Custom Rugs – Your Image on Velvet, in Any Size

A custom rug is a rug made from an image you choose instead of a ready-made design. Here that means your photo, your artwork, your company or team logo, a character you drew or a pattern you made, printed onto a soft velvet rug in the shape and size you pick. Every rug on this page is made to order, one at a time, from the file you upload.

Our custom area rugs are printed, not tufted. The image is printed into the velvet fibres with UV-resistant inks, so a printed rug carries what's hard to do in yarn: a family photo, a soft gradient, fine line art or a detailed logo with small text, in full colour, edge to edge. It feels like a velvet rug underfoot and looks like your picture from across the room.

You don't send a sketch and wait for a mock-up. You place your image yourself, choose the shape, size and level, and see the finished rug in 3D and in AR on your own floor at its real size before anything is made. Ready-made designs are in our area rugs; this page is for rugs made from your own image.

The shape is the first choice in the builder, because it decides which sizes you can pick. When you upload an image, the builder suggests the shape it suits: a long, narrow image as a runner, a nearly square one as a square, a logo or character on a see-through background as a custom cut, and the rest as a rectangle. Round is always your choice, and every shape is one tap away.

• Rectangle: the classic area rug, in seven US sizes, 2×3, 3×4, 3×5, 4×6, 5×7, 5×8 and 6×9 ft. Best for photos, landscapes and most living rooms and bedrooms.
• Square: thirteen sizes from 2′ to 5′11″ (60 to 180 cm), every 10 cm. Good for square rooms, play corners, under a square table, or a logo that's as tall as it is wide.
• Round: thirteen diameters from 2′ to 5′11″ (60 to 180 cm), every 10 cm. Made for round tables, reading nooks, under a chair, and circular badges, emblems and logos.
• Runner: 2×6, 2×8, 2×10, 3×8 and 3×10 ft, long and narrow for hallways, kitchens, beside a bed or along a counter. Panoramas and long designs look their best here.
• Custom cut: the rug is cut along the outline of your design, so a character, a mascot or a logo becomes the rug's shape. It's cut from a square from 2′ to 5′11″ and needs a PNG with a see-through background; it costs the same as that square plus $15 for the hand cut.

When none of our sizes fits the space, switch to Custom size and type your own: any width from 2′ to 5′11″ (60 to 180 cm) and any length up to 10′ (305 cm), to the millimetre. Squares, rounds and custom cuts take one measurement, so they stay square or round. The builder shows your rug drawn to scale with its size in feet and inches and in centimetres.

A custom size is priced by the fabric it's cut from. Velvet comes on rolls 80, 100, 120, 160 and 180 cm wide, so a rug is priced on the next roll width up, and anything under 0.8 m² counts as 0.8 m². When the roll leaves room to spare, the builder offers the biggest rug that costs the same, so the extra fabric becomes rug instead of offcut.

A custom logo rug puts your brand on the floor: at the front of a shop or a salon, by the reception desk, in an office, a barbershop, a gym, a studio, a stage or a booth at an event. Because the logo is printed rather than tufted, it keeps its exact colours, gradients and fine detail, including small text, and nothing has to be simplified for yarn.

For a logo, upload the highest-resolution version you have, ideally a PNG or a large JPG, and pick the shape that fits it. A round rug suits a circular badge or seal, a rectangle or runner suits a wide wordmark, and a custom cut follows the outline of the logo itself when the file has a see-through background. Keep the logo and any text at least 1.5 cm (0.6″) in from the edge, and check it in the 3D preview before ordering.

Choose Standard for busy floors: its faux leather backing grips the floor, wipes clean and lies flat, and at 5 mm it clears most doors, which makes it a good logo mat just inside an entrance. For a larger order for a team, a chain of stores or an event, get in touch with us first.

At home, a custom rug turns an image you love into the room's centrepiece: a photo of your family or your pet in the living room, a favourite artwork in the bedroom, a map, a name or a cartoon in a kids' room, a soft play mat in a nursery. Gamers use them under the desk and chair or in front of the screen with art from their favourite game or anime, and fans put their team's crest in the den.

