About Overlord Mouse Pads

Overlord mouse pads for the desk

Padrift's Overlord mouse pads and desk mats carry original art inspired by Kugane Maruyama's story of an undead sorcerer and the tomb he rules, printed edge to edge on 3 mm neoprene with a fabric top, a non-slip base and a stitched border. Eight sizes are available, starting at an 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad for the mouse and ending at a 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm) mat broad enough for a keyboard, a mouse and a headset stand, and each pad is printed fresh for the order behind it.

The page covers the whole series: Ainz and his guild, Albedo and the Floor Guardians, the battle maids, the adventurer Momon, the villages and kingdoms of the New World and the deep floors of the Great Tomb of Nazarick.

From Momonga to Ainz Ooal Gown

Overlord began as a web novel and has been published as a light novel series since 2012, written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. Madhouse adapted it for television in 2015, followed by a second and a third season in 2018, a fourth in 2022 and the film Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom in 2024.

The story starts on a server's last night. The online game Yggdrasil is shutting down, and Momonga, guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown, stays logged in to the very end, seated on the throne of the guild's base. When the clock runs out, nothing ends. He is still inside his avatar, a skeletal spellcaster, the base has been carried into an unknown world, and every character the guild ever created now thinks and speaks for itself. He renames himself after the guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, and starts playing the part of a ruler, mostly because everyone around him expects it.

The man behind the skull

Under the robe, Ainz is Satoru Suzuki, an ordinary office worker whose guild was the brightest part of his life. Every time a guardian praises a scheme he never planned, he nods gravely and panics inside, and his undead body flattens any strong emotion before it can show. Demiurge, the cleverest of his servants, keeps reading genius into his offhand remarks, and Ainz keeps going along with it.

That gap between the throne and the man on it is the reason Overlord works on a work desk as well as a gaming one. Anyone who has nodded through a meeting they didn't fully follow will recognize the feeling, and a skeleton king beside your keyboard is a fair joke about pretending to have a plan.

Black, purple and gold

Overlord's palette is the palette of its hero: bone white, a black robe trimmed in purple and gold, and two points of red light where his eyes should be. It is heavy, regal and dark, which makes it one of the easier anime palettes to build a gaming desk around. Black peripherals disappear into the robe, a gold or brass accent picks up the trim, and purple lighting turns the whole mat into a throne room after dark.

If you'd rather not go fully dark, look for designs where gold carries more of the weight. A gold-on-black layout looks rich rather than grim and suits a desk that also sees spreadsheets and video calls.

Where Ainz sits on the mat

Ainz is tall, robed and imposing, and his most recognizable feature is his skull, so placement matters. On a long mat, keep him at the end away from your mouse hand: on the left for a right-handed player, standing beside the keyboard where the skull and the red eye lights stay visible all day. Put him under the mouse instead and your palm rests on his face for hours.

On the 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad, a full figure gets crowded. A head-and-shoulders view of the skull and the high collar of his robe, set toward the top edge, does the job and leaves the lower half of the pad for your hand.

Albedo in white and black

Albedo, the Overseer of the Floor Guardians, is the other face of Overlord. She wears a long white dress, has black hair, curved horns and a pair of black wings folded at her waist, and her devotion to Ainz is so extreme that the series plays it for comedy and for menace in roughly equal parts.

Her colors flip the series' usual scheme. Where Ainz is dark with gold, Albedo is mostly white with black accents, so she is the natural pick for a white or light gray desk. A design that shows her the way the anime usually does, in the white dress, suits a shared office or a family room as well as a gaming corner. Put her toward the top of an XL so the dress and the wings frame the keyboard instead of disappearing under it.

Floor by floor

The Great Tomb of Nazarick has ten floors, and the guardians and servants who keep them each bring a palette of their own.

