About Barbie Rugs
Think pink
For more than sixty years, one shade of hot pink has meant just one thing: Barbie. A Barbie-inspired rug brings that bold, joyful, unapologetically pink world into a room, with a hot pink and white checkerboard, a Malibu sunset with palm trees, retro sixties flowers or a bright pink round rug that turns a bedroom into a dream house. Ours are printed edge to edge on soft velvet, so the pinks come out vivid and saturated, and every rug goes in the washing machine. To be clear from the start: these are independent designs inspired by the style, not official Barbie products, and they don't use the brand's logo.

The story of Barbie
Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, one of the founders of the toy company Mattel, after she noticed her daughter, Barbara, playing with paper dolls and imagining them as grown-ups. The first Barbie made her debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959, wearing a black-and-white striped swimsuit and a ponytail. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, and her boyfriend Ken, introduced in 1961, was named after Ruth's son. Over the decades, Barbie has had hundreds of careers, from doctor to president, and she became an astronaut in 1965, four years before anyone walked on the Moon.
The pink
Barbie's hot pink, a vivid magenta-pink often matched to Pantone 219 C, became her signature in the 1970s and has been part of her world ever since. It's a happy, energetic color that instantly lifts a room. On a rug, a solid hot pink or a pink and white pattern becomes the bold anchor of a bedroom, with everything else kept simple around it.
Barbiecore
When Greta Gerwig's Barbie film, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, arrived in 2023, it became the highest-grossing film of the year worldwide and turned hot pink into a full-blown trend, nicknamed Barbiecore. Its pink sets were so lavish that the production was widely reported to have contributed to a shortage of one brand of fluorescent pink paint. A Barbie-inspired rug is the easiest way to bring that playful, maximal pink into a living room, a bedroom or a dorm.
Hot pink checkerboards
A pink and white checkerboard is fun, graphic and retro all at once, and it suits a teen room or a dorm. It works with white furniture, pink bedding and a few gold accents. For more checks in every color, see our checkered rugs.
Pink gingham
A soft pink and white gingham, the classic picnic check, is a gentler, sweeter take on the look. It suits a little girl's bedroom or a nursery, pairing beautifully with white wicker, ruffled bedding and a few flowers.
Malibu sunsets
Barbie has been a California girl since Malibu Barbie, with her tan and her sunglasses, arrived in 1971. A Malibu sunset rug, palm trees silhouetted against a pink and orange sky, brings that sunny beach spirit into a bedroom or a beach house. For more seaside designs, see our coastal rugs.
A dream house of your own
Barbie's first dream house arrived in 1962, a cardboard house with mid-century furniture, and it has grown bigger and pinker ever since. A pink rug is the easiest way to turn a real bedroom into one: a pink round rug in the middle, a white or pink bed, a vanity with a light-up mirror and a few retro touches. Our bedroom rugs page has more layouts.
Retro sixties flowers
Barbie was born at the end of the fifties and grew up through the swinging sixties, and the bright daisies and mod flowers of that era fit her world perfectly. A retro flower rug in hot pink, orange and white is a cheerful choice for a bedroom or a living room. For more designs from the era, see our retro rugs.
Hearts and stars
A pink rug scattered with hearts and stars, printed with a sparkly, glittery look, is a favorite for little girls' bedrooms and party rooms. It's printed velvet, so there's no real glitter to shed, just soft, washable shine. For more sweet designs, see our cute rugs.
Girls' bedrooms
For a young Barbie fan, a hot pink rug is the heart of the room. Pair it with white furniture, pink and purple bedding, a dollhouse corner and a few framed fashion prints. On a hard floor, choose Standard, 5 mm crushed velvet on a non-slip faux leather back, about 500 g/m², so the rug stays put during play. For a softer feel in a bedroom, choose Premium, 7 mm plush velvet on a bamboo and cotton back, about 700 g/m².
Dolls and play
A pink rug makes a perfect stage for doll play: a dream house, a runway and a pool party all in one. A checkerboard rug can even become a dance floor or a fashion show catwalk for dolls. Our kids play rugs page has more ideas.
Teen rooms and dorms
For teens and college students, a hot pink checkerboard or a Malibu sunset brings instant personality to a small room. Choose Standard on a hard dorm floor, and pair it with pink string lights, a fluffy pillow and a few framed posters.
Barbiecore living rooms
For grown-ups who love pink, a hot pink rug in a living room is a confident, joyful statement. Pair it with a white or blush sofa, gold accents, a few retro lamps and a bold piece of art. A pink round rug under a coffee table, or a 5×7 ft checkerboard, keeps the look playful.
Vanities and salons
In front of a makeup vanity, a small pink round rug finishes a glamorous beauty corner. In a nail salon, a lash studio or a boutique, a pink checkerboard at reception adds a fun, photogenic touch. Our office and studio rugs page has more ideas.
Parties and photos
A hot pink rug is a perfect backdrop for a birthday party, a bachelorette party or a themed photo shoot, adding instant color to pictures. Since it goes in the washing machine, spilled cake and drinks aren't a disaster.
Keeping pink bright
Hot pink is one of the colors most sensitive to strong, direct sunlight. To keep it vivid for years, place the rug out of the full afternoon sun where you can, wash it on a cold cycle and let it dry flat indoors rather than in bright sunshine.
Shared rooms and siblings
For sisters sharing a room, a pink and lavender checkerboard or two matching round rugs, one beside each bed, keeps things fair. For a room shared with a brother, a soft blush and white gingham or a Malibu sunset is a friendly middle ground.
Hallways and entryways
Down a hallway, a custom pink checkerboard runner up to 10 ft long makes a fun, photogenic catwalk. Just inside the front door, keep a rug indoors, out of the weather. Choose Standard for both, for its grip on hard floors.
Colors
The core palette is hot pink and white, with soft blush, bubblegum, lavender, sky blue and gold as companions. Hot pink and white is the boldest; blush and white is the softest; pink and orange feels the most retro and sunny.

