About Thorfinn Mouse Pads
Thorfinn mouse pads for the desk
Padrift's Thorfinn mouse pads and desk mats are original art inspired by the hero of Vinland Saga. The art covers the whole surface of a 3 mm neoprene pad, fabric on top and a non-slip base underneath, with stitching all the way around the border so it doesn't fray. Go as small as 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) for a mouse corner or as large as 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm) for a whole desk; each pad is made only after someone orders it.
This is a character page beneath Vinland Saga, so it stays with Thorfinn and the choices that shape him. For the mercenaries, the Danish court, the longships and the history behind the story, step one level up to the Vinland Saga page.
One name, two lives
Thorfinn is the son of Thors and Helga, raised on the Icelandic coast with his older sister, Ylva. When Thors is killed in an ambush on his way back to the war he once left, the boy, who had stowed away on his father's ship, follows the man responsible and joins his crew, determined to kill him one day in a fair duel.
From there his story breaks into two halves that barely look like the same person. In the first, he is a feral teenager who lives for that duel and nothing else. In the second, after the duel is taken from him, he is a slave on a Danish farm, hollow at first and then slowly, stubbornly trying to become someone who doesn't kill. Picking a Thorfinn design mostly means picking which half of him you want looking up at you from the desk.
The twin daggers
The young Thorfinn fights with short blades, usually a pair, and one of them is the dagger his father left behind. He is small and light, so he never trades blows with bigger men. He goes low, leaps, rolls under a swing and strikes before his opponent has finished turning around.
Two crossed daggers on the small 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad sit above the palm and can be read from across a room. On a long mat the blades work as lines instead: one along the top edge, one angled down the far side, so they frame the keyboard rather than vanish beneath it. Keep the steel gray and the grips leather brown on a black ground, and you have a design that suits a dark gaming desk without a single face on it.
Built for speed
Art of the young Thorfinn is mostly motion: a body coiled close to the ground, hair streaming, a blade blurred at the end of an arm. Those compositions run on diagonals from a lower corner to an upper one, and they read best when the diagonal points away from your mouse, so the action carries past your hand instead of stopping at it.
A fast diagonal across the XL size, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), suits a shooter or action-game desk where the mouse moves almost as quickly as he does. The fabric top lets a low-sensitivity sweep travel the full width without snagging, and the base keeps the mat from creeping during a hard flick.
The glare people call bloodlust
Fans have a name for the young Thorfinn's expression: bloodlust. It is the scowl he wears through most of the first season, eyes narrowed, teeth showing, face streaked with dirt or worse, aimed at the man he means to kill or at anyone who stands in the way.
On a desk, a bloodlust portrait is the most intense design in his range, and it belongs on a dark mat. Red or deep orange lighting deepens the shadows around his eyes; cool white light makes the image colder and more hostile. Either way, put his face at the end of the mat away from the mouse hand, where it glares at the screen instead of disappearing under your palm.
Living for the duel
For years Thorfinn serves the very man he hates. Askeladd pays him in duels: each time the boy brings back an enemy commander's head or finishes some other dangerous job, he earns a single fight, and each time he loses it. It is a cruel arrangement, and it sits at the center of the first season.
A design that sets the two of them against each other uses the keyboard as the ground between them: the mercenary leader relaxed and smiling on one side, Thorfinn crouched with both blades on the other. An M, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), or an XL gives each figure its own end, and it suits anyone who rewatched season one for the duels alone.
When the duel never comes
Spoilers for the close of the first season: the fight Thorfinn has lived for never happens. Askeladd dies by another hand, and Thorfinn is suddenly left with nothing to aim at. He lunges at Canute in a rage, is overpowered and ends up sold into slavery. The boy who existed only to kill one man now has to find out whether anyone is left once that man is gone.
Art from that moment is still and empty: a slumped figure, a fallen blade, a colorless sky. It is too bleak for most desks, but in a small dose, one dropped dagger on a dark pad, it carries the whole turn of the story for anyone who knows it.
The farmhand
On Ketil's farm Thorfinn fells trees, pulls stumps and breaks soil beside Einar, a fellow slave who wants nothing to do with him at first. His nights are crowded with the men he killed, and his days with work. Little by little, the work starts to mean something, and the friendship that grows out of it becomes the center of his new life.
Older Thorfinn designs are calm: a lean, scarred young man leaning on a hoe at the edge of a clearing, or walking a forest path with an axe over his shoulder for timber rather than war. Soil brown, bark gray and the pale yellow of new shoots make up the palette. They suit a wooden desk, a study corner or a work setup where you want a character who looks steady instead of furious.
I have no enemies
When Thorfinn was small, his father told him that nobody truly has enemies, that there is no one in the world you are allowed to hurt. The child didn't understand. The grown man, after everything he has done, takes those words as his own and says them aloud, and the line marks how far he has come.