  • Shalltear Bloodfallen: a vampire in black and crimson gothic dress, guardian of the upper floors, for a desk with red keycaps or red lighting.
  • Cocytus: a towering insect warrior in pale ice blue who rules a frozen floor, for a white or blue setup under cool light.
  • Aura and Mare: dark elf twins who keep the forest floor and its arena, in greens, browns and gold, for a wooden desk with plants.
  • Demiurge: a demon in an orange suit and round glasses, master of a floor of fire, for warm lighting and a walnut desk.
  • Sebas Tian: the white-haired head butler in his dark suit, for a tidy desk in black, white and gray.

One guardian makes a clearer mat than all of them at once. If you want the whole roster, choose a 4XL, 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm), so each figure gets its own stretch of desk.

The Pleiades on a long mat

The Pleiades are Nazarick's combat maids, sisters in black and white maid uniforms fitted with pieces of armor, each with her own weapon and her own odd temperament. Narberal Gamma, the one with the long black ponytail, travels with Ainz in disguise; Yuri Alpha, the eldest, keeps her glasses straight and her gauntlets ready.

A row of maids is made for a long, shallow mat. On an M, 11.8″ × 27.6″ (30 × 70 cm), they can stand shoulder to shoulder along the top edge, and the black-and-white uniforms match a monochrome keyboard without any effort.

Momon, the dark warrior

To learn about the New World without revealing what he is, Ainz puts on a disguise: Momon, an adventurer in full black plate armor with a crimson cape and two greatswords, traveling with Narberal under the name Nabe. The act works so well that Momon becomes a celebrated hero in the city of E-Rantel, one of the series' running ironies.

Momon's armor is the choice when you want something darker and simpler than a robe full of trim. A black knight against a gray sky, cape moving in the wind, gives an XL a strong silhouette at one end and plenty of quiet space for the keyboard.

A guild master's gaming desk

Even after years in the New World, Ainz thinks like a player. He sorts magic into tiers, worries about what a rival might have equipped and prepares for a fight the way you prepare for a raid, with buffs, counters and an exit route. That makes Overlord unusually at home on a gaming desk, especially one used for MMOs, where planning and a busy guild chat are part of the evening.

The fabric top gives a steady glide in mouse-heavy games, and the non-slip base keeps a long mat in place when you lean on it late in a session. On a 4XL, the keyboard, the mouse, a stream controller and a notepad for raid notes all share one surface.

Spell circles

When Ainz reaches for his strongest magic, huge glowing circles of runes open up around him, layer on layer. They are among the series' most striking images and translate well into desk art, because a circle needs no face or figure to be recognizable.

A spell circle design works in two ways. Centered on a large mat, it surrounds the keyboard with rings of light. Cropped to a quarter arc on the S size, it gives a mouse-only pad a glowing corner. Blue-white circles suit cool lighting; gold ones suit warm.

Pandora's Actor

Pandora's Actor is the one guardian Momonga created himself back in Yggdrasil, a shapeshifting doppelganger who guards the treasury in a dramatic officer's uniform, salutes with a flourish and drops German phrases into his speech. Ainz gave him that personality years ago, when it seemed cool, and now has to watch it performed in front of him.

His smooth, egg-shaped face with three dark holes is simple enough to work as a single icon. A small pad with Pandora's Actor mid-salute suits anyone who still has an old username or character sheet they would rather not see again.

Carne Village and the gentler side

Ainz's first act in the New World is to save Carne Village, a small farming settlement at the edge of a forest, from soldiers attacking it. Enri Emmot, a village girl, and her younger sister Nemu are the first people he meets, and Enri ends up leading a band of goblins summoned with a horn he gives her.

Carne is Overlord at its lightest: wooden houses, fences, fields and the green edge of the Great Forest of Tob. It suits a light oak desk and daylight far more than any scene from the tomb, and it is a good fit for a study desk where the dark palette would feel heavy.

The seasons in color

Each stretch of the anime changes the backdrop, which gives you a range of palettes to match a desk.