Your own design
Want a pink rug with your daughter's name in a bubbly script, a checkerboard in your exact shade of pink or a design for a birthday party? Our custom rugs can print it in any size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut it to shape. Please only send artwork you're allowed to use, which rules out brand logos you don't own. Custom rugs are made just for you and can't be returned.
Sizes, shipping and returns
Rectangles come in 2×3, 2.6×3.9, 3.3×5, 4×6 and 5×7 ft, and round rugs from 2.6 to 5.9 ft (80 to 180 cm) across. Custom sizes go up to 5′11″ × 10′. Every rug is printed to order in 1–3 business days and ships from Turkey; US delivery usually takes 2–5 business days after that. Unused rugs can be returned within 30 days on US orders; custom rugs can't be returned.
Care
Machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle and let it air dry flat. Vacuum on a low setting between washes, and blot spills with cold water right away. The design is printed into the fibers, so the pink stays bright, wash after wash.
A note on the brand
Space-age pink
Barbie has tried hundreds of careers since 1959, and one of her earliest was in space: an astronaut doll arrived in 1965, years before anyone walked on the Moon. That mix of pink and science fiction makes a fun design direction, a retro rocket in hot pink and silver, a pink planet with rings, or stars scattered across a magenta sky.
A space-age pink rug suits a girl's bedroom that loves both glitter and rockets, a teen room with a retro streak, or a playroom where dolls and spaceships share the floor. Pair it with silver accents, white furniture and a starry night light, and it reads as playful rather than babyish.
For a grown-up Barbiecore living room, the same idea works in a softer way: a pale pink rug with a scatter of tiny silver stars or a simple ringed planet, so the space looks dreamy rather than themed.
For a playroom where dolls go on adventures, a pink planet rug also gives toys a launch pad: rockets, astronaut dolls and toy aliens can land on it, and imaginations take over from there.

FAQ
Questions about Barbie Rugs
Are these official Barbie rugs?
No. They are Barbie-inspired designs printed by Padrift, an independent studio. We are not affiliated with Mattel, and these are not Barbie products.
Do you make hot pink rugs?
Yes. Solid hot pink rounds, pink and white checkerboards, pink gingham and pink retro flowers, in any of our sizes.
Do you make pink checkerboard rugs?
Yes. Bold hot pink and white or softer blush and white checks, popular for teen rooms, dorms and playrooms.
Will the pink fade in the wash?
The design is printed into the fibers. Wash on a gentle cold cycle and air dry flat, out of strong sun, to keep the pink bright.
Is the sparkly design real glitter?
No. The sparkle on our pink designs is printed, not glued on, so nothing sheds onto the floor and the rug can still go through a gentle cold machine wash.
Can I add my daughter's name to a pink rug?
Yes. Her name can go in retro script across a hot pink checkerboard or inside a heart, on any custom size up to 5′11″ × 10′, or cut to a shape. Name rugs can't be returned, so check the spelling first.
Which size suits a girl's bedroom?
A 4×6 ft rug suits most kids' bedrooms; a 3.9 to 4.6 ft (120 to 140 cm) round rug works well in a smaller room or a reading nook.
Do you make Malibu sunset rugs?
Yes. Palm trees silhouetted against a pink and orange sky, a sunny design for bedrooms and beach houses.