Custom rugs also make a personal gift for a new home, a wedding, a birthday or a new baby, because nobody else has the same one. Pick a size from the room guide in the builder, which shows each size drawn to scale in a living room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen, hallway, entryway, office, kids' room, nursery, game room and dorm.

Both levels are printed the same way and are machine washable, pet-friendly and safe for your floors. The difference is how they feel and what's underneath.

• Standard: crushed velvet with a soft sheen, 5 mm, on a non-slip faux leather backing that's water-resistant and wipes clean. It grips hard floors, stays flat under a rolling desk or gaming chair, clears doors, and its anti-static surface keeps dust and pet hair from clinging. About 500 g per m².
• Premium: deep plush velvet, 7 mm, on a flexible bamboo and cotton backing. It's warmer and more cushioned underfoot and insulates cold tile or wood floors, which makes it the comfort pick for living rooms, bedrooms and kids' rooms. About 700 g per m². It isn't made for rolling chairs.

The right rug size depends on the room and on what should stand on the rug. Measure the space with a tape measure, mark the corners with tape if it helps, and compare it with these common placements, all in sizes we make:

• Living room: center the rug on the coffee table. A 6×9 is big enough for the sofa's front legs to rest on it in a smaller seating area; a 5×7 or 5×8 sits just in front of the sofa.
• Queen bed (60″ wide): turned across the bed, a 6×9 runs under its lower part with about 2 ft of rug on each side to step onto.
• King bed (76″ wide): a 6×9 turned across it leaves about 16″ on each side; a pair of runners, one on each side of the bed, is the other way to do it.
• Dining room: measure the table and add about 24″ (60 cm) on every side, so the chairs stay on the rug when they're pulled out. Round tables look best on a round or square rug.
• Hallway: leave 4–6″ (10–15 cm) of floor along each side and at the ends, and pick the longest runner that still stops short of the doors.
• Desk and gaming chair: pick a size that reaches under the desk and leaves room to roll back, so the chair never drops off the edge, in Standard.
• Entryway: leave a little floor on each side and keep the rug clear of the door's swing; the room guide suggests 2×3 to 3×5 ft, or a 3′11″ (120 cm) square.

Designing your own rug here takes a few minutes, and nothing is printed until you order.

• Upload your image. Drop a PNG, JPG or WebP file (up to 40 MB) into the upload box, or browse for it. The builder checks how sharp it will print and which shape it suits.
• Choose the shape: rectangle, square, round, runner or custom cut.
• Choose the size. Pick one of our sizes, use the room guide to see each one drawn to scale, or switch to Custom size and enter your own measurements.
• Choose the level: Standard crushed velvet or Premium plush velvet.
• Place your image and check the result in 3D, then on your phone in AR, at its real size on your own floor.
• Add it to your cart. If your image needs it, we sharpen it up for print and email you a proof to approve before printing.

Start from the largest version of your image you have. For a sharp print at full size, aim for about 150 DPI, which for a 4×6 ft rug is around 7,000 × 10,600 pixels; the print check under your upload measures your file against the size you chose and shows it as soft, good or sharp.

A smaller image isn't a dead end. If your file is low resolution, we sharpen it up for print and email you a proof to approve before anything is printed. Keep faces, names and text at least 1.5 cm (0.6″) in from every edge, and for a custom cut, use a PNG with a transparent background so the outline is clean.

Both levels are machine washable, so a spill or a muddy paw isn't the end of the rug. Between washes, vacuum it on a low setting and shake it out now and then; on Standard, the anti-static velvet means dust and pet hair don't cling, so a quick vacuum keeps it looking new. The print is in the fibres rather than on top, so it holds its colour through washing and sunlight.

To keep a rug from sliding, choose Standard for hard floors: its faux leather backing grips wood, tile and laminate and keeps the rug flat, even under a rolling chair. Premium's soft bamboo and cotton backing is made for comfort; on a smooth floor, a rug pad underneath keeps it in place.