  • Season 1 (2015): the tomb awakening, Carne Village and the plains around E-Rantel, in black, gold and field green.
  • Season 2 (2018): the lizardmen's marshes and the night streets of the kingdom's capital, in murky greens and lamplit browns.
  • Season 3 (2018): the Baharuth Empire and the fog of the Katze Plains, in gray mist and pale stone.
  • Season 4 (2022): the new Sorcerous Kingdom and the dwarven cities in the mountains, in stone, bronze and firelight.

Symbols for a small pad

Some Overlord art needs no full figure. The guild staff, a golden rod with snakes twisting around it, each holding a gem, stands up well on its own down one side of an S pad. A plain skull with two red points of light, on black, is about as minimal as the series gets and still reads instantly. Both leave the center of an 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) pad clear for the mouse, and both simply look like dark fantasy to anyone who has never watched an episode.

Sizes for an Overlord desk

Not every design is printed in all eight sizes, so look at the list on the design you like. For Overlord art, here is what each size does well.

Between those steps sit L, 11.8″ × 31.5″ (30 × 80 cm), and 3XL, 19.7″ × 39.4″ (50 × 100 cm), the first for a narrow desktop that M leaves a little short, the second for a wide desk that isn't deep enough for XXL.

Gifts for an Overlord fan

An Overlord pad suits someone who has read the light novels past the point where the anime stops, someone who still talks about their old MMO guild, or a friend who laughs at Ainz's inner panic every time the guardians praise a plan he never made. Pick Albedo or the Pleiades for a lighter desk, Momon or the skull for a dark one and Pandora's Actor for someone with a sense of humor about their teenage self. If you have never seen their setup, XL, 15.7″ × 35.4″ (40 × 90 cm), covers the keyboard-and-mouse area of nearly every desk without hanging off the front.

Production takes 1–3 business days once the order is in. Shipping from Turkey then takes 2–5 business days, as a rule, to reach a US door, so give yourself about two weeks before a birthday.

Caring for a dark mat

Black and purple designs keep their depth for a long time but show pale dust and pet hair. Run a slightly damp cloth over the surface every week or so. When it needs more than that, wash it by hand in a basin of lukewarm water with a little mild soap, rinse until no suds remain, press it between towels to draw out the water and lay it flat until it is dry. Never put it in a washing machine or a dryer, and keep the iron well away from it.

A note on names

Overlord, Ainz Ooal Gown, Nazarick and the names of the series' characters are mentioned only to describe what inspired our art. Padrift has no affiliation with Kugane Maruyama, so-bin, Kadokawa or Madhouse, and none of them sponsors or endorses these pads.

FAQ

Questions about Overlord Mouse Pads

Which Overlord design suits a white desk?

Albedo. Her white dress and black wings reverse the series' dark palette, so she sits naturally on a white or light gray desk; place her toward the top of the mat so the keyboard doesn't hide her.

Where should Ainz go on a long desk mat?

At the end away from your mouse hand, beside the keyboard. For a right-handed player that is the left side, where the skull and red eye lights stay visible and your palm never rests on them.

Which lighting color matches an Overlord mat?

Purple deepens the trim of Ainz's robe and the shadows of the tomb. Warm gold or amber light suits designs with a lot of gold in them, and red picks up Shalltear's crimson.

Is an Overlord desk mat a good fit for MMO raids?

Yes. A 4XL, 23.6″ × 47.2″ (60 × 120 cm), takes a keyboard, a mouse and a notepad side by side, the fabric top keeps the glide even, and the non-slip base holds the mat still when you lean on it.

Which Overlord art works on a small pad?

A plain skull with two red points of light, the golden guild staff or Pandora's Actor mid-salute. Each reads clearly on 11.8″ × 15.7″ (30 × 40 cm) and leaves the middle free for the mouse.

Are these official Overlord products?

They aren't. Padrift draws its own Overlord-inspired art and prints it on its own pads, with no involvement from Kugane Maruyama, so-bin, Kadokawa or Madhouse.
