Custom wall art is a poster, a canvas print or a framed piece made from an image you choose instead of a ready-made design: a family photo, a wedding picture, your pet, a place you've travelled to, a drawing by your kids, your own illustration or a piece of fan art. Every piece on this page is printed to order from the file you upload, edge to edge, with no white border.

You don't order blind from a flat thumbnail. You place your image, choose the style, size and finish, see the piece in 3D, and on a phone you can hang it on your own wall in AR at its real size before anything is printed. All three are printed from the same file with the same matte, glare-free finish; what changes is what it's printed on and how it hangs.

• Poster (Print Only): your image on 170 gsm matte paper, unframed, to put in a frame you already own or one you buy. The cheapest way to put a photo on the wall, and every size is a standard frame size.
• Canvas print: your image on cotton-polyester canvas, gallery-wrapped around an FSC wood stretcher frame, 2 cm (Slim) or 4 cm (Thick) deep. No frame needed: it arrives ready to hang with a hanging kit in the box.
• Framed canvas: the same Slim canvas set inside a solid wood float frame in Natural Wood, Dark Brown or Black, with a small gap between canvas and frame for a floating, gallery look. It arrives assembled, with a hanging kit in the box.

A custom poster is the simplest way to turn a photo into wall art. We print it edge to edge on classic uncoated matte paper, 170 gsm and 0.19 mm thick, FSC-certified, with a smooth, non-reflective surface that keeps window and lamp glare off the picture.

Posters come in seven sizes, 8×10, 11×14, 12×18, 16×20, 18×24, 20×30 and 24×36 inches, all common standard frame sizes, so an off-the-shelf frame fits. Each one is shown with its centimetre size in the size menu. Your poster ships rolled in a sturdy tube rather than folded, so it arrives without a crease; let it flatten under a light weight before framing.

A custom canvas print turns your photo into a piece that hangs as it is, without a frame. Your image is printed on cotton-polyester canvas (300–350 gsm) with a matte, glare-free finish, then stretched drum-tight over an FSC-certified wood stretcher frame and stapled at the back, so the front and the sides stay clean.

The image wraps around the sides of the frame, so the piece looks finished from every angle. Choose the depth: Slim is 2 cm deep and sits close to the wall for a clean, understated look; Thick is 4 cm deep and stands further off the wall, reading as a more substantial gallery canvas. The printing is the same on both, and every canvas comes with a hanging kit.

A framed canvas sets your Slim canvas print inside a solid wood float frame, poplar or pine, with a 9–14 mm face, about 42 mm deep in North America. A 12 mm gap between the canvas and the frame makes the canvas look as if it floats inside it, the way galleries frame canvas work.

Choose the frame in Natural Wood, Dark Brown or Black to match the room; all three cost the same. The frame arrives fully assembled with a hanging kit in the box, so it goes from box to wall in minutes.

Posters and canvases come in different sets of sizes, so the size menu changes with the style. Posters: 8×10, 11×14, 12×18, 16×20, 18×24, 20×30 and 24×36 in. Canvas prints and framed canvas: 8×10, 12×12, 12×16, 12×18, 16×20, 16×24, 18×24, 20×28, 24×32 and 24×36 in. Every piece can hang portrait or landscape.

As a guide: 8×10, 11×14 and 12×12 suit shelves, desks and gallery walls; 16×20 and 18×24 work above most furniture and in offices; 20×28, 20×30, 24×32 and 24×36 are statement pieces over a sofa or a bed. If you're torn between two sizes, take the larger one; wall art almost always looks better slightly bigger than you first picture it.

• Above a sofa: hang it about 20–25 cm (8–10″) above the sofa back. A piece looks balanced at around two-thirds of the sofa's width, so go big, or hang two side by side.
• Above a bed: center it over the headboard with about a hand's width of wall in between; a larger size fills the space over a queen or king bed.
• Office and desk: keep the bottom edge clear of your monitor and the center near eye level when you're seated.
• Shelf and gallery wall: small sizes lean on a shelf or group into a gallery wall; keep 5–8 cm (2–3″) between frames.

Most custom wall art starts with a photo: a family portrait for the hallway, a wedding photo on canvas for the bedroom, the dog on the sofa, a city or a beach from a trip, a newborn's first picture for the nursery, or a group photo as a gift for a birthday, an anniversary or a new home. A canvas print or a framed canvas makes a gift that arrives ready to hang.

It isn't only photos. Artists put their own paintings and illustrations on canvas, gamers and fans hang posters of their favourite game or anime art in the game room, and businesses print their logo, their story or their product photos for an office, a shop or a waiting room.

• Upload your image. Drop a PNG, JPG or WebP file (up to 40 MB) into the upload box, or browse for it, and turn it portrait or landscape to suit the picture.
• Choose the size. The size menu shows every size in inches and centimetres, and the size guide shows each one to scale above a sofa, a bed, a desk or a shelf.
• Choose the style: Print Only (a poster), Canvas or Framed Canvas. For a canvas, pick Slim or Thick; for a framed canvas, pick the frame colour. If a size isn't made in that style, the nearest one is picked for you.
• Place it, then check it in 3D, and on your phone hang it on your own wall in AR at its real size.
• Add it to your cart. If your image needs it, we sharpen it up for print and email you a proof to approve before printing.

Start from the largest version of your image you have. For a sharp print, aim for about 150 DPI at the size you choose: around 1,200 × 1,500 pixels for 8×10, 2,400 × 3,000 for 16×20, 2,700 × 3,600 for 18×24 and 3,600 × 5,400 for 24×36. The print check under your upload measures your file against the size and shows it as soft, good or sharp.

Match the shape of the photo to the shape of the size, so less is cropped: a 3:4 phone photo suits 12×16, 18×24 and 24×32; a 2:3 camera photo suits 12×18, 16×24, 20×30 and 24×36; a 4:5 photo suits 8×10 and 16×20. On a canvas, the edge of the image wraps around the sides, so keep faces and text a little in from the edges. A smaller image isn't a dead end: if your file is low resolution, we sharpen it up for print and email you a proof before anything is printed.

Canvas prints and framed canvas come with a hanging kit in the box, so all you need is a nail or a hook in the wall (the exact hardware varies by the production country). Posters ship without hardware, ready for a frame of your choice.

Hang your piece out of direct sunlight to keep the colours bright, and dust it now and then with a soft, dry cloth; avoid water and cleaning sprays on paper and canvas.
