About this design
Four seasonal panels meet at a jeweled floral medallion on this chinoiserie mahjong mat: pink cherry blossom, summer lotus, autumn chrysanthemum and snowy winter plum, each with its own perched bird. Gold cloud scrolls thread between them. A pale border of blossom and fretwork frames the whole four-seasons design.
The layout does something nice on a set table. Racks land inside the seasonal quarters, so the birds frame each player's spot rather than hide under the tiles. Guests pick a favorite season before the first wall.
Drawn in a refined chinoiserie style, each panel pairs a season's flower with a songbird over its own colored ground, joined by a central jeweled rosette and gold cloud borders. Ornament gathers at the panel edges and center; the mid-field of each quarter stays clear for play.