A lettering design built on that idea, a few words in plain type on a dark or wheat-colored ground, is the most understated way to carry Thorfinn on a desk. It fits the small pad or the 14″ × 24″ (35.5 × 61 cm) size beside a laptop, and to anyone who hasn't seen the series it reads simply as a calm sentence printed on a mat.
Iceland, where he started
Thorfinn's childhood is a short stretch of the story, and it is what he spends the rest of it trying to get back to in spirit: a small village on a cold coast, a sister who teases him, a mother waiting at home and an old sailor's stories of a warm land somewhere to the west.
A child Thorfinn design, a small boy on a rock watching gray water, is gentle enough for a younger fan's desk and carries a great deal for an adult who knows what comes next. Black sand, green turf and a wide, pale sky give a light palette that sits well on a white desk with white peripherals.
Vinland as a promise
In the later part of the manga, Thorfinn's goal becomes concrete: sail west and found a settlement in Vinland where no one is a slave and no one needs a sword. It is the dream an old explorer planted in him as a child, finally turned into a plan.
Art of that dream usually shows Thorfinn from behind, facing a green coast across open water. The composition is made for a desk mat. The horizon runs above the keyboard, the figure stands at one end and the empty sea fills the space your hands use. On a deep desk, choose the XXL, 23.6″ × 35.4″ (60 × 90 cm), so the sky has room above the far shore.
Gaming or studying with Thorfinn
Pick the half of his life that matches what the desk is for. The young, furious Thorfinn suits competitive games, late ranked sessions and dark setups lit in red. The older farmhand suits revision, reading and a desk that hosts video calls, because a quiet figure in a field doesn't pull anyone's eye away from a shared screen. Both sit on the same 3 mm cushion under your wrist and the same grippy base on a smooth desk.
If one desk does both jobs, a typography or dagger design is the compromise: plain enough for a lecture, sharp enough for a match.
Sizes for a Thorfinn desk
Sizes vary from design to design, and each product page shows the ones on offer. Here is how the common setups line up with Thorfinn art.
| Setup | Size | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Mouse only | S, 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) | Crossed daggers above the palm |
| Laptop desk | TCG Mat, 14″ × 24″ (35.5 × 61 cm) | A short line of words on a plain ground |
| Compact keyboard | M, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm) | The boy and the mercenary at opposite ends |
| Keyboard and mouse | XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm) | A diagonal leap aimed away from the mouse |
| Deep desk | XXL, 23.6″ × 35.4″ (60 × 90 cm) | Facing the western coast above the keys |
| The whole desk | 4XL, 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm) | Both halves of his life, side by side |
On a long desk with little depth, an L at 11.8″ × 31.5″ (30 × 80 cm) lets a blade or a leap stretch further than the M allows, and a 3XL at 19.7″ × 39.4″ (50 × 100 cm) gives the farm years a wider field than the XL.
Gifts for a Thorfinn fan
A Thorfinn pad suits someone who quotes his father, someone who stayed with the second season when friends gave up on it or a reader who followed him all the way west. Choose the young fighter for a gamer and the farmhand for a student or a reader. If you can't see their desk first, the 14″ × 24″ (35.5 × 61 cm) size fits beside nearly any keyboard and still holds a full portrait.
The order goes to print right away and takes 1–3 business days to finish; from Turkey, a US delivery then usually needs 2–5 business days more, so give a birthday gift about two weeks.
Caring for a dark pad
Black grounds and red accents hide sweat and dust well, while the pale farm designs show a wrist patch sooner. Wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth every week or so. When it needs more, hand wash it in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, rinse it well, squeeze the water out by pressing it inside a towel, then let it dry lying flat. It shouldn't go in a washer or a dryer, and it never needs ironing.
A note on names

FAQ
Questions about Thorfinn Mouse Pads
Which Thorfinn suits a gaming setup, young or older?
The young Thorfinn. His twin daggers, diagonal leaps and bloodlust glare belong on a dark mat with red or orange lighting, while the older farmhand is calmer and better for study or work.
How do I place Thorfinn's daggers on a desk mat?
On a small pad, cross them near the top so your palm doesn't cover them. On a long mat, run one blade along the top edge and angle the other down the far side, framing the keyboard.
Is there a calm Thorfinn design for studying?
Choose the farm years: a scarred young man resting on a hoe at the edge of a clearing, in browns and pale yellows. A short line of plain lettering on a wheat-colored ground is quieter still.
Where are Askeladd, Canute and the longships?
One level up, on the Vinland Saga page. That page covers the mercenary band, Thorkell, the Danish court, Leif Erikson and the ships, while this one stays with Thorfinn alone.
What lighting goes with a bloodlust Thorfinn pad?
Red or deep orange deepens the shadows around his eyes and keeps the mood hot; cool white turns the same portrait colder. Either way, a black keyboard keeps the focus on his face.
Is this Thorfinn pad licensed by the Vinland Saga team?
No license is involved. Padrift drew this Thorfinn art itself and prints each pad to order, and neither Makoto Yukimura nor Kodansha, Wit Studio or MAPPA produced, approved or sponsored it.
