choice for a shared room where everyone has a different favorite, or for a younger fan who simply loves them all.
Comic panels and pop art
Before the films, DC was ink on paper, and its comic style is a design language of its own: thick black outlines, bold primaries, halftone Ben-Day dots, speech bubbles and sound effects. A comic-panel rug, a page of action or a cover in vintage colors, has a playful, pop-art look that suits living rooms as well as kids' rooms. It sits naturally beside our pop art rugs, which borrow from the same visual vocabulary.
The ages of DC
Comic collectors divide DC history into eras, and each has its look. The Golden Age of the 1930s and 1940s is flat, bright and innocent. The Silver Age, from the late 1950s, brought science fiction and the modern Flash and Green Lantern. The Bronze Age grew darker and more grounded, and the Modern Age gave us The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen and The Killing Joke. Choosing a rug from your favorite era is a nice nod for a collector: vintage covers for Golden Age fans, gritty inks for Modern Age readers.
The darker shelf
DC also published some of the most celebrated adult comics ever made, many under its Vertigo imprint: Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, Alan Moore's Watchmen and Swamp Thing, Hellblazer with John Constantine, Preacher. Their art is moodier, more painterly and often surreal, Dream's pale face and starry cloak, Rorschach's shifting mask, the doomsday clock. For readers whose DC is on that shelf, these designs make some of the most sophisticated comic rugs there are, at home in a study or a library as easily as in a game room.
For comic collectors
Serious collectors keep long boxes, graded slabs and framed covers. A rug in front of the collection does what a good frame does, setting it off and giving visitors somewhere to stand. Keep the rug design simpler than the covers on the wall, an emblem or a single hero rather than a busy page, so the collection stays the star.
DC on screen
For many fans, DC is a film and television universe as much as a comic one. Tim Burton's gothic Gotham, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Matt Reeves's The Batman, the animated series of the 1990s and the new DC Studios films each have a distinct visual style. A rug inspired by a favorite screen version, Burton's art deco Gotham or the Animated Series' red skies, is a perfect fit for a home theater.
The man cave
DC is a man-cave classic: a Batman rug under the bar stools, a Bat-Signal glowing on the wall, a framed Joker poster by the door. Batman's black and gold works especially well with leather sofas, dark wood and warm amber lighting. Browse our man cave rugs for more ideas for the room around it.
Kids' rooms
Superheroes are a natural theme for children's rooms, and DC's emblems are bright, simple and easy for young kids to recognize. A Superman shield, a Wonder Woman star or the Flash's lightning bolt on a round rug is a cheerful play area that grows with the child. Choose Standard if the rug goes on a slippery floor, since its non-slip faux leather back grips, and remember that every rug goes in the washing machine after a juice spill.
DC and Marvel
Plenty of households have both. If you're a fan of both universes, our Marvel rugs sit happily alongside, and a split design, one wall DC, one wall Marvel, is a classic way to settle a family argument.
Sizes and levels
Under a desk or gaming chair, choose Standard in 3.3×5 or 4×6 ft: its 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back lets wheels roll freely and stays put. In a living room or home theater, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, in 5×7 ft. An emblem on a 3.9 to 5.2 ft (120 to 160 cm) round rug suits a kid's room or a doorway.
Gifts
A DC rug is one of the easiest pop-culture gifts to get right: almost everyone has a favorite hero or villain. If you don't know theirs, Batman's emblem is the safest bet. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that.
Care
Vacuum on a low setting each week, blot spills with cold water straight away and wash the rug on a gentle, cold cycle when it needs it; let it air dry flat. The design is printed into the fibers, so the comic inks stay bold.
A note on the characters
Headquarters and hideouts
DC's heroes need places to gather. The Hall of Justice, made famous by the Super Friends cartoons of the 1970s and 1980s, became the Justice League's public headquarters, and the Watchtower, a base on the Moon or in orbit, watches over Earth. Superman has the Fortress of Solitude in the Arctic, and Batman, of course, has the Batcave. A rug of a grand domed hall, an orbital station above the Earth or an icy crystal fortress turns a room into a headquarters of its own.

Yes. Batman rugs and Superman rugs each have their own page; this page gathers designs from across the DC universe, from the Justice League to the villains.
Which DC villains make the best rugs?
The Joker in purple and green and Harley Quinn in red-and-black diamonds are the favorites. Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Darkseid suit fans who prefer deeper cuts.
Which DC rug suits a kid's room?
A Superman shield, a Wonder Woman star or the Flash's lightning bolt on a round rug. Choose Standard on slippery floors for its non-slip back.
Is there a DC design that works in a living room?
